The glitzy awards show, which will host the best in musical talent, is taking place at the Radio City Music Hall in August.

The Killers headline Ultra Music Fest

by lawsonjeff @ 2006-03-22 - 17:56:03

It's no surprise that this year's Ultra Music Festival will have superstar DJs unleashing electronic beats from their computers and turntables for gyrating dancers. But the Killers? A rock band headlining a dance-music festival?

A lineup usually dominated by electronic artists such as Paul van Dyk and Paul Oakenfold now includes what organizers call "alternative bands with dance culture influences," such as the Killers, co-headliner the Prodigy and Canadian synthesizer-based combo Hot Hot Heat.

As indie rock crosses over into dance music, Ultra is evolving to embrace those artists and their fans, said Russell Faibisch, who co-founded the festival that takes over Miami's Bicentennial Park on March 25.

Farrell shocks film crew with sobriety

by lawsonjeff @ 2006-03-22 - 16:27:36

Colin Farrell has stunned the crew of his latest movie — by not partying every night.

The Irish-born actor has given up booze sources say.

Farrell, 29, dubbed the Lusty Leprechaun by the US press, checked into rehab last December.

Accroding to insiders, he has stopped hitting the bottle so hard as he mocked his hard-partying reputation by hammering on the door of a strip joint in the middle day, demanding to get in hours before it opened.

While shooting one scene in New York, he had the set in stitches.

An insider told the New York Post: "He cracked up the crew when he walked to the entrance of Scores strip club, pretended to bang on the door and yelled, 'Let me in.'

"The club doesn't open until 7 pm."

Pride And Glory is a gritty drama about corrupt cops in New York. It tells the tale of a family whose lives revolve around the NYPD and a dark underworld of gangs and criminals.

Dad-of-one Farrell stars as an investigator hired to solve a series of murders in the city.

Ed Norton, Jon Voight and Kevin Zegers also star in the crime flick, set to hit screens next year.

The star hit headlines as he was pictured on a string of boozy nights out last summer as he filmed the big screen version of hit TV show Miami Vice in Florida.

Prince Sued For Redecorating Rented Home

by lawsonjeff @ 2006-03-22 - 15:39:32

Claiming that his $70,000-a-month tenant Prince undertook an extremely tacky makeover of his Los Angeles mansion, an NBA star recently sued the mercurial singer over the purple-hued alterations. In a January complaint, Carlos Boozer, a forward with the Utah Jazz, sued Prince/MPG Music over unauthorized work done on the 10-bedroom, 11-bath West Hollywood property, which is owned by the C Booz Multifamily I LLC. According to the lawsuit, Prince/MPG Music violated its eight-month lease by "painting the exterior of the [house] with purple striping, 'prince' symbol, and numbers 3121." Prince's new album, "3121," is scheduled for release tomorrow.

Constantine Breaks with Band

by lawsonjeff @ 2006-03-22 - 15:37:51

Former American Idol favorite Constantine Maroulis has split from his band, Pray for the Soul of Betty, the singer says.

"We've been through so much together, from Rent to American Idol," says Maroulis. "With all of my solo projects speeding up, we just felt it was time to move on."

Maroulis, 30, has started work on a solo album and has a development deal to star in an ABC sitcom.

Before he leapt to fame on Idol last year, the singer toured with Rent in 2003 and fronted hard-rockers Pray for the Soul of Betty.

His turn on the reality competition boosted the group's profile and led to increased sales of their self-titled CD, though not enough to make them multi-platinum-selling stars.

Maroulis, who finished sixth on Idol, told said last year that not winning the competition was the "best thing that's ever happened to me. I'm not cursed with that stigma of being the American Idol."

O'Grady mistook Orlando Bloom for former conquest

by lawsonjeff @ 2006-03-22 - 15:35:30

Paul O'Grady was left confused when accosted by Orlando Bloom at a recent showbiz event.

