Elton John wants to make hip-hop album

by lawsonjeff @ 2006-08-29 - 06:51:28

Elton John tells Rolling Stone magazine that he wants to record a hip-hop album with Grammy-winning producer Dr. Dre.

"I want to work with Pharrell, Timbaland, Snoop, Kanye, Eminem and just see what happens," John says in the Sept. 7 issue. "It may be a disaster, it could be fantastic, but you don't know until you try."

The 59-year-old says he is a fan of Blackstreet's "No Diggity" and Tupac Shakur's "California Love."

"I want to bring my songs and melodies to hip-hop beats," John says. "I love these beats, but I have no idea how to get them."

John performed Eminem's song "Stan" with the rapper during the 2001 Grammy awards.

John's new album, "The Captain and the Kid," is due in September.

Gene Simmons sends video to Israeli

by lawsonjeff @ 2006-08-29 - 06:44:23

Israeli-born "KISS" rocker Gene Simmons sent a get-well video to an Israeli soldier wounded in Lebanon, calling him a hero the world should be proud of.

"I can't tell you how proud I am of you and how much the world and Israel owe you a debt of gratitude," Simmons told Ron Weinreich, a tank crewman paralyzed from the chest down, in a video broadcast on Saturday on Israel's Channel 2 television.

Channel 2 said the KISS bassist made the video for Weinreich, a fan of the legendary rock group, at the request of Israel's Soldiers' Welfare Association, a fund-raising group.

Weinreich, hospitalized near Tel Aviv, was wounded two weeks ago in fighting against Hizbollah guerrillas.

"From the bottom of my heart, you're a real hero, you're everybody's hero, you're my hero," said Simmons, who recorded the video in the United States and added in Hebrew: "My name is Haim. I was born in Haifa."

Simmons was born Haim Witz in the northern Israeli port city in 1949. He emigrated to the United States at the age of eight with his mother, a survivor of a Nazi concentration camp.

Laryngitis forces John Mayer to cancel

by lawsonjeff @ 2006-08-29 - 06:37:24

Laryngitis forced pop singer John Mayer to back out of a performance Saturday night.

Thousands of fans waited at the gates of the Dodge Music Center before organizers decided co-headliner Sheryl Crow and opening act Mat Kearney could go on without Mayer.

The Grammy-winning singer, who was born in Bridgeport and raised in Fairfield, has hits including Your Body is a Wonderland and Daughters.

"John feels terrible about the sudden cancellation and he will plan to be back in Connecticut soon," according to a press release, which attributed his absence to a "sudden onset" of laryngitis.

Fans who did not cross the entrance gate and have their tickets ripped are entitled to a refund.

Paris is upset

by lawsonjeff @ 2006-08-29 - 06:30:18

Paris Hilton is furious with Cher’s son for claiming that the two had sex — and that then he worried that he caught something from her.

Elijah Blue Allman, Cher’s son by rocker Gregg Allman, went on the Howard Stern show last week and boasted that he had a fling with Hilton. Allman, who is the lead singer and guitarist for the band Deadsy, said that after the encounter, he became so worried that he might have contracted a disease that he went downstairs and scrubbed his private parts with a household cleaner, probably Tilex.

Hilton is “not happy” about Allman’s comments, says a source, even though he described Hilton as a “sweet girl.”

Alman also said he had sex years ago with Hilton’s reality show co-star and former best friend, Nicole Richie, and says they’re now friends.

John Karr: Innocent?

by lawsonjeff @ 2006-08-29 - 06:22:22

The DNA sample taken from suspect John Mark Karr does not match DNA found on JonBenet Ramsey's body and no charges will be filed against the schoolteacher who claimed he was with the child when she died, CNN affiliate KUSA reported.

KUSA, based in Denver, Colorado, quoted two sources in a bulletin on its Web site:

"9NEWS has confirmed from two sources that the DNA sample taken from John Mark Karr is not a match with the foreign DNA found on JonBenet Ramsey's body when she was murdered in 1996. 9NEWS has also learned the Boulder County District Attorney's office will not file charges against Karr in connection with the Ramsey case."

KUSA says other sources also confirm that no charges will be filed against Karr in connection with the Ramsey case by the Boulder County District Attorney's office.

CNN is working to independently confirm the report as Karr awaits his first court appearance in Colorado later Monday afternoon. Karr will appear before Judge Roxanne Bailin at 4:30 p.m. (6:30 p.m. ET).

The Denver station reported that samples of Karr's saliva and hair were taken in Boulder after his arrival Thursday evening. Those samples were tested over the weekend by the Denver Police Department's crime lab.

The Colorado television station says those tests ruled out Karr's DNA is as the foreign DNA left on JonBenet's body when she was slain in December 1996.

JonBenet was covered in a blanket when her body was found. Foreign hair fibers were found on that blanket and they did not match any of the Ramsey family or approximately 100 people that were tested.

Karr still faces charges of child pornography in California.

