Brad Pitt Interview

by lawsonjeff @ 2006-06-25 - 16:25:09

If it wasn't for Brad Pitt, most Americans would never have heard of Namibia. They might not know about AIDS orphans in South Africa, or the plight of children in Haiti, or what transpired at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland. Pitt, 42, has been a movie star for 15 years—and a paparazzi target for nearly as long. Celebrity mags have made millions reporting on his love life.

So he started fighting back—but not by punching photographers. If paparazzi were going to follow him everywhere, Pitt figured he might as well drag them somewhere that desperately needed the world's attention. "It's the first time I've actually felt like we have some degree of control over it," says Pitt, from his home in Malibu. "I can't describe what an immense relief it is for me." The splashiest example of his new strategy unfolded just last month. He and Jolie, who, perhaps you've heard, recently gave birth to their daughter Shiloh Nouvel in Namibia, sold the coveted first baby photos to Hello magazine for a reported $4 million—and gave all the money to African charities. "Knowing that someone was going to hound us for that first photo—and was going to profit immensely for doing it—I just couldn't live with it," Pitt says. "We were able to turn that around and collect millions for people who are really going to need it."

Pitt has also been studying trade issues, diving into why much of Africa is so impoverished and how it can be turned around. "Industrialized nations cost Africa three times what we give it in aid," he says. "We buy their coffee beans, but we don't let them process the beans, which is where the real money is. So what we're doing is digging a hole for them that they can't get out of, and then throwing a little money in the hole. The odds are just stacked against them."

Fatherhood, he says, helped accelerate his activism. Not long before Shiloh was born, Pitt adopted Angelina Jolie's son, Maddox, whom she originally adopted from Cambodia, and her daughter Zahara, whom she adopted last summer from Ethiopia. "I look at [Zahara] and imagine what her life could have been," he says. "You want to grab as many of these kids in your arms as you can. They need our help, and we should be doing more."

He's doing more in America, too. A longtime student of architecture and an advocate of "green" design, Pitt saw an opportunity after Hurricane Katrina to help rebuild New Orleans in an innovative way. Joining forces with Global Green USA, an environmental advocacy group, Pitt put up $100,000 to help sponsor an architecture competition that requires contestants to create affordable, multifamily housing for the city that is ecofriendly and community focused. Global Green has already received more than 3,000 submissions. "We can't just consume ourselves into extinction," he says. "We have to find a new paradigm, a new way of thinking. Of course, the ultimate goal is to get the designs built. It's a bit of a quagmire down there now, so I see myself getting even more involved in the future."

First, he has to be free to leave the house. Since returning from Africa, the Jolie-Pitt clan has been swarmed by paparazzi. "They're outside the house right now, at least 40 of them," Pitt says.

"There are two boats out in the water, and there's an occasional chopper that goes by." Indeed, the sound of a helicopter propeller is so loud at times during Newsweek's interview that Pitt can't hear the questions. "It's madness," he says. But he doesn't sound annoyed. Far from it: he sounds like any other blissed-out new dad. "Do you have kids? It's absolutely sublime." You can virtually hear him smile over the phone. "Whether you have them or adopt them, they're all blood. And the funniest people I've ever met." Pretty soon, it'll be their generation's world. "I've had the luxury of being able to see these issues firsthand," he says. "If I don't share that, I'm complicit in the problem." Instead, he's making sure he's part of the solution.

Nicole Kidman & Keith Urban Marry

by lawsonjeff @ 2006-06-25 - 10:32:23

Actress Nicole Kidman wed country music star Keith Urban in a traditional Catholic ceremony at Cardinal Cerretti Memorial Chapel in St. Patrick’s Estate in Manly, Australia, at sunset on Sunday June 25.

Kidman arrived at the ceremony in a Rolls Royce wearing a strapless gown and veil. The bridal party which included Nicole’s daughter Isabella, sister Antonio, and Antonia’s daughter, Lucia, were close behind in a second Rolls Royce wearing matching dresses. The groom’s party consisted of Keith’s brother, Shane Urban, Marcus Holden and Peter Clarke.

The flowers included anemones, freesias, gardenias, gumnuts, green goddess lilies, hellebores, and orchids, arranged by florist Saskia Havekes of Grandiflora. After the wedding, the flowers were donated to the Sydney Children’s Hospital.

