'Lost' movie on the cards

by lawsonjeff @ 2006-07-07 - 17:02:36

Lost co-creator Damon Lindelof has revealed that he is considering making a film based on the hit television series.

Concerned about pressures to prolong the show's success for as long as possible, the makers hope to focus on maintaining the quality of the series over a shorter period of time.

Lindelof said: "We'd love to end the show after four year, five years tops and do a movie."

McLarnon joins dance reality show

by lawsonjeff @ 2006-07-07 - 16:58:30

Former Atomic Kitten singer Liz McLarnon has joined the judging panel for the upcoming third series of dance reality show Bump & Grind.

The show, broadcast on youth channel Trouble, aims to find the UK's best amateur dancer through an extensive auditions process.

Hopefuls can either perform for the judges at one of the nationwide auditions - being held this summer in Manchester, Birmingham and London - or attempt to garner attention by uploading a video to the channel's website.

Also on the judging panel are choreographers Louie Spence and Darrin Henson, while Johny P (CD:UK) is returning as host.

The show is due to air from the autumn.

William H. Macy tries hand at directing

by lawsonjeff @ 2006-07-07 - 16:52:45

William H. Macy will have his first stab at directing feature films with Keep Coming Back.

Macy, known for his roles in films such as Fargo, Con Air and Magnolia, has made a brief foray into direction before (HBO's Lip Service), but regards this as an entirely different process.

He told Coming Soon of the film: "It stars Salma Hayek, but she's the only name I can name. I've got more probably cast, but I can't say it. So that's my directorial feature debut. I directed a little film for HBO about 100 years ago, but ...this is a real movie, it's an indie."

Macy explained that writer Will Alditch was originally planning to direct, but happily passed over the reigns. "I read the script ...and I saw it in my mind's eye so clearly," he enthused. "They sent me the script asking if I wanted to play the father or this internist, and they were both wonderful roles. Mostly, I was so excited about the story and the way Will writes. It's so witty and adult and smart, and yet kinda broad and outrageous."

Macy will also appear in front of the camera in a low-key role.

Manics: We are not splitting up

by lawsonjeff @ 2006-07-07 - 16:47:00

James Dean Bradfield has denied rumours that the Manic Street Preachers are splitting up.

The frontman also added that the band are currently writing for a new album.

Bradfield has a forthcoming solo album, entitled The Great Western, due for release later this month, and bassist Nicky Wire is also writing a solo record.

But he insists that this other activity does not equate to a Manics split. He told the BBC: "It would take a hell of a lot for us to split up at any point in the future. But we have taken a brief hiatus, we committed to not releasing anything for two years because we realised we had been in a band for 21 years.

"After finishing the tour we felt we deserved to take a break, get some perspective and then make the next Manics album is as good as we can make it."

Aguilera dedicates new song to husband

by lawsonjeff @ 2006-07-07 - 16:41:52

Christina Aguilera has spoken about her appreciation for her new husband and revealed that her new single is intended as a tribute to him.

The star's new song, 'Ain't No Other Man' ,is the first release from her highly-anticipated third album Back to Basics, and has been labelled her most personal work to date.

Aguilera married music executive Jordan Bratman last November after dating for several years. She said: "Jordan's amazing in the way he loves me. All the strong feelings that I carry for him went into the lyrics of 'Ain't No Other Man'. It's my 'thank you' song for Jordan."

The Arquettes consider a second child

by lawsonjeff @ 2006-07-07 - 16:34:47

Courteney Cox Arquette and husband David Arquette may have another child, despite the setbacks they suffered in their first attempt.

It took the Friends star a number of years to conceive, after suffering numerous miscarriages. Their daughter Coco was born, however, and is now two.

Courteney told Marie Claire magazine that she also suffered post-natal problems as well: "My hormones were settling, and I felt kind of low, but I went to the doctor and figured out what I needed, and it was OK."

DON'T Hassel the Hoff!

by lawsonjeff @ 2006-07-07 - 10:12:19

David Hasselhoff was barred from Wimbledon because he was "steaming drunk," according to reports. He had a series of clashes with security staff, who would not let him in because he didn't have a ticket. Hasselhoff, 53, who's had a long battle with booze, had his arm in a brace and yelled: "You should let me in. Do you know who I am? I'm the Hoff!" Hasselhoff was eventually let in after actor pal Michael Brandon bought him a Centre Court ticket to watch champ Roger Federer.

