  • Axl and Hilfiger - Round 1

Tommy Hilfiger really showed his "Appetite for Destruction" yesterday when he pummeled Guns N' Roses frontman Axl Rose in a dispute over a VIP table at Rosario Dawson's birthday party, sources said.

The midnight turf battle erupted when Axl moved Hilfiger's girlfriend's drink in the banquette area of The Plumm nightclub on West 14th Street - where the "Rent" actress was celebrating her 27th birthday.

A densely packed crowd of celebs - including Lenny Kravitz and Kid Rock - had ringside seats to the battle.

The feisty fashionista was acting all gangsta, hitting Axl with a flurry of punches, one that landed under Rose's eye.

"First [Axl and Tommy] were sitting. Then they were pulling on each other . . . It got so out of control," said a shocked witness.

As the punch-up escalated, Hilfiger introduced Rose to some "November Pain" with a blow to the cheek. Club guards quickly tried to separate the men.

"A bunch of security ran over - but Tommy would not back down. He was just out to take him down," the witness said.

"Kid Rock got trampled by people running over. It was unbelievable."

Eventually, the designer's own bodyguard pulled him out of the club.

Yesterday, club owner Noel Ashman pointed the finger at Hilfiger: "Axl was a gentleman and had the good sense not to retaliate, as he would have done some serious damage to Hilfiger."

Rose said the attack was unprovoked, in an interview with The Post in his dressing room.

The singer said Hilfiger may have been angry because he'd been told to move to make room for Rose and his entourage.

Rose described Hilfiger as "foaming at the mouth."

When Rose took the stage a few minutes later to perform the song "You're Crazy," he dedicated it "to my good friend Tommy Hilfiger."

Kid Rock, wearing a black-brimmed hat and smoking a cigar, took his fellow rocker's side, and explained that Hilfiger was upset because he is way further down on the fame food chain.

The hierarchy, according to Kid Rock, begins with mere mortals and works its way up to sports stars.

"After that it's movie stars, then rock stars, then Michael Jordan." Hilfiger is somewhere between a mere mortal and a sports star in this ranking.

Lenny Kravitz seemed to side with Hilfiger, and also fled the club soon after Hilfiger got the heave-ho.

Hilfiger's peeps would not comment yesterday.

  • Mike Wallace Rips Tom Cruise

Mike Wallace is set to take a quasi retirement from the news business as the veteran CBS broadcaster, who turns 88 on Tuesday, officially becomes "correspondent emeritus" at the end of this month. So on the way out, he's speaking his mind.

One of those in the cross hairs, actor and Scientologist Tom Cruise and he flat out says, "Tom simply does not know what he is talking about."

The anchor has slammed the actor for campaigning against anti-depressants and psychiatry.

The 60 Minutes host, who has long suffered from crippling depression, claims Cruise can't credibly speak about the issue, because he hasn't experienced it. As a devout Scientologist, the actor doesn't believe in medication or counseling to treat depression.

Wallace says, "Tom simply does not know what he is talking about. Scientology is a different thing and God bless him. "But he doesn't know his tail from third base about depression. Simple as that."

The newsman recently admitted that he attempted to take his own life two decades ago and claims he has gone public about his suicide attempt in order to help others. He adds, "I had never come clean about the suicide business and I thought to myself, 'Yeah, look, I've had 20 extraordinary years since that episode.'"

  • Brian McFadden hopes to win custody of kids

Brian McFadden has vowed that he will "drop bombshells" in court to get custody of his children.

The former Westlife singer has apparently received letters from estranged wife Kerry Katona which make it difficult for him to see four-year-old Molly and three-year-old Lilly Sue.

"I've been driven to this. If I have to drop bombshells about Kerry in court to get my kids then I am prepared to do that. I'm doing it for the girls," McFadden said. "I know they want to be with me. I will tell the truth and let the judge decide."

McFadden has been living in New York with singer and former Neighbours actress Delta Goodrem.

Kerry explained, "Brian should not expect to see the girls at a drop of a hat wherever and whenever it suits him. Neither do I think he should expect for me to let Molly and Lilly Sue go off with total strangers for very long journeys in order for them to see their dad.

"The last thing I would want is for Brian not to see the children. I lost out myself on not having a father around when I grew up and would naturally hate for my daughters to experience what I went through."

  • Princes: "We love trash TV shows"

Princes William and Harry have admitted they love "trash TV" and rap music much to the annoyance of their Leonard Cohen-fan dad.

The revelations came in Ant and Dec's interview with the royals to mark the 30th anniversary of Charles's charity the Prince's Trust.

Asked about their musical taste, William and Harry both enthused about rap, although the elder jokes: "Actually I'd say his was pretty shocking, but mine was very good."

Dad revealed an admiration for the more refined Leonard Cohen, however. "I tell you who I also think is wonderful is a chap called Leonard Cohen … do you know him?" he comments. "He's remarkable. I mean, the orchestration is fantastic and the words, the lyrics and everything, he's a remarkable man, and has this incredibly sort of laid back gravelly voice, it's terrific stuff I think. I enjoy jazz and things ...'

He said the music divide in their house was well marked. "These two play this stuff and I'm sitting there going "zzer, zzer, zzer, zzer" [shaking to a jazz beat] downstairs and the whole place is ..." Dec asked: "Just like houses up and down the country - "turn that racket down?"

"Yes, exactly," agreed William, before moving on to his television preferences. Pointing at Harry, he commented: "We like the same sort of things, although there is usually an argument over the remote control at home about who watches what – that usually goes on for quite a while."

"Friends is always a safe bet," added Harry, admitting that the pair are "trash TV" fans. "He won't admit to it, but we did both watch it, especially the American Pop Idol."