The chatshow host admitted to mistaking the floppy-haired Pirates of the Caribbean star for a previous conquest.

"I didn't know who he was because he looked like a bit of a hippy," O'Grady explained. "He was chatting away to me and I was like, 'Who the hell's this? Have I slept with you or something? Did I shag you years ago?'"

After realising his mistake, O'Grady was suprised to learn that Bloom was an avid viewer of his show. "He said he never missed my show," he recalled. "It fascinates me because I think it's only my Auntie Iris who watches it."

O'Grady's new show begins on Channel 4 next Monday (March 27).

Joan Rivers looking for love

by lawsonjeff @ 2006-03-22 - 15:34:04

Joan Rivers is looking for love in cyberspace. So far, no luck. The 72-year-old red-carpet critic and comedian said she and assistant Matt Stewart created a profile for her on Match.

"We were hoping to meet Mr. Right," Rivers told The Associated Press in a recent interview. "We didn't even get a wink."

"Maybe there is somebody sitting out there in the east side of New York," she said.

The profile lists Rivers as looking for a man between the ages of 65 and 75.

Rivers doesn't want to get married again, though. The former talk show host was married to British producer Edgar Rosenberg, who committed suicide in 1987.

As far as children go, Rivers already has one, daughter Melissa, as well as a 5-year-old grandson, Edgar.

Her Match profile answer under the children section says "probably not."

"Not right now, but I got two eggs in the refrigerator," she quipped. "I should have written, 'not right now unless it is very, very important to you'."

Of course any man in Rivers' life would have to work around her busy schedule. Rivers will be performing her standup act in Tunica, Miss., on Saturday and will be touring Australia in April.

Morrissey Apologises To Arctic Monkeys

by lawsonjeff @ 2006-03-22 - 15:32:20

Morrissey has apologised to the Arctic Monkeys if his recent comments about them caused offence.

The singer was quoted criticising the band's rapid success while at the South By South West festival last week (March 15), suggesting it was too soon and "a bit unnatural".

However Morrissey has issued a further statement to NME, explaining he was not criticising the Sheffield newcomers.

"I'm sorry that the comments I made at SouthBySouthWest about the Arctic Monkeys were printed so harshly in The Times and the NME," states Morrissey.

"I actually quite like the Arctic Monkeys and whatever I said was said with tender, avuncular concern. I hope to God I didn't upset their grannies," he added.

"In any case, I was wrong about their success being too sudden and without any dues paid, because that's exactly how it happened for The Smiths. So, I really should shut it."

Stone: I Have No Problem Doing Nude Scene

by lawsonjeff @ 2006-03-22 - 15:27:42

Sharon Stone, who returns as the seductive Catherine Tramell in "Basic Instinct 2," says she has no problem doing a nude scene — if it's right for the role.

"It's pretty easy for me to be naked," the 48-year-old actress said Wednesday. "I'm a person who feels that if it's appropriate for the character I'm playing or the mood of the piece, then it's no big thing."

Stone is famously known for her "leg crossing" scene in 1992's "Basic Instinct," which also starred Michael Douglas.

The actress said she wouldn't object to her children seeing the movies — but added that it's not going to be anytime soon.

"When they're old enough to see that kind of material, then they're old enough to see that kind of material," said Stone, who has two young sons.

Stone, who was nominated for a best actress Oscar for 1995's "Casino," said she was happy that she didn't try to lie about her age to get roles after she turned 40. "You have to give them you until you is what they want," she said.

"Basic Instinct 2" will be released later this month. Stone was in Berlin to promote the movie.

Nick’s Revenge Video

by lawsonjeff @ 2006-03-22 - 15:26:35

Nick Lachey is taking career cues from Justin Timberlake. The fellow ex boy-bander responded to his breakup with Britney Spears in his video for the song “Cry Me a River.” Now, sources say, Lachey, 32, is dramatizing the dissolution of his marriage to Jessica Simpson in the video for his new single, “What’s Left of Me.”

