Truce Between Paris and Nicole

by lawsonjeff @ 2006-10-09 - 15:16:31

The feud between "The Simple Life" co-stars Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie appears to be over.

Paris and Nicole broke bread (or beef) at Dan Tana's Steakhouse in West Hollywood last night. The pair arrived together in Paris' Range Rover and caused a frenzy at the front door not seen since Mikhail Gorbachev and Ronald Reagan met in Geneva in 1985. And after their meal, the newly reunited pair shared a little tender text-messaging time on a bench at the valet stand before zooming off into the night.

The co-stars have been in a very public feud for some time now, some say triggered when Nicole Richie had a party and showed Paris' infamous sex tape to her guests. The spat spilled out onto their show and onto the social scene -- but whispers of a detente between the two celebutantes have been circulating. Still, this is the first time the pair have been seen out together in months. And, as we observed, the two seemed to enjoy each other's company and to be glad to put their feud to rest.

The question now is -- will Paris shake with Shanna Moakler?

Victoria Beckham takes the cover of Australia’s Harper’s Bazaar November 2006 issue. Here are some choice excerpts from the featured Harper’s Bazaar article:

[Tom] Cruise called [David and Victoria Beckham] while visiting Madrid last year and invited them out to dinner. “I was so surprised,” Beckham recalls. ‘My God, I thought, ‘It’s Maverick! Hope he wears his aviator jacket and sunglasses!’.

“I’ve spoken to [Tom Cruise] about Scientology — I’m quite inquisitive — but I don’t know anything about it,” she says honestly. They do what they do and they’re cool.”

“I don’t like anyone watching me buy my knickers and bras. But that’s what the way it is. Would I have met David if I hadn’t been famous? Probably not. Because of our fame, we have a lot of money and it’s enabled me to do what I want in fashion. But do I wish I Could be anonymous? Of course I don’t need to feed my ego that way any more.”

Prison Break’s Wentworth Miller is featured in the latest issue of Entertainment Weekly with Kirsten Dunst on the cover (Oct. 13, 2006, issue #501).

Here’s what EW had to say:

‘’He wanted to do a shot in a tux,'’ says photographer Brian Bowen Smith, who praised the Prison Break star for his unusually laid-back attitude in front of the camera. ‘’It was basically an idea of his and mine together. I thought it would be kind of cool to do it old-school, Hollywood-style. He’s so perfect that you don’t have to do much.'’ After starting the session with Miller’s tuxedo buttoned and the tie knotted, Smith ultimately got him to loosen up. ‘’I said, ‘Just f— it up. Unbutton your shirt, lean back in the chair like you don’t give a f—. Don’t pose, just sit there.”’

Hilton caught with cannabis leaves

Paris Hilton has come under scrutiny after being photographed with a questionable item in her handbag.

The socialite was pictured with a clear bag of brown leaves in her handbag at last week's Milan fashion show.

Hilton's publicist Elliot Mintz has urged the public not to condemn Hilton by reaching their own conclusions. He said: "Things are not always as they appear. It would be unfair to draw any conclusions based solely on these photos."

Barlow expresses concern for Williams

by lawsonjeff @ 2006-10-09 - 07:18:03

Gary Barlow has revealed his concern for Robbie Williams, and hopes his music career does not send him into a spiral of depression.

Williams is suffering in his professional life currently, with latest single 'Rudebox' slammed by most critics. He has also cancelled parts of his 'Close Encounters' tour, blaming exhaustion.

Barlow, who was close to a nervous breakdown after the failure of his solo career, says he would not wish the same fate on his former bandmate.

"Robbie has hurt me more than anyone else has. But as an adult and a father I'd hate to see him go through what I've been through, because I don't know if he'd come out the other end," he said in his autobiography 'My Take'.

"On a musical level, I know how much it keeps him together, doing this and being successful."

Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning
Premiere

Special Screening Date: 10/04/2006
Release Date: 10/05/2006
Time: 9 p.m.
Stars: Diora Baird, Jordana Brewster, Andrew Bryniarski, R. Lee Ermey, Jessica Biel, Taylor Handley, Heather Kafka, Joanna Krupa, Matthew Bomer, L.A. Calkins, Tim De Zarn, Marietta Marich
Runtime: 01:24
MPAA Rating: R
Director: Jonathan Liebesman

The prequel Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning seems all vaguely familiar, but there’s just not enough buzz in the chainsaw this time around.