The Prince's Trust 30th Birthday – Live is on ITV at 6.55pm tonight (Saturday) and a full version of the princes' interview will air at 12.45pm on Sunday.

  • Hollywood to film Beslan tragedy

A Hollywood film studio is planning to make a film about the 2004 Beslan school massacre.
Imagine Entertainment, the company behind The Da Vinci Code, and Universal Studios have bought the rights to a magazine article about the tragedy.

Chechen separatists have claimed responsibility for the siege at the Russian school, which killed 331 people, including 186 children.

The article, by CJ Chivers, will appear in next month's Esquire magazine.

Producer Brian Grazer, whose films include A Beautiful Mind and Apollo 13, said the story "cried out to be told on the big screen".

Mr Chivers, who is the New York Times' Moscow correspondent, returned to the site of the massacre 18 months after the event to interview survivors.

The sole surviving suspect from the siege, Nur-Pashi Kulayev, has been on trial for just over a year.

On Tuesday, a judge at a court in southern Russia said Kulayev had committed an act of terrorism.

Tamerlan Aguzarov, chief justice of the high court in North Ossetia, began reading out the verdict in the trial of Nur-Pashi Kulayev, a process which is likely to take several days before the sentence is announced.

Kulayev faces several charges, including murder, over the attack.

Prosecutors have called for the death penalty. But as there is currently a moratorium on capital punishment in Russia, life imprisonment is more likely

So she said why don’t you come up to my room in a few minutes, I’m going to take a shower, and I was like yeah, you know, I’m going to do this. The next thing I remember, I woke up with barf all over my room and security was pounding on the door because I had to get to the show. I was in my own room, I just missed the whole thing!

  • Girls Suspended For Spice Girls Song

The parents of five Gwinnett County teens are still shaking their heads in disbelief after the girls found themselves abruptly suspended from school for singing a Spice Girls song.

Not only that, they were also barred from going to their graduation celebration.

The 8th graders at Five Forks Middle School are just days away from their big end-of-the-year celebration. But straight-A student Rachel Lowe won’t be there. Neither will four of her closest friends.

The five are being punished for singing a song that every “tween” in the world knows by heart -- “Wannabe” by The Spice Girls.

The girls got a standing ovation from the crowd, but an in-school suspension from the principal.

“When school came the following Monday morning, the principal pulled the five girls in and was very angry at them, and told them that they ruined the talent show and that she wanted to get up on the stage and jerk the microphone out of their hands,” said mother Raylene Lowe.

The issue is over one word that the principal thought inappropriate -- lover.

The parents say the lyrics are, at best, G-rated bubble gum. Now, what they want, what they really-really want, is for the school to allow the girls to go to their class party.

“To take away their 8th grade celebration -- which is one of their few socials they've had in the three years that she's been there -- I thought that was very harsh,” Lowe said.

School officials say the girls were told to change the lyrics, but the kids say that's not true, and that it shouldn't be a crime for nice girls to sing The Spice Girls.

Gwinnett County school officials declined to respond on camera, saying that the school's principal and faculty are allowed to decide what lyrics are inappropriate.

  • Morning Show Host and Halle Berry Have 'Racist Moment'

What was meant to be a friendly chat to promote the new "X-Men" movie turned into a frosty discussion about race on a popular morning radio program, but the British Broadcasting Corp. defended its disc jockey.

Oscar-winning actress Halle Berry appeared on Chris Moyles' Radio One breakfast show Thursday morning and clashed with her host after he impersonated what he described as a "big, fat, black guy."

"Are we having a racist moment here?" Berry asked Moyles after she took exception to his impersonation. Moyles said he just couldn't do American accents.

"There was nothing racist in what Chris said, and he made that clear on air," a BBC spokesman said Friday on condition of anonymity, in line with the corporation's policy.

The exchange began when Hugh Jackman, Berry's "X-Men: The Last Stand" co-star, jokingly suggested that Moyles might take the role of his body double if he ever landed the part of James Bond.

"I could definitely do that," Moyles said before adding, "Put your hands in the air!"

A somewhat puzzled Jackman replied, "Are you some kind of Brooklyn Bond?"

Moyles replied: "I'm a black American guy. A big, fat, black guy. Put your hands up in the air."

The interview continued, though the DJ later said Berry was "ratty" — British slang for grouchy.

  • Latest on XF2 Movie

Frank Spotnitz, the mastermind behind much of the mythology of The X-Files, told SCI FI Wire that he has signed on to help write the next movie based on the hit series, but that the new movie won't deal with the show's byzantine conspiracy arc. "There's still a very good chance that we will all do another X-Files movie," Spotnitz said in an interview. Spotnitz was an executive producer on the show, which starred David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson; it ended its nine-year run in 2002.

One point of contention in getting a second X-Files film off the ground: Series creator Chris Carter is still wrangling with 20th Century Fox over legal matters. "David, Gillian and I, and even Chris Carter, all have deals in place, and once the legal issues are over with, we will go on with it," Spotnitz said. "I'm hoping it will get resolved soon."

Although the script isn't written, the idea is already developed, Spotnitz said. He added that Fox likes the idea, which harkens back to the series' stand-alone episodes rather than the conspiracy to cover up the existence of extra-terrestrials, which was the subject of the first X-Files movie.

"No, we're not going into the mythology [in the sequel]," Spotnitz said. "One of the things that was exciting about doing it is to not make it a mythology story, and it's like one of the stand-alone episodes. It's a bit scary. Of course, we will catch up with the characters and what is going on in their lives, but it's not about the alien conspiracy. It's not about that." The first X-Files movie came out in 1998.
