Smiling for the cameras, Naomi Campbell glided along a sidewalk shortly after allegedly bashing a crystal-encrusted BlackBerry against the head of her housekeeper.

"You f------ b----!" the cantankerous catwalker shrieked yesterday inside her Park Ave. penthouse apartment, accusing her maid, Ana Scolavino, of stealing a pair of $200 Chip & Pepper jeans, sources said.

Raging, Campbell cracked the BlackBerry against her housekeeper's head at 8 a.m. - and then demanded her staff tell cops the 42-year-old maid had hurt herself falling, sources said.

But the sinewy supermodel's servant alerted officials at Lenox Hill Hospital, and soon cops arrived at Campbell's $3.5 million apartment to haul her away.

Campbell, 35, insisted she had no idea what cops were talking about and showed them a flip-phone, not the BlackBerry, as supposed proof, sources said.

But the cops cuffed her - disappointing an Oprah Winfrey camera crew waiting to film her for a cooking segment.

Ever the diva, Campbell hid the handcuffs under a white fur poncho. Sources said she also asked to ride in her own car to the police stationhouse and then paused as her minions begged cops to let them fix her bangs before she was escorted outside. The requests were denied.

"\[She\] told her people to lie, to say the maid tripped and hit her head," a police source said. "Her staff is afraid of her - afraid she'll go off on them and they'll lose her paycheck."

Campbell - who has a history of allegedly beating and head-butting her help - was questioned for hours at the Manhattan North Precinct stationhouse.

Flanked by cops, she emerged at 4 p.m. in the same flowing poncho, black suede boots, dark sunglasses and baseball cap.

The perp-walk-turned-runway-shoot was captured by more than 100 photographers who had gathered to see the former Sports Illustrated swimsuit model.

A source said the BlackBerry used in the attack was encased in a Swarovski crystal holder that featured several baubles. The BlackBerry was not recovered.

Campbell called the allegation that she attacked her housekeeper "completely untrue." "She is sadly mistaken if she thinks she can extract money from me by concocting lies by recycling old stories," the supermodel said in a statement. "I have asked my lawyer to look into filing both theft and extortion charges against her."

Campbell said she had questioned the housekeeper about missing items and fired her "for that and her erratic behavior."

Campbell was charged with assault and could face up to seven years in prison if convicted. During a brief court appearance last night, a judge denied the prosecution's request for $3,500 bail.

Judge Richard Weinberg issued an order of protection against Campbell and released her on her own recognizance. He also allowed her to keep her passport so she could leave today on a scheduled charity trip to South Africa with Nelson Mandela.

"Surrendering her passport would not only be unfair to her but unfair to the children of South Africa," her lawyer, David Breitbart, said.

Scolavino, of Brooklyn, got four stitches to close a gash on her head. Meanwhile, Campbell's ex-assistant, Amie Castaldo, 33, scoffed at the model's denials - saying she was attacked by Campbell in 2004. "She abuses people," Castaldo said. "Somebody has to stop her."

Stars such as Pink and Britney Spears have been named in the race to take the role of blues singer Janice Joplin in a new biopic.

Director Penelope Spheeris has already met with Pink, Lindsay Lohan and Zooey Deschanel in connection with The Gospel According to Janis, and is hoping to further meet with Scarlett Johansson.

Spheeris is quoted as saying: ""[Pink] would be my first choice, but she may have scheduling conflicts."

A spokesperson for Pink confirmed that "she would do just about anything to be part of that project!"

"It's weird, but it's also fun. I'm really enjoying it," Rihanna told MTV News of her cameo role in the third and latest installment of "Bring It On," tentatively titled "Bring It On Yet Again." In the sassy cheerleading/dance flick, which is currently filming in downtown Los Angeles, a pair of rival squads compete for a chance to appear in Rihanna's upcoming television special. It stars Beyoncé's sister Solange Knowles ("Johnson Family Vacation," "The Proud Family") and Hayden Panettiere ("Ice Princess," "Raising Helen").

