Scott Weinberg writes: "The horror fans know they'll (seemingly) always have a new "Saw" flick to enjoy each October -- and they'll also be happy to know that series regulars Tobin Bell, Shawnee Smith, and Dina Meyer will be returning. And they'll be joined by newcomers Bahar Soomekh ("Mission: Impossible 3") and Angus Macfadyen ("Equilibrium").

Says Variety: "Pic, which is being produced by Lionsgate and Twisted Pictures, is set to begin shooting May 8 in Toronto. "Saw III" will be directed by Darren Lynn Bousman ("Saw II"). Franchise scribes Leigh Whannell and James Wan came up with the story for the upcoming installment, with Whannell penning the screenplay.

All told, horror franchise has grossed more than $250 million in worldwide box office receipts, with DVD sales approaching 10 million units, according to Lionsgate.

Edward Norton was left in agony on the set of his new movie The Painted Veil after he was thrown from a horse onto a pile of rocks.

The Fight Club actor was shooting the film with Naomi Watts in China when his steed got the better of him and he was left with a broken back.

Norton admits he had no idea just how badly he'd injured his back at first: "I did not feel good and I remember I thought at the time, 'This could be really bad, this could be one of those stories; I'm gonna end up one of those people.' But I didn't actually know it was broken.

"I finished the film out and then went to Hong Kong. I was in a lot of pain."

The actor admits the injury actually helped him perfect his character in the film.

He explains, "I was playing this kind of uptight British doctor and it (injury) actually kind of worked."

Norton jokes, "That's how far I'm willing to go. I mean (Robert) De Niro just gained weight (to play Jake La Motta in Raging Bull)."

Britney Spears has failed to turn up at a press conference even though she called it herself.

The pop star invited journalists and music industry executives to a mysterious gathering at the Los Angeles Convention Centre, but did not make an appearance.

Whilst the reasons for the press conference were never revealed, speculation has been rife that she would be announcing her second pregnancy.

AP reports that no announcement has been made regarding the reason for the cancellation or whether it will be rescheduled.

Sex and the City actress Sarah Jessica Parker is to star in a horror movie. She will play a wife in Vacancy, battling depraved perverts who kill people and film the murders. Last night, an insider revealed: "It's a very controversial role for Sarah. Since Sex and the City, she's just starred in gentle romantic comedies. "Vacancy will be extremely violent and explicit. It's a million miles away from her previous work." In the movie, Sarah and her husband check into a motel unaware there is a hidden camera in their room. The insider added: "She has to watch as the film makers torture and kill her husband."

New York, USA :: 41-year-old actress Sarah Jessica Parker swept up the trash in front of her Manhattan apartment this past weekend. She wore an INSPI(RED) t-shirt, a nod to the Global Fund. Sarah Jessica Parker and huband Matthew Broderick make cameos in the much-delayed big-screen version of Strangers With Candy, which finally comes out on June 28. It’s based on the 2001 Comedy Central series that’s like an after-school special gone awry in which Amy Sedaris plays Jerry Blank and Stephen Colbert plays her not-very-closeted teacher.

Peter Jackson is working on a £100 million remake of The Dam Busters, according to reports.

The director is set to bring his special effects expertise and a big budget to the World War II classic.

According to The Mail on Sunday, Jackson recently filmed one of the last surviving Lancaster bombers. A source told the paper "It was clear just how much he knew about warplanes. We believe the footage is to help his special effects team.
"Peter has been in contact with the old crewmen, who are well into their 80s. I believe he is helping to create a memorial to the New Zealand airmen who flew bombers, including those who died in the Dam Busters mission."

The director has reportedly asked his assistant Matt Dravitski to attend the annual Dam Busters reunion this month at Petwood Hotel, near Lincoln.

Jackson will work with Sir David Frost, who bought the rights to the 1951 book, about a low-level RAF bombing raid, last year. Frost commented at the time: "The real challenge is to make the film as good as, or better than, the original."

Lionel Richie blames himself for his TV star daughter Nicole's alarming weight loss, claiming she is suffering from trauma and stress caused by his divorce.

The Hello star admits he has been worried about Nicole's weight for a while, and was relieved when she finally admitted she had a problem and is seeking help.