Brokeback stars to join Academy

by lawsonjeff @ 2006-07-07 - 09:53:54

Brokeback Mountain stars Heath Ledger and Jake Gyllenhaal are among 120 people invited to join the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

Others include the 12-year-old actress Dakota Fanning, German director Werner Herzog and country star Dolly Parton.

British actresses Hayley Mills, Rachel Weisz and Keira Knightley have also been extended membership invitations.

Academy president Sid Ganis said the Oscar-awarding body had become "more selective" since 2004.

He said that only the "most exceptionally qualified candidates" from each of the academy's 14 branches had been invited to join.

Eight of the 120 names won Oscars earlier this year, among them British short film-maker Martin McDonagh. An additional 39 were nominated for awards.

It is customary for nominees to be considered for membership, though an invitation to join is not automatic.

The list of prospective new members includes actors, directors, animators, cinematographers, producers and editors.

Flames scorch Ozzy Osbourne's mansion

by lawsonjeff @ 2006-07-07 - 09:46:57

Flames scorched Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne's English country mansion Thursday morning, the result of a faulty lamp, the fire service said.

Neither the couple nor their children, Amy, Jack and Kelly, were at the house in Jordans, 26 miles west of London, when the fire occurred, a family spokesman said. Paramedics treated a member of the household staff for smoke inhalation.

Kelly Osbourne, 22, had left shortly before the fire broke out.

The Buckinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service responded after the family's alarm system alerted them, spokesman Fraser Pearson said.

"We were able to prevent the fire from spreading," Pearson said. "It was relatively small."

The blaze caused minor fire and smoke damage to the entrance hallway of the mansion.

Pearson said the fire service plans to try to meet with the Osbournes to advise them on fire safety, Pearson said.

Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne had to flee the mansion last year when a fire broke out in their living room. In 2004, Ozzy Osbourne, who earned fame as a heavy metal rocker in the 1970s, unsuccessfully tackled a thief as he raided the house and stole a large amount of jewelry.

And in December 2003, Ozzy Osbourne broke his collarbone, several ribs and a neck vertebra in an all-terrain vehicle accident on the grounds of the estate.

Keira admits filming has hit her love life

by lawsonjeff @ 2006-07-07 - 09:42:25

Is Pirates star Keira Knightley about to make her lover Rupert Friend walk the plank?

We only ask because the couple, who have been together for six months, both admit that her heavy workload is scuppering their romance.

They barely spent any time together at the star-studded aftershow party for Pirates Of The Caribbean 2: Dead Man's Chest at East London's Billingsgate Market on Monday.

As 21-year-old Keira cosied up to co-star Orlando Bloom, knocking back Cottons Reggae rum punches, Rupert was moaning that she hardly spends any time with him these days.

Keira confessed: "I know I've been workaholic and I don't have time for much. I want to spend more time with my friends and family."

She added that she "definitely" had no plans to get married just yet. And when asked if she was going to take more time off to spend with Rupert, she replied: "I'm going to take time off because of myself mainly, not because of him. Let's see how things go there. I'm working on two new movies, that's what I'm concerned about now."

Not that Pride And Prejudice actor Rupert would call what she does "work". When we asked about Keira's performance in Pirates, he grunted: "It must have been a hard job kissing Johnny Depp and Orlando Bloom. I'm sure she hated every minute of it!" Then he moaned to us: "She hardly ever comes home to me."

His mood can't have been helped by Keira - who looked stunning in a barely-there gold Gucci dress - declaring earlier on the red carpet that she "couldn't possibly choose who is the better kisser between Johnny and Orlando, they were both fab".

Mischa Reddy To Rock

by lawsonjeff @ 2006-07-07 - 02:53:36

Mishca Barton showed off her perfect pins when she went to the Christian Dior haute couture winter fashion show in Paris.

The 20-year-old actress looked danity and demure in her foxy red frock and kinky ankle boots and spent time locked in deep discussions with top clothes designers.

One very welcome sight at the bash was smiling, short-haired Kylie Minogue.

Jade's A Good Reader

by lawsonjeff @ 2006-07-07 - 02:50:01

Jade Goody is the shock new face of a campaign to promote reading.

The dippy Essex girl, 25, has been signed up to encourage Brits to use libraries, despite saying that books confuse her.

At a signing of her autobiography earlier this year the celeb said: "I probably wouldn't have been able to read a book when I was 12."

The mum of two also admitted she forgets how to spell her own name.

But none of this put off the Government backed campaign. Jade was a guest speaker at a library in Kent this week.