The black tie reception was held at St. Patrick’s Estate, as well, where guests mingled beneath a white tent. In lieu of presents, Urban and Kidman asked that charitable donations be made.

The couple met in January 2005 at a black-tie dinner in Los Angeles sponsored by the Australian government. This is Urban’s first marriage and Kidman’s second marriage. She was previously married to actor Tom Cruise with whom she has two children, Isabella, 13, and Conor, 11.

Longtime family friend and Jesuit priest Father Paul Coleman conducted the ceremony
The priest told reporters earlier this week that he had a “good feeling about their chances.”

“You’ve got to rely on their maturity and knowledge of each other and I’m impressed,” he said. Asked what advice he would give the couple for their marriage, Father Coleman said: “Make time for each other, do romantic things together and never part without kissing.”

Walsh to go head-to-head with O'Grady

by lawsonjeff @ 2006-06-25 - 08:11:18

Bradley Walsh is expected to go head-to-head with Paul O'Grady in the autumn.

ITV chiefs hope that the Coronation Street actor will help to lure viewers back in the teatime slot, following O'Grady's move to Channel 4 earlier this year.

Walsh signed a new £1m contract with ITV in April, and it was later announced that he was "taking a break" from the Street to work on other projects.

"The plan is to put Bradley on head-to-head with O'Grady in the tea time slot doing guests and chat," a source told the Sunday Mirror. "It will be a fantastic opportunity for him."

Ex-manager: Take That are "ungrateful"

by lawsonjeff @ 2006-06-25 - 07:37:04

Take That's former manager has accused the boys of being "ungrateful" after they dumped him before going on tour.

Nigel Martin-Smith was sacked by the band despite being the man who masterminded their current reunion.

"I can't believe how I've been treated after everything I've done," he said. "Take That were all on the dole when I put them together all that time ago and they weren't doing too well when I relaunched them last year. Talk about ungrateful."

Martin-Smith now plans to talk openly about everything that has happened behind the scenes.

"I'm under a gagging clause so I can't say too much until the end of the tour," he explained. "I have kept my mouth shut for 16 years despite numerous lucrative offers to tell all."

McCartney discusses divorce with Mills

by lawsonjeff @ 2006-06-25 - 06:46:32

Paul McCartney discussed divorce plans after meeting up with estranged wife Heather Mills this week.

The pair put on a united front by attending a concert at their daughter Bea's pre-school nursery - their first public meeting since splitting five weeks ago.

"It was a little awkward but Paul used the opportunity to stress that Bea's well-being must remain their top priority, despite the looming divorce battle," a source told the Sunday Mirror.

"Paul knows it's likely to get very nasty in the next few weeks with both lawyers fighting their clients' corners as hard as possible. He tried to explain to her that she shouldn't take it personally, it will just be the legal process taking its course.

"Heather was taken aback by Paul's kindness, although some cynics among her friends believe that he could be just schmoozing her to ensure the divorce goes through more smoothly."

The Secret Daughter Of Glove-Rat Johnny

by lawsonjeff @ 2006-06-25 - 05:59:41

SEX-CHEAT boxing champ Johnny Nelson has a love child he does not see.

And despite earning more than £3million in the ring he is accused of paying barely £2,000 to support daughter Jordan, now 14.

She hasn't seen him for over a year but the youngster said: "I'm not going to let it hurt me any more."

Jordan's mum is Samantha May, whose two-year romance with Nelson ended after he cheated on her.

Sam, 39, said: "Jordan deserves recognition and financial support from her father - but he has not been a proper dad since the day he walked out on us."

Nelson cheated on Sam with Debbie - now his wife and mum of their girls aged eight and six.

And - as we revealed three weeks ago - the WBO world cruiserweight title-holder has now also cheated on HER.

Curvy blonde Vicky Fraenzel, 26, told of kinky six-hour romps with Nelson, 39 - including a session in front of a hotel window in view of passers-by.

Sam said: "When we read that Jordan looked at me and said, 'Perhaps Debbie realises how you felt when they did that to you mum.' That's what made us tell the truth at last."

