Desperate Housewives Stars To Snub Emmy Awards

by lawsonjeff @ 2006-07-19 - 11:17:12

Four Desperate Housewives stars - Teri Hatcher, Eva Longoria, Marcia Cross and Nicollette Sheridan - are reportedly refusing to attend the Emmy ceremony next month , because they weren't nominated for any awards. The show was nominated for 15 Emmys in 2005, but received only one acting nomination this year - for Alfre Woodard as Best Supporting Actress In A Comedy. A source close to the actresses tells the Los Angeles Times, "None of them are going. Felicity Huffman may go as a presenter because she won the lead actress Emmy last year and they usually have last year's winner present this year's award. But the rest of them are definitely not going. If you're not nominated, you really don't have a reason to go. It's a lot of prep work to get in shape, all made-up, pick gowns and dressed up to these things. It's exhausting. And if you're not up for an award and it's just going to be embarrassing why go?"

Little Britain stars sign £6m deal

by lawsonjeff @ 2006-07-19 - 09:53:36

Matt Lucas and David Walliams have signed exclusive deals with the BBC for the next three years.

The contract, known as a "golden-handcuffs" deal in the industry, is extremely rare, and limits the Little Britain stars to making programmes for the corporation only during its tenure.

As well as two Christmas specials of the comedy, the pair are also working on a different sketch show, which will air on Saturday nights from autumn 2007.

The deal is reported to be worth around £3 million pounds each.

Westlife go on a stately safari

by lawsonjeff @ 2006-07-19 - 09:26:28

WESTLIFE chose an unlikely venue to spend a day relaxing before their sell-out concert at the Summer Pops.

Instead of visiting the Albert Dock's bars or enjoying a shopping trip on Mathew Street, they spent the day with an earl at his stately home.

The Irish boy band lunched with the Earl of Derby at Knowsley Hall before getting a tour of his safari park.

The four-piece band arrived at the hall in time for a buffet lunch with the earl.

They then went swimming in Knowsley Hall's pool, and relaxed on the lawns, touring the grounds and playing Frisbee.

In the afternoon, Knowsley Safari Park manager David Ross gave them a VIP tour in his car, where they saw the 120-strong troupe of baboons and the rest of the park's animals.

The group left around 5pm to begin preparation for their show.

Allen Displeased With London Heatwave

by lawsonjeff @ 2006-07-19 - 09:12:36

Veteran director WOODY ALLEN is unhappy with the current heatwave in London, because the hot weather is hindering his attempts to get the right look for his latest movie.

Allen is in the British capital filming his next as-yet-untitled film starring EWAN McGREGOR and COLIN FARRELL.

McGregor says, "Woody is enjoying being here. But there's one problem - he really likes the light flat, so we're currently nobbling him with all this sunshine! "As a result, we've had to adjust the filming schedule."

Farrell's vices

by lawsonjeff @ 2006-07-19 - 08:38:59

IT'S a little after 9am on a recent Sunday in Los Angeles. Too early for most, especially for a weekend.

Definitely, most would think, it was too early for Colin Farrell, the Irish hellraiser whose partying ways with booze and women have made great tabloid fodder the past few years.

But, Farrell, even at this early hour is looking remarkably fresh.

The actor is on time for one of his first media appearances since his publicist, amidst various wild reports, announced last December Farrell had "checked himself into a treatment centre for exhaustion and a dependency to prescription medication which was prescribed to him for a back injury".

Farrell has agreed to sit before about 60 journalists in a small theatre in the Universal Studios backlot to promote his new action film, Miami Vice, but he is not facing the media alone.

Joining him on stage for the hour long news conference was Miami Vice director, Michael Mann, and co-stars, Jamie Foxx, Naomie Harris and Chinese beauty, Gong Li.

It took about 20 minutes for the inevitable question to come.

"Did rehab change me?" Farrell, replying to the question, said.

"Not really.

"It gave me some time to step back and have a look at the journey that I've been on for the last five or six years.

"... Basically it was just kind of an environment that allowed me to have a third eye perspective on what I was too close to have a look at before.

"With that in mind, it was a good time for me to have a look."

Then came a follow-up question.

"Did I enjoy rehab? Not really," Farrell, 31, continued.

"Do I enjoy sober living? Life is life.

"It comes good and bad and ups and downs, pros and cons.

"It's a far too loaded question for me to get into right now."

Farrell has not given up all of his vices, with the star lighting up two cigarettes during the news conference and dropping a few four letter expletives.

It was after shooting finished on Miami Vice that Farrell entered rehab. The film was shot in the Dominican Republic, Paraguay and Uruguay and the nightclub capital of the US, Miami.

Miami was a city designed for pre rehab Farrell.

"There is a sense of danger," Farrell recalled.

"There's a lot of activity during the day and a lot of activity at night. Usually, if I wasn't working I was asleep during the day.

"At night when the sun goes down and the music starts coming up and the volume comes up and the activity begins on the streets, it has that sense of danger to it.

"... I had a blast there.

"Would I live there? No, f... it."

In Miami Vice, Farrell plays the role of undercover detective Sonny Crockett, made famous by the equally hard-living, drinking and smoking actor, Don Johnson, in the TV series two decades ago.