In addition to her brief acting role, the 17-year-old singer will also do a special musical performance for the film, though there's no word yet on which song she'll sing. The short-lived CBS series "Love Monkey" has found new life on VH1. At least temporarily.

The cable channel will air all eight hourlong episodes of the show beginning next month, a network spokeswoman said Wednesday.

No new episodes have been ordered.

The dramatic comedy, which looks at life and love through the eyes of a cynical, single, 30-something music scout, premiered on CBS in January. The network ordered eight episodes, but the series was scrapped after three.

VH1 will air the three previously seen shows back-to-back on April 11, starting at 7 p.m. EDT. The remaining five installments will air weekly on Tuesdays at 9 p.m. beginning April 18.

"Love Monkey," based on Kyle Smith's 2004 book of the same name, stars Tom Cavanagh as protagonist Tom Farrell. Jason Priestly, Larenz Tate and Christopher Wiehl also star.

Nicole Kidman will star in and produce an untitled spy thriller described as a female version of "The Bourne Identity."

Nicole Kidman and writer Simon Kinberg are teaming on a spy thriller that was pre-emptively picked up by Regency Enterprises and 20th Century Fox, the firms behind Kinberg's "Mr. & Mrs. Smith."

Kinberg will write the untitled project, while Kidman will star and produce via Fox-based Blueprint Films. Laurence Mark also is on board to produce with Jonathan King.

Story line details are being kept under wraps, but the film is described as being in the vein of "The Bourne Identity" but with a female protagonist.

The project provides an opportunity for Kidman and Kinberg to finally work together. Kidman originally was attached to co-star alongside Brad Pitt in the Regency hit "Mr. & Mrs. Smith," which Kinberg wrote. She dropped out because of scheduling conflicts, paving the way for Angelina Jolie to topline.

Kidman, last in theaters with "Bewitched," recently wrapped "The Visiting," a horror-thriller also starring Daniel Craig, the new James Bond. Kinberg, one of the town's most in-demand writers, wrote Fox's upcoming "X-Men: The Last Stand."

A stuntman wearing the wrong shoes kicked Jackie Chan in the chest, sending the action star to the hospital for a checkup earlier this month.

"These things just happen," Chan said Tuesday. "I always put safety first when filming, but still, sometimes things just go wrong. It was just an ordinary accident. The stuntman working with me had on the wrong shoes and I got hurt."

The 51-year-old actor was injured while shooting the action-comedy "Rob-B-Hood" in Hong Kong.

The injury was painful but doctors said Chan was in "good shape." He continued to feel pain for several days after the March 23 accident, but he is improving, according to the Web site.

Simon Cowell is launching a new talent show on US TV, which sees contestants compete for a $1 million prize.
Cowell, best known to US audiences for his role as a judge on American Idol, said the NBC show, entitled America's Got Talent, would be "open to anybody".

"You can be 2 years old, 100 years old. You can be the next Destiny's Child, the next Jackson 5 or you can be the next David Copperfield," said Cowell.

The TV producer announced plans to make a similar show for ITV last year.

At the time, Cowell said the UK show would resemble the 1970s US programme The Gong Show. Last December ITV said it was "in discussions" regarding a future series.

'A-list' celebrities

Auditions for America's Got Talent will begin next month in cities including Los Angeles, New York and Atlanta. No date for transmission has been given.

Cowell, whose company Syco produced hit British talent contest The X Factor, will not be appearing as a judge on the new show but said he had lined up some "A-list" celebrities.

Participants will learn who makes the shortlist at auditions held across the US, followed by further "brutal" dismissals at the semi-finals stage in Los Angeles, said Cowell.

He dismissed speculation that the show would bear any resemblance to The Entertainer, which ran on E! television in the US last year. "I hated it," he said.

It is not Cowell's first venture into US TV production. The entertainment mogul is currently producing American Inventor for the ABC network.

Kerry Katona has spoken about a health scare that she feared meant she would have no more children.

The shock came when the singer had to be rushed to hospital with suspected kidney stones that turned out to be a cyst on her ovaries.