Jordan, who bears a striking resemblance to her father, told us: "I wanted a proper relationship with my dad but it was really hard because I hardly saw him. I've been to his house and I like my sisters but I feel like the odd one out. I used to get upset when I read about him in the papers and he was called a 'father of two'. It was like I didn't exist."

But Jordan, who wants to be a model added: "It's been so long now since I saw him that I can't be bothered." Sam, of Walkely, Sheffield, South Yorks, met Nelson in 1990 at the leisure centre where she worked. "Within six weeks we were an item," she said.

"When I got pregnant seven months later Johnny seemed really happy and even chose Jordan's name."

She revealed: "Johnny had an amazing body but he wasn't the greatest lover in the world.

"Sex was pretty average but when you love someone that doesn't matter. There was none of this kinky stuff his latest girlfriend was talking about."

After the split little Jordan's visits to see her dad at his mansion near Sheffield dropped off.

Sam said: "He thought he could take her for a KFC then bring her back and that was doing his duty. Once she was back in 25 minutes with her chicken meal and Coke. In the last five years he's seen less and less of her."

At first Sam did not seek maintenance but Nelson later offered £100 a month. She said:

"It got very erratic. I wouldn't get anything for four months and then he'd send me just £200."

Now she has asked the Child Support Agency to step in. She said: "Johnny has given me between £1,500 and £2,000 for Jordan - around £2.50 a week.

What's that for a man who got £250,000 for his last fight?"

Nelson said: "I stood by my child. I have paid much more than £2,000 and bought Jordan clothes and other things. It is with the CSA and I am happy to pay whatever they agree.

"I have always wanted to be a good father to Jordan but there has been a rift between our families. She chose not to see me. I can't force her to."

by lawsonjeff @ 2006-06-25 - 04:48:42

Lost beauty Evangeline Lilly has racked up her tenth car crash.

In the latest smash, the 26-year-old star hit a parked vehicle on the hit show's set in Hawaii.

Evangeline, who is dating co-star Dominic Monaghan admitted: "I drove my friends truck into the caterers' truck."

"I was coming on to the set and it was early in the morning and it was really dark and I was tired. In those circumstances, who would have missed the truck? I just grazed it with the side of her truck so the white paint from the side of the caterers' van just added to the silver of my friends truck."

But Evangeline, who was a mechanic back home in Canada, was relieved her pal didn't bear a grudge.

In the past, Evangeline has criticised her fellow islanders for driving too slowly. "No one understands that there is a passing lane, no one understands there is a speed limit you can exceed," she moaned.

Routh clashed with the actor, who plays evil Lex Luthor, on and off the set of Superman Returns, which hits the UK on July 14.

Spacey, 46, even dragged a Superman doll behind the cart he rode around in.

Routh, 26, said: "There were adversarial moments on set. There was always a little of us playing our characters, good guy and bad guy off camera. Kevin pulling that doll around paid off when we came to do a scene. It gave me a real sense of Lex's evilness."

Spacey has refused to comment on his relationship with Routh amid reports the actors clashed.

Kate Corries on with a new man

by lawsonjeff @ 2006-06-25 - 01:20:15

CORRIE star Kate Ford is head over heels in love with a TV director.

The who plays Toxic Tracy Barlow — just couldn’t keep her hands off handsome 29-year-old Jon Connerty.

Last night Kate, 29, confessed: “We are together and have been seeing each other for a few weeks. It is very early days but we are very happy.“

Jon, the first man Kate has dated since her wealthy neurologist lover Sam Orde left her to live in Australia.

Jon admitted: “Kate and I have been seeing each other for a while. I don’t want to say any more than that.“

Their actions spoke louder than any words on Friday as Kate left work at Granada Studios and walked half a mile to The History Coffee Company cafe in Manchester city centre to meet Jon.

A studio source told us: “She was putting make-up on as she walked up the street to see him. Then she rang him on his mobile and was saying, ‘I’m on my way.’

When Kate got to the coffee shop he rushed out to meet her. Another customer said: “They kissed and really looked like they were in love. Then they left and walked to a nearby club called Ampersand.

Jon is working at the club as an independent director on a new programme for Channel 5. He has helped make documentaries and was on the production team for Once Upon A Time: Sergio Leone in 2001 where he worked alongside Quentin Tarantino.

