Police detained around 12 people this weekend after violence broke out at the end of the Download festival.

Leicestershire police were called to the festival site when fires and bursts of violence were reported. When they arrived on the scene, missiles were thrown and abuse was aimed at police officers, though no-one was seriously hurt.

The violence closely followed high praise from the police force for festival organisers and attendees as the number of arrests had been kept to only four the whole weekend.

Superintendent Les Milner has now called for any witnesses who may have recorded incidents on camera phones or other apparatus to get in touch.

"The disorder involved a number of people and it is not clear at this early stage what sparked the trouble," he said.

Around 12 of the worst trouble makers have been arrested and could face charges of assault and criminal damage.

Spears calls her marriage 'awesome' but paparazzi leave her 'emotional wreck'

NEW YORK (AP) - Britney Spears says her marriage to Kevin Federline is "awesome," and scrutiny from the paparazzi has made her an "emotional wreck."

Opening up in an interview with NBC's Matt Lauer to be aired Thursday on the Today show and Dateline, the 24-year-old singer says it's not true that Federline is living in the basement, as some media have reported.

The paparazzi have "crossed the line a little bit" by showing her in private moments, she added. She also defended her parenting skills, saying, "I know I'm a good mom."

She drew criticism earlier this year when she was photographed with her infant son, Sean, sitting on her lap as she drove. She cautions against judging her.

"I did it with my dad. I'd sit on his lap and I drive," the Louisiana native said. "We're country."

The singer said she feels like a target. Asked what she would say to the paparazzi as individuals, she says: "You have a life. And if you don't, you have to realize that we're people and that we . . . just need privacy and we need our respect. And those are things that you have to have as a human being."

Federline and Spears married in the fall of 2004, and their son, Sean Preston, was born last September. She disclosed last month that she is pregnant again.

Federline also has two children, Kori and Kaleb, with his former girlfriend, Shar Jackson.

Scottish singer KT Tunstall was thrilled when American Idol contestant Katharine McPhee sang her song Black Horse and the Cherry Tree, because it exposed her music to millions of new fans.
Tunstall was shocked when she saw the performance on the hit US TV show, because she didn't think her material was popular across the Atlantic.

She explains, "It was so crazy seeing that. She (McPhee) just looked like she was having a really good time.
"It was really cool that she did something different."

While Tunstall says she enjoys the show, she believes singers need to pay their dues in the music industry.
She adds, "It's a great TV show, but it's not amazing music to me.
"It's kind of like watching karaoke. It's not the same as spending 10 years to try to get somewhere as a musician like I did."

ROBBIE WILLIAMS set out to rock Dublin last night – but the opening night of his tour almost ended in disaster.

During the show’s finale, the singer was supposed to drop almost 100ft to the stage in a “gondola” — but things went badly wrong.

A technical glitch meant Robbie ended up running on to the set in a panic as fire exploded around him.