“The video is obviously about him and Jessica,” a close source tells US TODAY. In the video, with MTV VJ Vanessa Minnillo standing in for Simpson, Lachey sings in a house quite similar to the Calabasas, California, home they shared during the three seasons of Newlyweds: Nick & Jessica. Lachey watches as the objects of their life together gradually disappear around him. In the end, even Minnillo has vanished into the shadows. “The song is all about changes,” Minnillo, 25, host of Total Request Live, tells US TODAY. “Nick is so strong. He’s really putting himself out there as a musician.”

The video, which began shooting yesterday in West London, continues shooting today in the US and is expected to start airing in late April.

Christina feels pregnant

by lawsonjeff @ 2006-03-22 - 08:39:25

Christina Aguilera, 25, attended LA Fashion Week's Agent Provocateur UK-based lingerie show yesterday with husband-of- four-months Jordan Bratman. Carmen Electra, Cher, Courtney Love and Kim Stewart were also in attendance (pictured after the jump). Christina Aguilera recently talked about her upcoming album "Back to Basics" saying, "I feel like I've been pregnant for 18 months - it's been tough. We dived headfirst into a 20s and 30s vibe. We have a song that sounds like you've just walked into a 20s burlesque club. There's a lot of stuff that people haven't heard from me before. On one song, I'm just above the mike. There's no reverb and no effects. No gimmicks at all - nothing. The album has a throwback style using horn samples so it sounds gritty and old. But we've been able to splice it into something that people can still dance to in the clubs."

Reese and Ryan on the Rocks?

by lawsonjeff @ 2006-03-22 - 08:31:13

Reese Witherspoon wants another baby to save her marriage.

Witherspoon has been open that her marriage to Ryan Phillippe has not always been smooth sailing over the years.

The couple has seen a marriage counselor to try and patch up their differences. Phillippe once said, "The biggest mistake is not doing therapy, ignoring it, and having the marriage fall apart because of laziness.

Sources say Reese has expressed concern lately over Ryan's partying -- partying without her. And, we're told, Reese believes children help cement relationships.

Hollywood is littered with young celebrities who marry, and then one shoots to superstardom, leaving the other in the dust. Reese's meteoric rise to command $29 million per movie has taken its toll. Sources around town, especially in Malibu, say that Ryan does some serious flirting.

A photographer snapped a shot of Phillippe with an extra during a break from the set of Clint Eastwood's 'Flags of Our Fathers,' which is shooting now. We're told the photos upset Reese.

Reese is not looking for a blockbuster starring role to follow her Oscar-winning performance in 'Walk the Line.' Instead, she's looking at supporting roles, which would allow her to spend more time with her family. She's currently playing second seat to Christina Ricci in the indie fairytale, 'Penelope,' which is currently filming in London.

More to the point, Phillippe is undeniably a good father to their two children, Ava, 6, and Deacon, 2. Reese has privately confided in friends that expanding her family is more important to her than a career.

Aerosmith's Steven Tyler to Undergo Surgery

by lawsonjeff @ 2006-03-22 - 07:42:56

Aerosmith singer Steven Tyler will undergo surgery this week for an undisclosed medical condition, forcing the band to cancel the remaining dates of its North American tour.

The band's publicist, Marcee Rondan, said Tuesday that Tyler was "doing fine" but declined to elaborate on his condition.

"Despite Aerosmith's desire to keep the tour going as long as possible, Tyler's doctors advised him not to continue performing to give his voice time to recover," Rondan said in a statement.

Tyler, who turns 58 on Sunday, can't perform for an extended period of time, Rondan said, adding the band was on hiatus.

Aerosmith canceled recent concerts in Manchester, N.H., Pensacola, Fla., and Lexington, Ky., because of illness, though the tour press director did not disclose who was sick or the nature of the illness.