He met Kate several weeks ago through mutual work friends.

The star’s new romance is streets away from the turbulent love life of her character superbitch Tracy whose storylines with Charlie Stubbs have kept fans gripped.

But the popular actress is leaving the soap when her contract runs out in the spring. Desperate execs at Granada put together a mega-money deal to keep her but she decided it was time to go.

A Street source told us: “Kate is very, very happy. She is looking for new roles and settled with her new man. He’s a really nice bloke and thinks the world of her.

“Kate is a lovely down-to-earth girl and we are all really pleased for her.”

Blunts Date With Hilton

by lawsonjeff @ 2006-06-25 - 01:08:38

James Blunt is having the best sex of his life with his new supermodel lover, her ex has revealed.

Czech beauty Petra Nemcova is so sensational in the sack the millionaire singer will be wailing You're Beautiful in ecstasy and dragging her Back To Bed-lam for more.

Meanwhile on Friday night Blunt slipped off for a secret intimate dinner with blonde heiress Paris Hilton at the Cuckoo Club in London's Mayfair.

His girlfriend was nowhere to be seen while the pair laughed and relaxed.

But she shouldn't start worrying yet - Blunt left without the blonde on his arm and they went on to seperate venues that night.

Armani model Donaes Platteel, 35, dated Petra for five years.

He said: "Sex with Petra is great.

"James is a very lucky boy because she's a really wonderful lover, sensational, absolutely faultless.

"He'll be having the best sex ever."

Petra, 27, and former Army officer Blunt, 32, met at a charity dinner for tsunami orphans in December.

In an echo of his big hit he saw her face across a crowded place and thought: You're beautiful, it's true.

The romance blossomed in April. And on a recent photo-shoot the Victoria's Secret underwear model played his five-million-selling Back To Bedlam album over and over again, trying to learn all the words.

On holiday in Ibiza earlier this month they made an odd couple. One onlooker said: "She was a bronzed goddess who turned the head of every man on the beach. But in his baggy shorts he looked more like a pasty version of the weedy nerd in the Mr Muscle ads."

Not a problem she had with Dutch-born Donaes. "Petra and I were together for a long time," he said. "We are beautiful people, and we were the perfect couple.

"It's not difficult for me to deal with Petra having sex with James. He is a really cool guy and I'm happy for her.

"I have to let her go and give her her freedom. I'm over it."

Blunt ended his on-off romance with girlfriend Camilla Boler in April and has since been linked to Pussycat Doll Jessica Sutta. He also had an affair with TV presenter and socialite Tara Palmer-Tomkinson.

But Donaes, who bumped into the couple in Ibiza, thinks that Petra could not have found a nicer fella. Blunt even invited him to his PARENTS' villa on the holiday island for drinks. The male model said: "Petra and I still meet up every now and then. James has got to realise that I'm on the scene.

"That's not going to stop because Petra and I still have a good friendship.

"We go together twice a year on universal energy courses, which keep your mind focused spiritually."

Donaes, who has worked with supermodels Naomi Campbell and Claudia Schiffer, even insists his ex is in LOVE with millionaire James.

He said: "I dated Petra for five years and I know her very well. She doesn't give her heart away unless she's sure the guy is the right one.

New York-based Petra, who celebrated her 27th birthday on Friday, split with him in 2003 after falling in love with British fashion photographer Simon Attlee.

They met on modelling shoots when she was living with Donaes. When she returned home she opened her heart about her mixed feelings.

He explained: "She confessed her thoughts to me and I told her that she had to follow her heart and find out what she really felt.

"I didn't give her an ultimatum. I loved Petra enough to want to see her happy."

But that happiness ended in December 2004 when Simon was swept away by the Asian tsunami.

The pair were packed to leave their beachfront bungalow in Thailand when the huge wave swept everything away and separated them for ever. Petra clung naked to a tree for eight hours until her rescue. She suffered a broken pelvis and internal injuries. He died.

When asked if she's ever likely to fall in love again by US telly host Larry King in April, Petra said: "At the moment it's too soon."

But that very month she was spotted backstage with Blunt at the Coachella music festival in California and in New York nightclubs.
