Melanie Griffith sued

by lawsonjeff @ 2006-04-11 - 16:19:52

A designer sued Melanie Griffith for allegedly refusing to pay nearly $26,000 for dressing the actress and her daughters for the Golden Globes Awards and reneging on a promise to mention his name on the red carpet.

In the lawsuit filed Friday in Los Angeles Superior Court, Niklas J. Palm claimed he designed dresses for Griffith and her daughters Dakota Johnson and Stella Banderas to wear to the January event.

Palm said he submitted a $25,960 bill Jan. 16 and Griffith was overdue in making any payments. He also claimed Griffith and her daughters backed out of their promise to mention his name to reporters.

Griffith promised "that he will receive publicity that money could not buy, then conveniently forgot his name when reporters on the red carpet specifically asked who designed her beautiful gown -- taking credit for the gown herself," the lawsuit said.

Calls made after business hours Friday to Griffith's attorney and publicist were not immediately returned.

The lawsuit claimed breach of oral and written contract and intentional misrepresentation. It also names Griffith's husband, Antonio Banderas and their production companies as defendants.

Palm was part of a costume design team that won a 2004 Emmy award for their work on the HBO series "Carnivale." The lawsuit said he met Griffith last August when he dressed her for an appearance on a pilates exercise video infomercial.

Keith Urban and Carrie Underwood win big at CMT Awards

Keith Urban won video of the year and Carrie Underwood of "American Idol" was the only double winner at the Country Music Television awards show Monday.

Keith performed the song for his winning video, "Better Life," with a displaced choir from the Gulf Coast and scenes from the hurricane-damaged region.

"We just wanted to present a better tone for 'Better Life,' and I had been down to New Orleans and was struck by a combination of things — how much has been done and how little has been done," Urban said. "We just wanted to bring a little more awareness back to the cause down there."

Underwood, launched her career last year after winning "American Idol," took home honors for breakthrough video and female video for her inspirational hit "Jesus, Take the Wheel."

"This is my very first acceptance speech so I made a list," Underwood said before thanking everyone from God to "Idol."

"Music videos are a huge tool," she said after the ceremony for the awards, chosen by fans. "Fans love them because they add a new dimension to the song, and we love them because it's just another way to get (the music) out there. For my first video to win two awards tonight was amazing."