Richie says, "When I saw how thin she was, I was concerned and worried. I would love to see her with more meat on her.

"When Nicole worries, she doesn't eat - that's just the way she is. She is very sensitive and has been through a very tough time. Our divorce was difficult for her.

"When you go through trauma, you either gain a lot of weight or you lose it."

Nicole says, "I know I'm too thin, so I don't want any girl looking at me and saying, 'That's what I want to look like'. I'm not happy with the way I look. I have a problem and I want to fix it."

BRUCE WILLIS blames his addiction for playing cops on his admiration for the work they do. The DIE HARD star, who currently stars in 16 BLOCKS as ageing detective JACK MOSLEY, believes policemen are the world's ultimate, and often unsung, heroes. He says, "I think it's partly because I'm from South Jersey and I have a strong affinity to working-class people. I believe that any job that requires you to possibly get shot dead, you should get paid hundreds of thousands of dollars for. "These guys don't get paid anything. And yet they go out and do it. "There's not a lot of them out there, and they're the last line between us and the wolves and the chaos that's out in the world."

Donnie Darko director Richard Kelly's passport is being investigated by Homeland Security. Kelly is supossed to debut his second feature film, Southland Tales at the Cannes Film Festival in France in late May. As it turns out, Kelly's passport has been "under review" for several days in Washington DC because there's a "James Kelly" on the terrorist watch list.

Kelly says that the situation is "getting out of control." He has contacted a Senator for aid, and has his mom digging through documents to prove his citizenship.

Southland Tales, is partly about the police-state security measures taken by the U.S. government after a 9/11-type attack.

Mark-Paul Gosselaar, 32, and wife Lisa, 34, welcomed their second child, daughter Ava Lorenn, at noon on Sunday in Los Angeles.

"Mother, daughter and family are all well," says rep Ame Van Iden.

Gosselaar, a star of ABC's Commander in Chief, and Lisa also have a son, Michael Charles, 2.

The couple met when Lisa had a small role on Saved by the Bell, the show that made Gosselaar famous. They married in 1996.

Gosselaar, a former child star who began modeling at age 5 and hit it big on Bell in 1989, also starred on NYPD Blue.

Ashlee Simpson says she wants to wait to get married — unlike her big sister Jessica.

The 21-year-old revealed in an interview with Teen People in its June/July edition that she has watched her newly single sister "go through a really hard time" and that tying the knot "is definitely not on my mind."

While Ashlee Simpson said she was "absolutely in love" with her band mate and boyfriend Braxton Olita, she added that she's taking it slow.

"There's a lot of growing you do in your 20s, and I definitely want to wait until my late 20s or 30s or whenever the time is right," she told the magazine.

Simpson's singer-actress sister Jessica, 25, filed for divorce in December from Nick Lachey after three years of marriage.

Ashlee Simpson does hope to follow in Jessica's footsteps in another way — acting.

"I'd like to do a really great movie by the time I'm 25," she said, adding that she was currently reading scripts and looking at films with a style like writer-director Quentin Tarantino's.

Pete Doherty sells phone to stranger, complete with texts from Kate Moss

Pete Doherty has apparently sold his mobile phone to a stranger to get his hands on some quick cash to spend on drugs - but he didn’t think to wipe its memory first.

The phone reportedly held recent messages from Kate Moss where she calls him “my only love” and pleads with him to give up heroin so they can spend the summer together at her home in the Cotswolds.

It also held messages from fans calling his music inspirational and photographs of Pete partying with his friends.

A friend of his said: “This is plumbing new depths, even for Pete.”

“Selling a phone for the sake of a fix, and risking people getting hold of these details, is just stupid.”

"Sophia Bush ('One Tree Hill,' 'Stay Alive') will play the female lead in Platinum Dunes and Rogue Pictures' horror remake The Hitcher, based on the 1986 classic.

Director Dave Meyers' new version will follow two young travelers who are tormented by a mysterious hitchhiker. Jake Wade Wall and Eric Brent wrote the script. Production is scheduled to start this June in Austin, Texas.

Directed by Robert Harmon, the original starred C. Thomas Howell as a teen who picks up the hitchhiker from hell (Rutger Hauer), a serial killer who torments the youth by implicating him in each of his crimes.

