by lawsonjeff @ 2006-03-25 - 16:51:11

Nadine Coyle may be about to leave Girls Aloud as she fancy starting a solo singing career.

The band came together in 2002 and have had several massive hits including Sound of the Underground and Love Machine.

Star Wars fans prepared to be thrilled

by lawsonjeff @ 2006-03-25 - 16:31:12

The Force is getting a whole new lease of life in the shape of a brand new TV series.

Star Wars creator George Lucas has agreed to make 100 episodes, covering the years between prequel Episode III: Revenge Of The Sith and the first 1977 Star Wars movie.

Series producer Rick McCullum revealed:

"We're very excited - we just got confirmation George Lucas has committed himself to writing the Star Wars TV series.

"I guess this is the news all fans have been waiting to hear. But will any familiar faces be popping up in the TV shows?

None of the films' actors, from Ewan McGregor to Carrie Fisher, will be taking part. But Anthony Daniels, who played C3P0 will appear.

Rick added: "It will all be new because the originals will all be too old. But we will be using
Anthony as C3PO because there is such a thing as loyalty."

George waited nearly 20 years before making the prequel films which star Hayden Christensen and Natalie Portman. In the last prequel we saw Anakin Skywalker go to the dark side to become Darth Vader and the TV series will concentrate on the rise of his evil empire. What we can't tell you though is which side the series will be on...Looks like there'll be another kind of war to decide that.

CAVALLI GUILTY OF TAX FRAUD

by lawsonjeff @ 2006-03-25 - 16:00:57

Leading fashion designer ROBERTO CAVALLI has been sentenced to 14 months in jail for tax evasion. Cavalli, who is close friends with MADONNA and VICTORIA BECKHAM, was prosecuted after writing off $2.7 million (GBP1.5 million) in improvements to his Florence, Italy, villa as business expenses. The 65-year-old fashion heavyweight insists his palatial home is his studio and showroom and is appealing for the verdict to be reviewed. Cavalli's lawyer ALESSANDRO TRAVERSI told the court, "It was fully borne out that the expenses in question were inherent to the work of the business, inasmuch as the designer's abode was an integral part of his company activity, besides being the prestigious showroom of the company, the place where events are held, photographic shoots conducted etcetera." As a first-time offender, Cavalli's prison sentence has been suspended.

Introducing Channing Tatum

by lawsonjeff @ 2006-03-25 - 14:47:09

channing-tatum-interview-magazine

One of the few discoveries at this year's Sundance Film Festival was a dark, chiseled one delivered in the form of Channing Tatum, who co-stars alongside Robert Downey Jr., Chazz Palminteri, Dianne Wiest, and Shia LaBeouf in the award-winning competition drama A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints. Based on writer-director Dito Montiel's 2003 autobiographical book of the same name, the film chronicles the tragic events of the last summer that Montiel (played by LaBeouf in his younger incarnation and by Downey Jr. as an adult) spent in his native Astoria, Queens— which, in the mid-1980s theater of street violence wherein much of the movie's action occurs, was a place many residents either clung to with a religious fervor or longed to escape with reckless abandon. Tatum's performance as Montiel's childhood friend, agitator, and protector Antonio is a scab-encrusted, bare-chested, short-fused revelation. The timing couldn't have been better for the 26-year-old Alabama-born, Florida-bred actor, who had previously tried his hand at construction, real-estate brokering, and modeling. He just wrapped production on an as-yet-untitled film about a juvenile delinquent, who finds himself through dancing, and also appears in the new comedy She's the Man, a modern remake of William Shakespeare's Twelfth Night starring Amanda Bynes.

