Walsh amazed at Westlife longevity

by lawsonjeff @ 2006-03-27 - 18:11:25

Louis Walsh says he is amazed his boyband Westlife are still together.

The manager expected the group to last only a couple of years. However, on the strength of their longevity Walsh is now looking to the future and organising an international tour this summer to strengthen the band's fanbase.

Walsh explained: "It should be all over for a boyband at this stage...but Westlife are getting bigger. They're going to be working even harder this year. They're set to record their eighth album after the tour and the aim is to break new territories like Canada where they'll be working in June."

by lawsonjeff @ 2006-03-27 - 18:01:45

James Blunt has found new love with Tara Palmer-Tomkinson.

The You're Beautiful singer apparently spent the night with the It Girl after she flew to see him in New York earlier this month.

A friend revealed, "Tara and James have been good friends for a while - but recently it has turned into something more."

Blunt's current relationship with Camilla Boler is rumoured to be in trouble as she can no longer cope with his constant travelling.

"Tara was absolutely thrilled when James suggested she should fly over to see him in New York," the source added. "It shows how much she means to him. She knows all about Camilla and his relationship with her - and she knows it's been going through a rocky patch.

"Of course, she finds that sad - but that's not her problem. Tara thinks James is incredible. He was so pleased to see her and they managed to find time for an intimate moment together."

A spokesperson insisted, "James and Tara are friends. Tara was in New York and did go to a gig but James is still very much with Camilla."

Keanu Reeves in hot water

by lawsonjeff @ 2006-03-27 - 17:36:50

Keanu Reeves has landed in hot water with an American domestic violence group after carelessly joking about how "some women" like rough sex in a magazine interview.

The Matrix star tells a men's magazine how difficult it was to perform a rape scene with Hilary Swank in The Gift, but, when asked if his roughness may have helped the actress get into character for boxing film Million Dollar Baby, he quips: "Yeah. And, by the way, I also learned a bit of… well, that some of the ladies don't mind it… Hah, that's awful to say."

The remark has upset officials at top American group Women Against Domestic Violence, who claim Reeves' flippant comment made them "literally ill."

Melissa Rimmel who runs the confidential online support group for survivors and current victims of domestic violence, fumes: "I cannot believe he would even think it was OK to say that.

"Why doesn't someone educate that man? I can see him saying that in passing and thinking it means nothing but, the thing is, so many women are sexually abused every day by their partners and, no, those women do not want that, nor do they like it."

Keira's 21st birthday party

by lawsonjeff @ 2006-03-27 - 17:32:46

It was Keira Knightley's 21st birthday party last night, and there was never any doubt who was going to be the belle of the ball.
She chose the Roaring Twenties as the theme, and emerged from her West London home having achieved the Flapper look to perfection.

Her normally-flowing hair was tightly curled and her glittering golden low-waisted gown was set off by a white furry stole. A passer-by said: 'Keira was absolutely glowing. She seemed pretty emotional, and a girlfriend gave her a massive hug as she came out of her home.'

Keira's boyfriend, the actor Rupert Friend, opted for a dark suit and black tie, with his long hair tucked under a matching trilby. The pair met while filming Pride and Prejudice last year, and have been an item since December.

The party was held at the nightclub Paper in central London. There were about 120 guests - although not all of them managed to achieve the 1920s look. One lady was dressed in a World War Two RAF uniform.

Davis says that Sex and the City forced her to binge

by lawsonjeff @ 2006-03-27 - 17:25:15

The 40-year-old actress thinks constant criticism and on-set competition left her yo-yo dieting and forced into punishing exercise regimes.

She explained: "Everyone would talk about their diets and working out and what it made me do was go to craft services - where all the food for the cast and crew was - and I would eat. (Then) I decided that I was going to be very tough and run seven miles, three times a week. I was killing myself. My ankles hurt, my knees hurt and I was working 18-hour days."

