Evangeline Lilly paranoid about looks

by lawsonjeff @ 2006-06-21 - 11:50:09

Evangeline Lilly covers up the mirrors in her house - because she is paranoid about how she looks.

The stunning actress, who plays one-time fugitive Kate in hit US series 'Lost', says since starring in the hugely popular show she has become extremely self-conscious over her appearance and constantly finds flaws with her body.

She said: "I've never felt so stressed or conscious of how I look. If you walk into my bathroom, the mirror is covered by a sarong. I just want to forget what I look like when I get home."

It is not the first time Lilly has confessed she is paranoid about her figure.

The brunette actress, who is dating her 'Lost' co-star Dominic Monaghan, revealed she "kicked up a real fuss" when show bosses asked her to shoot a semi-nude scene in the first episode of the series.

She was so adamant she wouldn't strip for the cameras she demanded the script be re-written.

Lilly said at the time: "When we came to shoot the scene it had been re-written for me to be in a tank top and underwear and I really appreciate that they made it more modest."

Diddy gets Lohan thrown out of party

by lawsonjeff @ 2006-06-21 - 11:43:33

The rapper's security removed the 'Mean Girls' star from a private concert by Prince at exclusive Los Angeles club Butter last Friday after she got into a blazing row with rival Paris Hilton.

An eyewitness told America's New York Post newspaper: "She went back to her table, there were only six tables, and everyone was sharing. Diddy and his people wanted to sit with her on her table but Lindsay refused and began mixing it up with him.

"His bodyguards came over and picked Lindsay up to get her out."

However, another reveller had a different take on the fracas.

They explained: "She kidded with him, asking what he was doing at her table.

"He didn't realize she was joking and he then yelled at her and told her to get out. Diddy was really mean to her."

When asked about what happened, a spokesman for Diddy's camp said: "Lindsay was being so loud and obnoxious. His security became concerned and came over to escort her away."

Lindsay and Paris have been at loggerheads ever since the 'Mean Girls' actress was spotted getting intimate with the hotel heiress' ex-boyfriend Stavros Niarchos.

Brittany Murphy is voice of Disney's Tinker Bell

The Walt Disney Co on Tuesday said "Just Married" actress Brittany Murphy will provide the voice for the fairy Tinker Bell in an upcoming animated film, the first in the new Disney Fairies line.

Disney's Fairy franchise rolled out last fall and follows on the success of the company's Princess line, which has grossed $3 billion in fiscal 2005.

Positive buzz for Superman Returns

by lawsonjeff @ 2006-06-21 - 10:38:52

"Superman Returns," which opens in the United States next week, is receiving knock-out first reviews from critics, with newcomer Brandon Routh tipped to win over audiences as the latest crime-fighting "Man of Steel."

Hollywood's two trade newspapers, Daily Variety and Hollywood Reporter, gave the movie strong reviews, with The Reporter describing it as "a heartfelt Superman movie that plays to a broad audience thanks to an emotionally troubled Man of Steel."

Daily Variety critic Todd McCarthy said director Bryan Singer had imprinted the Warner Bros. movie with its own personality. "'Superman Returns' is never self-consciously hip, ironic, post-modern or camp. To the contrary, it's quite sincere, with an artistic elegance," he said.

Routh won praise for his apparent effortlessness -- with his resemblance to Superman predecessor, the late Christopher Reeve, not going unnoticed.

The movie's plot has Superman returning to Earth following a mysterious absence of several years. Back home, an old enemy plots to render him powerless once and for all while the superhero's great love, Lois Lane (Kate Bosworth), has moved on -- or has she?

Newsweek said Singer, who left the popular "X-Men" franchise to make "Superman Returns," did the right thing from the start of "this gorgeously crafted epic" by showing respect for the most foursquare comic superheroes of them all.

The magazine added that "Routh may or may not be a real actor, but he effortlessly lays claim to the iconic role, just as Reeve did. Indeed, he virtually duplicates Reeve in the way he plays Kent as a diffident, awkward Midwestern colt."

"Next to Singer's champagne, most recent superhero adventure movies are barely sparkling cider."

Time magazine said Singer and writers Michael Dougherty and Dan Harris had revived and revised the story's premise. "The result is an action adventure that's as thrilling for what it means as for what is shows," Time said.

The film is Superman's first big-screen appearance since the 1987 movie "Superman IV: The Quest for Peace" starring Reeve.

Spears' Security Ruling Favors Pop Star

by lawsonjeff @ 2006-06-21 - 10:34:17

Pop star Britney Spears may escape paying the substantial overtime bill demanded by three former security guards, after a judge ruled the dispute must be settled through arbitration. Silas Dukes, Lonnie Deshawn Jones and Randy Jones sued Spears in March, claiming they were owed money after being hired by Britney Brands Inc. and Britney Touring Inc. to watch over the 24-year-old singer and her home. But they were left fuming at Monday's ruling, insisting they never agreed for the wage dispute to be arbitrated. In addition, two of three arbitration meetings will be held in New York City instead of under California's more favorable laws, prompting concerns the men's case may suffer a disadvantage. Their lawyers plan to appeal.

The couple confirmed in a recent statement: "We are very happy to be back in Australia. We have come home to celebrate our wedding with our family and friends." However, Catholic Kidman denies the quick nuptials have anything to do with pregnancy. Her spokeswoman Catherine Olim tells the New York Daily News, "This is a rumor that comes around every month. It has for past year or two. Believe me on this one. She is religious, and that would never do."

by lawsonjeff @ 2006-06-21 - 10:27:54

The film version of 1980s TV series Miami Vice is in serious trouble after experiencing budget problems and less-than-stellar reviews, according to press reports in the US. The movie stars Oscar winner Jamie Foxx and Colin Farrell and is set for its American release on July 28. The remake cost $125 million to make. A source at Universal Pictures tells Fox News correspondent Roger Friedman, "And that's just what we're admitting to. It's probably more like $150 million." Director Michael Mann has reportedly been furiously editing the film, which apparently fails to capture the spirit of the original hit series. A source adds, "Michael still has time to fix it, but not much. But he would have to pull off a miracle to make it work."