SHIA LABEOUF :: You're blowin up right now, son. You've got some projects in the can already that are pretty good quality.
CHANNING TATUM :: Yeah, they kind of jump around everywhere, man. They go from beating up people on the streets of Astoria to dancing to Shakespeare.
SL :: Tell me about the Shakespeare thing.
CT :: It's basically a remake of Twelfth Night. It's a teen type of comedy. Amanda Bynes is hysterical. She's just got her own cute little charisma, and she's got a huge following. In order to play soccer at school, Amanda's character impersonates a guy. I don't know if you know Twelfth Night at all, but I play Orsino. It's pretty funny.
SL :: Are you trying to do something that nobody's done, or do you have a plan?
CT ::Nah. I don't even have a stance on what I think people have done or on what I would try to do differently.
SL :: Well, you've got to make some stuff up because people are going to ask you that, so you've got to have something interesting to say. I mean, to play a character like Antonio [in A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints] is such a rare opportunity.
CT :: He was supernatural.
SL :: I feel like you have the hardest job in the movie, just because of what came with playing him. When we would walk around the neighborhood in Astoria and talk to people, it was like Antonio was so popular. Everyone knew who he was.
CT :: It was nerve-racking a little bit, to meet his brother and his sister. But I always said that I wasn't really trying to be Antonio. I was just trying to be a guy who could have a relationship with your character like the friendship he and Dito had. We took these real people and we had to make them real onscreen. That was our biggest challenge.
SL :: Well, you must have some issues, because I don't know where else Antonio came from. [Tatum laughs] Your parents are still married, right?
CT :: Yeah, they're still married.
SL :: So, it's not that.
CT :: No, I mean, everybody's got their own problems. A lot of Antonio's anger was definitely pulled from back in the day.
SL :: It's pretty nuts, dude. So who is the actor you would model yourself after?
CT ::: I love Paul Newman and Jackie Gleason.
SL :: You remind me of Mark Wahlberg.
CT :: I've always loved that guy—even when he was Marky Mark.

Jessica Simple-son Switches Labels

by lawsonjeff @ 2006-03-25 - 14:10:00

Jessica Simpson has shifted from Columbia, for which she's recorded since 1999, to Epic Records. As previously reported, the artist is working on the follow-up to 2003's "In This Skin," which has sold 2.9 million copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

The as-yet-untitled set is expected before the year's end, but in the meantime, a source says an R&B-oriented first single is "not far away at all." Among the producers contributing to the project are Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis, Cory Rooney and Scott Storch.

Simpson's move from Columbia to Epic, both of which fall under the Sony Music umbrella, mirrors that of new Epic president Charlie Walk, who formerly was executive VP of creative marketing and promotion for Columbia Records Group.

"I love all my friends and supporters at Columbia. I will miss them as I start this new relationship," Simpson tells Billboard. "Charlie Walk was my first hero at Columbia. He believed in me before I really even got to meet the rest of the company. I couldn't think of anyone I would trust more than Charlie to present my new music to the world. Epic is in a new place with a new leader. It just seems the right place for me as I begin my new journey."

All-star cast set for "March of Penguins"

by lawsonjeff @ 2006-03-25 - 14:07:24

Actor Samuel L. Jackson has signed on to narrate an upcoming spoof of the Oscar-winning documentary "March of the Penguins" with an all-star supporting voice cast, independent studio ThinkFilm said on Friday.

"Farce of the Penguins," mixing archival wildlife footage with an R-rated screenplay written and directed by comedian Bob Saget, is aimed for a late-summer theatrical release, ThinkFilm spokesman Alex Klenert said.

In press materials, ThinkFilm described "Farce of the Penguins" as the story of "one penguin's search for love while on a 70-mile (112-km) trek with his libidinous buddies on their way to a hedonistic mating ritual."

Saget will supply the voice of several characters, including the lovelorn penguin at the center of the story, with Tracy Morgan, Lewis Black and Mo'Nique as some of his pals.

Saget, who hosted the popular TV show "America's Funniest Home Videos" for several years after starring on family sitcom "Full House" from 1987 to 1995, also has rounded up a group of well-known friends for cameo voice roles in the film. They include Jason Alexander, James Belushi, Norm Crosby, Whoopi Goldberg, Gilbert Gottfried, Jon Lovitz, Norm Macdonald and Abe Vigoda.

Jackson, an Oscar nominee for his role in "Pulp Fiction," will narrate the picture, a takeoff on the French-made nature film that became worldwide box office hit and won the Oscar for best documentary.

The original film, narrated by actor Morgan Freeman for the U.S. release, chronicled the journeys of emperor penguins across the frozen wasteland of Antarctica to mate, lay their eggs and bear their young.

Saget said he got the idea for the film while watching the original "March of the Penguins" at a friend's house.

"I couldn't stop doing the voice-overs of the penguins, reminiscent of when I did those animal voices on that video show back in the day," he said.

Privately owned ThinkFilm also was a distributor behind the Oscar-nominated documentary "Murderball" and the film featuring Saget and other comics performing various renditions of the off-color "Aristocrats" joke.