Earlier Monday, Karr's defense team requested that prosecutors hand over DNA evidence in the Ramsey case.

Public disclosure of any DNA evidence was specifically barred by a gag order issued Friday. The order applies to all attorneys and law enforcement officials involved in the case.

The 41-year-old suspect is being held in Boulder County Jail on suspicion of first-degree murder, first- and second-degree kidnapping, and sexual assault. No formal charges have been filed yet by Boulder prosecutors.

Documents list Karr's birthplace as Conyers, Georgia, and his occupation as "teacher."

Karr was brought back to the United States from Bangkok, Thailand. He arrived in Colorado Thursday evening from California, where he skipped bail in 2001 after being charged in Sonoma County with five misdemeanor counts of possessing child pornography.

Karr appeared at a brief hearing in Los Angeles and waived extradition to Colorado. (Watch Patsy Ramsey's sister reveal what the family will do if Karr isn't guilty -- 4:11)

He told reporters in Thailand he was with JonBenet the night she died, and that her death was an accident. The child's beaten and strangled body was found December 26, 1996, in the basement of her family's Boulder home.

Autopsy results showed she had suffered a blow to the head and been strangled with a garrote tightened with a paintbrush handle.

After Karr's statements in Thailand, questions have surfaced as to whether the slight, soft-spoken man could have been involved in the grisly killing.

Earlier this year, Michael Tracey, a journalism professor at the University of Colorado, alerted authorities to e-mails he had been receiving from a person now believed to be Karr.

Tracey, who has produced a documentary about the Ramsey case, said there was something in the e-mails "that made me decide I had to try and do something." But he would not say just what prompted him to contact prosecutors.

A law enforcement official told CNN that Karr's e-mails to Tracey were initially innocuous but that the professor contacted authorities when they became "weird." The communications were eventually tracked to Thailand.

Tracey told CNN Thursday he also learned Karr's name five days before the arrest.

Spider-Man' Cast Called Back for Reshoots

by lawsonjeff @ 2006-08-29 - 06:13:03

Tobey Maguire, Kirsten Dunst and James Franco are being called back to the set of Spider-Man 3 for re-shoots, after test audiences complained the movie was lacking in "action." Franco, who plays Spider-man's alter-ego Peter Parker's troubled friend Harry Osborn in the superhero movies, has just finished filming comedy drama Camille with Sienna Miller. He tells MTV, "The next thing I'm shooting? Re-shoots on Spider-Man... Probably next month. Director Sam Raimi wants more action." The sequel also features Topher Grace, Bryce Dallas Howard and Oscar nominee Thomas Haden Church in new roles.

Foxy Brown pleads guilty to assault & gets probation

by lawsonjeff @ 2006-08-29 - 06:09:33

Rapper Foxy Brown pleaded guilty on Monday to misdemeanor assault charges stemming from a fight with salon workers over a manicure. The plea deal, which spares her jail time, requires her to serve three years probation and take anger management classes, said Edison Alban, a spokesman for the Manhattan district attorney's office.

Minutes after the plea, Brown, whose real name is Inga Marchand, tried to return to the courtroom and withdraw it, claiming she had been rushed into the decision, Alban said. But the judge told her "the plea stands," the spokesman said.

A telephone call to Brown's attorney was not immediately returned Monday.

Prosecutors said the 26-year-old rapper, who once appeared in court wearing 4-inch hoop earrings and 3-inch stiletto heels, kicked one employee and smacked a second in the face on Aug. 29, 2004, in an argument over payment for a manicure at Bloomie Nails.

Ringo's wife gets kicked by horse

by lawsonjeff @ 2006-08-29 - 06:06:14

Barbara Bach, a former Bond girl and wife of ex-Beatle Ringo Starr, was hospitalized with a broken leg after being kicked by a horse, a hospital official said Monday.

Bach was admitted Sunday to the Royal Surrey Hospital in Guildford, 35 miles southwest of London. She had surgery to repair her fractured right femur, the hospital said.

Bach, who turned 59 on Sunday, married Starr in 1981. The couple appeared together in the 1981 film "Caveman."

She was a Bond girl in 1977's "The Spy Who Loved Me," starring Roger Moore as Agent 007.

Girls Get The Lads Panting

by lawsonjeff @ 2006-08-29 - 05:56:15

Girls Aloud really sizzled in their hot pants at an open air gig. But they almost popped out of their skimpy gear - and had to be taped in to spare their blushes.

The singers flashed the flesh in ultra-sexy outfits as they took the stage at the Pop in the Park in Cheshire. But heavy-duty tape made sure they didn't reveal too much.

The girls - Nadine Coyle, Cheryl Tweedy, Sarah Harding, Nicola Roberts and Kimberly Walsh - even had to be taped into their shoes so they didn't kick them off.

But a bit of sticky stuff couldn't stop the girls looking sensational in shorts. And blonde Sarah showed her cheeky side as she performed in kinky boots and bodysuit.
