Australian singer Delta Goodrem has dumped her mother, Lea, as her manager and signed up with boyfriend Brian McFadden's management team.

The 21-year-old star decided her mum should take a step back from guiding her career so they "can enjoy being mother and daughter".

Goodrem explains: "Mum and I will always be a team and I respect and love her and we still talk about everything."

The former Neighbours star insists she's the one who decided to sign-up with London-based Modest Entertainment, who also manages British R&B star Lemar.

She adds: "I think I'm smart enough to make my own decisions. Brian is the love of my life and he is so supportive of me, as is my mum."

Goodrem insists the change in management had nothing to do with rumoured strife between her mother and McFadden, and claims the couple are stronger than ever.

She adds: "To be honest I am really proud of us, because we've had so much thrown at us and it's not justified."

McFadden is embroiled in a bitter custody battle with his former wife, singer Kerry Katona.
