Carrey & Diaz pull out of film

by lawsonjeff @ 2006-10-07 - 17:01:11

Jim Carrey and Cameron Diaz have both withdrawn from their upcoming film, A Little Game Of Consequence.

The pair were to reunite for the first time since 1994's The Mask, but have been forced to cancel. The reason cited is creative differences between director Gabriele Muccino and the film's producers.

Muccino has also quit the picture for the same reasons. Filming was due to start in two weeks.

by lawsonjeff @ 2006-10-07 - 16:33:20

The BBC has announced Paul Weller as the latest addition to its Electric Proms festival line-up.

He will headline a day of the mini-festival taking place later this month at the Roundhouse in Camden, London. The singer said he had not played the venue since he was with his first band The Jam.

"I've not played at the Roundhouse since 1977 so it will be quite nice to go back," he commented. "I suppose it reminds me of my youth, when I first started playing in London."

Weller revealed that he expected to be joined by special guests during the October 28 show. He will be supported by the Magic Numbers who intend to play tracks from their upcoming Those The Brokes album.

On October 27, James Brown will play supported by the The Zutons while on October 29 The Fratellis will join headliners The Who.

Spice Girls reunion

by lawsonjeff @ 2006-10-07 - 15:27:11

Britain's Spice Girls are reportedly planning a reunion before Melanie "Scary Spice" Brown walks down the aisle with comic Eddie Murphy.

Brown, also known as "Mel B," has invited Emma "Baby Spice" Bunton, Victoria "Posh Spice" Beckham, Mel "Sporty Spice" Chisholm and Geri "Ginger Spice" Halliwell to a hen party at her mother's home in Leeds, England, The Daily Mail reports.

The date of the reunion is being kept secret, but it is expected to happen when Brown returns home from Los Angeles ahead of her November wedding.

Living in the United States, Brown has had little contact with her former band mates since the group disbanded in 2001, the newspaper said.

"Mel hasn't even had time to see Geri's baby daughter and is really looking forward to it," a source told the Mail. "At the moment she is trying to confirm the right date in everyone's diaries as they are all busy."

Pittsburgh to Sienna: We Hate You Too

by lawsonjeff @ 2006-10-07 - 14:47:04

The Pittsburgh Post Gazette reports that citizens are boycotting actress Sienna Miller for failing to recognize Pittsburgh as the Pennsylvanian nirvana that it obviously is. As we reported yesterday, in an interview in this month’s Rolling Stone, the actress – who’s in town filming the movie The Mysteries of Pittsburgh – has taken to calling the city “Sh-tsburgh.”

"Can you believe this is my life?" complained to Rolling Stone’s Jenny Eliscu, over a plate of garlic-parmesan Buffalo wings at a Pittsburgh hotel bar. "Will you pity me when you're back in your funky New York apartment and I'm still in Pittsburgh? I need to get more glamorous films."

In retaliation, the paper calls the 24-year-old fashionista a “semi-famous actress” and quoted Pittsburgh Mayor Luke Ravenstahl as saying, "I think obviously we have a great town, and I disagree with her comments. She was probably in the more elite facilities in and around the city. I think if she would have interacted with regular Pittsburghers, she would have found differently. She needs to get out with us regular folks."

In an online poll, the newspaper asked whether people still wanted to see the The Mysteries of Pittsburgh in light of Sienna's comments, and 41% of those polled online (translation: the mayor with his finger on the refresh button) said they no longer wanted to see the film.

Through her rep, Leslie Sloane, Miller responded:
"I want to apologize for my comments which seem to have been misconstrued and taken out of context. I was referring to the fact that we are shooting almost all night shoots on this film and none of us have had an opportunity to fully explore the city. What I have seen of it is beautiful. I came once before to visit the Andy Warhol museum whilst researching a film and found both the city and it's inhabitants warm and gracious. My father is from Meadville and is in town to show me round this weekend. I sincerely apologize and hope people realize that conversations can be easily manipulated in print."

Girls Aloud slam Pussycat Dolls & All Saints

by lawsonjeff @ 2006-10-07 - 14:34:54

Girls Aloud say they're sick of the amount of pop bands reforming after years in the wilderness.

Talking to MTV UK News, Cheryl said, "(The new All Saints single) sounds like us - they must have looked at what's working at the minute and thought, 'We'll go that way' which is fair enough. I really like the track but the whole reuniting band thing at the moment is driving me insane."

Nicola added, "It's every band: 5ive, Take That, East 17, All Saints..."

"And those guys that were randomly put together for a TV show, I've never heard of anything like it," chipped in Cheryl, presumable referring to Upper Street! "They're like all old men!"

The Pussycat Dolls don't rate very highly with GA at the moment either.

"I like their music but they've absolutely hammered this album, this is like their 20th single," said Cheryl.

And the girls don't reckon lead singer Nicole will cut it as a solo artist.

"I don’t think she could," said Cheryl. "You’ve got the likes of Beyonce, Christina, Britney. I don't think she stands out as amazing at all."

"She hasn't got that thing that Christina’s got. How are you going to go up against that?" agreed Nicola.

We love a band who aren't afraid to speak their minds..!

Evanescence album headed for #1

by lawsonjeff @ 2006-10-07 - 07:59:54

Evanescence is poised to debut at Number One on the Billboard Top 200 with its new album, The Open Door, according to Hits Daily Double. Early sales tracking predicts that the CD will sell between 350,000 and 400,000 copies in the U.S. in its first week of release. The Open Door came out this past Tuesday (October 3rd) and follows up the band's six-million-selling 2003 major label debut, Fallen.

Singer Amy Lee told us she's not worried about equaling the previous album's sales: "I just haven't ever looked at it that way. Fallen is a great record, but I don't think you can try to match the success of another body of work. I think that's only gonna frustrate you. And if, honestly if what you really care about is record sales and money, there's no way you're gonna make a great piece of art, because then you're just gonna get all confused and make something ingenuine."

The sophomore album from the Killers, Sam's Town, is expected to land right behind Evanescence at Number Two, with sales north of 300,000.