Foxx plays Crockett's partner, Ricardo Tubbs.

While the film involves Colombian drug lords and high-speed boats and cars that made Miami Vice one of the great TV shows of the 1980s, with Mann (Collateral, The Insider, Heat and Manhunt) directing, the movie is a lot darker.

Farrell's Crockett does not have a pet alligator, pastel T-shirts are out and socks are worn with his designer suits.

Farrell also wears a handlebar moustache that began as a joke before filming began, but ended up in the movie.

"I had a beard and I was just messing around," Farrell explained.

"I then put on this hideous handlebar moustache. I thought it looked pretty cool and I showed it to Michael.

"He thought it was hideous as well.

"Then we did a wardrobe fitting and I was wearing some of the suits in the wardrobe fitting and they were taking some pictures as a reference to show to Michael and he liked the look of it.

"He said, 'Actually it might work'.

"We kind of just went with it."

Johnson, however, was not so happy about Farrell resurrecting Crockett. When Farrell signed on to do the project he thought he would do the polite thing and call Johnson.

"I put a call into Don Johnson and he never returned my phone call," Farrell said.

"But Jamie met him at a restaurant in Los Angeles."

Foxx said he saw Johnson dining at the West Hollywood eatery and star hangout, Koi, and thought he would say hello.

Johnson's reaction was not very welcoming.

Foxx said Johnson told him: 'You tell Colin Farrell when he's done with my jock strap to give it back'.

Farrell found the exchange quite amusing.

"I never got the jockstrap," Farrell smiled.

by lawsonjeff @ 2006-07-19 - 08:12:21

Justin Timberlake has admitted there are down-sides to being famous - he doesn't get chatted up anymore. He has complained that women genuinely don't come up to him like they used to, and he misses the chase.

"I don't get chatted up now, I just get grabbed and groped - that's uncomfortable but arousing," he said.

Paris Hilton: "I Have No Celebrity Feuds"

by lawsonjeff @ 2006-07-19 - 08:03:39

Paris Hilton has slammed her media persona as a feuding socialite, insisting there's no one she'd start a quarrel with.

The blonde hotel heiress has been dogged by reports of celebrity bust-ups, most recently with Nicole Richie and Lindsay Lohan.

But Hilton insists she's merely being manipulated by others to generate cheap publicity to kick start their own careers.

She says, "You know how shy I am... Well, non-confrontational. Certain girls just use me to get media attention because a feud with Paris Hilton always gets press."

When grilled about her supposed fight with Lohan over ex-boyfriend Stavros Niarchos, Hilton fumes, "That was crap. She's never even hung out with Stavros. He thinks she's pathetic."

Sean Lennon's "Friendly Fire" out Sept 26

by lawsonjeff @ 2006-07-19 - 07:49:02

Eight years after Into the Sun, Sean Lennon is not heading into the sunset.

Instead, the son of Beatles legend John Lennon has announced that his second solo album, Friendly Fire, is due out Sept. 26 on Capitol Records

There was a long period after the first album [which was released in 1998] where I felt disillusioned with the machinery of the industry," Lennon said in a statement. "It's not that I stopped recording, playing and performing. I did all of those things, just more discreetly."

The 30-year-old musician kept busy collaborating on projects with Ben Lee, Thurston Moore, Ryan Adams and his mother, Yoko Ono, among others, and released an EP compilation of outtakes and remixes from Into the Sun called Half Horse, Half Musician.

"Friendly Fire is an experiment to see what it might be like to do music more publicly again," Lennon said.

And more public it will be, considering which friends were on board to give him a hand.

Lennon has made a companion short film about love and its limitations to accompany each of Friendly Fire's 10 tracks, featuring appearances from pals like Lindsay Lohan, Bijou Philips, Asia Argento, Carrie Fisher, Devon Aoki and Jordana Brewster.

Pretty attractive ladies, you might say.

Lennon plays various characters, as well, including a valiant swordsman and a skate-rental shop employee. A trailer is available for viewing on the singer's website.

"Music is invisible," Lennon said. "I spend a lot of time in the studio with my eyes closed. This, thankfully, was not the case with the film."

Also contributing to the eyes-wide-shut experience are Philips, Jon Brion, session drummer Matt Chamberlain, Cibo Matto's Yuka Honda and Paul Simon's son, Harper.

almost FREE KATIE ?

by lawsonjeff @ 2006-07-19 - 07:42:35

Might there be trouble in TomKatland? according to reports Katie Holmes staged a revolt and stormed out of their home in Beverly Hills yesterday after she was ordered to hire two Scientology-trained nannies by her master Tom Cruise.

'And some other weird things: she hasn't been seen with her usual assistant (aka Scientology Sea Org) for weeks and for the last week she was in Telluride (when we were keeping an eye on her), we caught not even a glimpse of Tom. Yeah, he was in Chicago over the weekend, but where was he before that and where is he now? Doesn't he maybe feel like hanging out with his wife and baby sometimes?'

Has Katie finally awaken from the Scientology haze she's been under for the last year? Is she seeking retail therapy as a means of escape? Stay tuned....