Michael Bay, Brad Fuller and Andrew Form are producing for Dunes, along with Charles Meeker and Alfred Haber. The company previously remade 'The Texas Chainsaw Massacre' and 'The Amityville Horror.'"

Reese Witherspoon is so determined to forgive her brother John, who has just completed two years probation for sexual assault, she has given him a job.

The Legally Blonde actress believes employing him as her assistant on the set of new movie Our Family Trouble is the perfect way to help him move on.

Witherspoon’s husband Ryan Phillipe is reportedly not so sure.

A friend of Witherspoon says, "Ryan is seething. He doesn’t like John."

John Witherspoon pleaded guilty to aggravated burglary and sexual battery after his arrest in 2002. He was accused of sneaking into a neighbor’s house, and drunkenly molesting her as she slept.

Jessica Simpson has cut all contact with her “toxic” ex-husband Nick Lachey after his recent critical interviews about the star.

Lachey has implied in recent interviews to promote his new solo album that Simpson was unfaithful to him, and that she refused to try marriage counseling after shocking him by asking for a divorce last year.

Simpson is furious at Lachey’s public "betrayal," and now wants nothing more to do with the singer, despite remaining on amicable terms with him following their split.

"American Idol" finalist Kellie Pickler got a hometown welcome Saturday, one full of tearful twists and an anthem to independence.

Pickler rode in a red 1968 Ford Mustang during a 20-minute parade, followed by speeches on a stage erected in the town center where thousands wore pink, purple, green and yellow Pickler T-shirts.

"It looks like a bag of Skittles poured on Albemarle," said Pickler, 19. "I couldn't have come from a better hometown."

Sharing the stage were her two grandfathers, Clyde Pickler and Ken Morton. Also there were her father, Clyde "Bo" Pickler Jr., and her half-brother, Eric, 5.

She was reunited with her father late last week after he was released from Florida State Prison. He served time for stabbing a man about three years ago and trying to run down pursuing police.

Oscar and Golden Globe winner Kim Basinger is set to make her TV movie debut in the Lifetime original movie "The Mermaid Chair," based on the best-selling book by Sue Monk Kidd.

In addition, Emmy winner Steven Schachter has come on board to direct the movie, which tells the story of Jessie Sullivan, a married woman who falls in love with a Benedictine monk and the crisis and self-awakening it ignites.

"Mermaid Chair" will premiere on the cable network in September. "We are ecstatic to not only have the opportunity to bring this hugely popular novel to the small screen but to also have Kim Basinger star in this magical film," Lifetime senior vp original movies Trevor Walton said.

"We feel this talented actress is the perfect woman to portray the complicated and soulful role of Jessie."

The trio of recording superstars are among the A-list names who'll appear at next month's MTV Movie Awards. New-to-Hollywood stars Justin and Luda, meanwhile, will hand out the famous Golden Popcorn awards alongside stars including Will Ferrell, Kate Hudson, Owen Wilson, Kate Beckinsale and the soon-to-be-superstar from "Superman Returns," Brandon Routh.

In addition to Aguilera, the 2006 edition of the annual event will feature a performance by punk/glam rockers AFI, who'll bust out the new song "Miss Murder" for its first-ever TV performance, just days after their new album, Decemberunderground, hits stores.

Along with the aforementioned stars of films like "Wedding Crashers," "Superman" and "Hustle & Flow," MTV Movie Awards host Jessica Alba will welcome dozens of other presenters to the stage. Anderson Cooper will contribute five stories a year to "60 Minutes" on CBS in an arrangement that also allows CNN to rebroadcast those reports, both networks said Monday.

Cooper, 38, fills a part-time slot previously taken by CNN's Christiane Amanpour and, along with Katie Couric's arrival at CBS this fall, gives a shot of new blood to television's top-rated newsmagazine.

Cooper did two stories last season for the now-defunct "60 Minutes II." One was an investigative piece about steroid use in the National Football League.

"I'm very excited by the opportunity to work at `60 Minutes,'" Cooper said. "I grew up watching the broadcast and, like many Americans, still try to make sure I'm home Sunday nights at 7 so I can see it."