'Ocean's Thirteen' to Start Filming July 21st

by lawsonjeff @ 2006-03-27 - 17:22:12

Warner Bros. Pictures and producer Jerry Weintraub have set a July 21 start date for Ocean's Thirteen, and Ellen Barkin is the third film's new leading lady, reports Variety.

Filming will take place primarily on five soundstages on the Warner Bros. lot in Burbank, where a fully operational casino will be built.

The first "Ocean's" film was shot at the Bellagio in Las Vegas, the sequel in Europe, but it became too arduous to shoot a movie around the gambling traffic in a real casino, producer Jerry Weintraub told the trade. Director Steven Soderbergh and star George Clooney just used the WB soundstages to shoot The Good German, a European-set period drama.

Soderbergh has already committed to direct returning cast members George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Matt Damon, Andy Garcia, Don Cheadle, Bernie Mac, Casey Affleck, Scott Caan, Eddie Jemison, Shaobo Qin, Carl Reiner and Elliott Gould.

With Barkin in, that means previous female leads Julia Roberts and Catherine Zeta-Jones are sitting this one out. Barkin's character will get closely involved with Damon's character.

Warner Bros. will co-finance with Village Roadshow Pictures for a summer 2007 release. The film is a co-production between Jerry Weintraub Productions and Section Eight.

The film was scripted by Rounders screenwriters Brian Koppelman and David Levien.

Ocean's Eleven earned $450.7 million worldwide and Ocean's Twelve took in $362.7 million.

Sting and David Bowie to open burlesque club

by lawsonjeff @ 2006-03-27 - 17:19:31

Two rock legends - David Bowie and Sting - might team up to open a burlesque club in Manhattan, a British newspaper reported today.

Reps for the rockers confirmed they are in talks with nightclub owner Ivan Kane, whose venues include the burlesque Forty Deuce clubs in Hollywood and Las Vegas, the Daily Mail said. Kane has approached Bowie and Sting to collaborate on opening a Forty Deuce in Manhattan, although Chelsea - not Times Square - reportedly is the preferred location.

Kane told the Daily Mail that his Forty Deuce clubs "push the envelope in terms of sexuality, decadence and voyeurism."

The clubs riff on the campy burlesque scene of the 1920s and '30s and feature strippers but no nudity. As one Vegas entertainment Web site put it, Forty Deuce offers "the tease without the sleaze."

A source is quoted as saying: "Leonardo is besotted with Lindsay. "They wanted to keep it a secret just because it's more fun that way."

The pair hooked up at a party hosted by Lindsay in Miami.

Nine Inch Nails: Trent Reznor Slams Former Drummer

by lawsonjeff @ 2006-03-27 - 17:13:53

Nine Inch Nails mainman Trent Reznor has offered a scathing rebuttal to former Nails drummer Jerome Dillon's remarks made during Jerome's recent press junket for the debut album of his new band NearLy.

In a brand-new interview with MTV, Dillon said that he was still dealing with is what he described as his unexpected expulsion from NIN. While Dillon said Reznor was very supportive of the NearLy project -- at one point asking if he could help produce it or use some of the tracks as part of defunct goth-rock side project Tapeworm -- Dillon maintains that Reznor was nowhere to be found after he became ill during NIN's tour last year.

"It was absolutely the most stressful thing I've been through in my life," Dillon told MTV. "During the third leg of the tour, I noticed that I was not feeling good. A few years ago, I was diagnosed with a thyroid malady and I was taking medication for it. I didn't know that [the medication wasn't working] and was building up in my system on the road." The buildup caused a cardiac disorder that, while not life threatening, frightened Dillon enough to go to the hospital after a show in San Diego.

But, despite receiving a clean bill of health from the doctors there, a few NIN shows had already been canceled. After two days of tests that finally helped diagnose the problem, Dillon said he called NIN management to tell them he was ready to resume playing and was met with "complete apathy and no sympathy for what I'd been through," he told MTV. "I was not welcomed back with open arms, which I didn't understand, since I had been in the band for six years." Dillon said Reznor didn't call or contact him to see if he was OK and has not done so since.