Story

As we start at the beginning, we see how the hideous mass murderer Leatherface (Andrew Bryniarski) is born, right in a meat-packing warehouse. His grotesquely obese mother is forced to continue working by a sadistic boss even after her water breaks. The boss sees the monstrous child and throws it in a rendering vat where a twisted family finds it and rears it. A few decades later, the Texas town around them has slowly died away, and the baby turns into a giant who enjoys slaughtering, well, lots of things. Then Leatherface’s uncle Hoyt (R. Lee Ermey) becomes the sheriff, who likes the flavor of human flesh after acquiring a taste as a POW in Korea. Soon, Hoyt, Leatherface and the rest of the family began to like it, too, getting motorists to stop along their route. Along come two brothers, Dean (Taylor Handley) and Eric (Matthew Bomer), with their girlfriends Chrissie (Jordana Brewster) and Bailey (Diora Baird). The boys are suppose to be going off to serve in Vietnam, and this is their last hurrah. But Dean hasn't told his brother that he's actually going to run off to Mexico with Bailey because he doesn't want to experience the horrors of war. Little does he know what horror truly is.
Acting

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre franchise has included in the past the likes of Oscar-winning Renee Zellweger and Matthew McConaughey (Return of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre), and The Lord of the Rings’ Viggo Mortensen (Leatherface: Texas Chainsaw Massacre III), so anything can happen to these young actors' careers. Of course, Leatherface is the most important character and Bryniarski returns to the role and plays it well, and not like the sniveling drag queen the character became in later sequels. Other familiar faces from the brilliant 2003 remake of this 1974 Tobe Hooper classic are brought back for this prequel, including Ermey and the grotesque cannibal family: Luda Mae (Marietta Marich), Uncle Monty (Terrence Evans) and the horribly obese Tea Lady (Kathy Lamkin). They are as evil as ever, and the prequel explains why Uncle Monty is a double amputee, why Sheriff Hoyt has no teeth, how Leatherface cuts skin off people and why the family has such a taste for human flesh. The victims are typical in their struggle to survive, but Bomer as a brave soldier is particularly poignant as he desperately fights while becoming a play toy for Leatherface. Brewster (The Fast and the Furious) and Bomer (The O.C.) don't need a horror movie to boost their careers, but they help create victims you really care about.
Direction

Director Jonathan Liebesman pays proper homage to what Hooper created, but perhaps too much. So much of it is familiar that TCM: The Beginning is quite predictable. The characters are a lot more (pardon the pun) fleshed out than in the other films and very likable, but the murders aren't particularly gruesome. And what about the actual chainsaw? The chase through the woods with the crazed hacking killer is the most memorable and chilling moment, but there isn’t any such scene in this prequel. The focus is more on the evil, rather than the torture—i.e. when Luda Mae washes Bailey's face tenderly and sings, ''You want to look good when the company comes.'' Creepy, yes. Blood-curdling grisly? Not so much.

The Departed Premiere

Special Screening Date: 10/04/2006
Release Date: 10/05/2006
Time: 9 p.m.
Stars: Jack Nicholson, Mark Wahlberg, Leonardo DiCaprio, Matt Damon, Emmanuelle Chriqui, Mira Sorvino and Billy Joel

Martin Scorsese’s mob saga “The Departed” debuted as the weekend’s top movie with $27 million, muscling out the horror prequel “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning.”

It was a record opening for Scorsese, whose previous best was $10.3 million with 1991’s “Cape Fear.” Scorsese’s films usually debut in narrower release and gradually roll out to more theaters, but Warner Bros. decided to launch “The Departed” in wide release of 3,017 cinemas.

“I think the cast was the deciding factor and the playability of the movie,” Warner distribution chief Dan Fellman said of the film, which stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Matt Damon and Jack Nicholson in a blood-soaked epic about moles infiltrating the Boston police and a crime gang.

“We had a special film here. We had the cast to drive it that way, and it worked out well,” Fellman said.

New Line Cinema’s “Texas Chainsaw Massacre” prequel, examining the roots of maniac killer Leatherface and his cannibalistic family, pulled in $19.15 million in its first weekend. The movie had a $16 million production budget.

The previous weekend’s top film, Sony’s animated comedy “Open Season,” fell to No. 3 with $16 million, raising its 10-day total to $44.1 million, according to studio estimates Sunday.

The weekend’s other new wide release, Lionsgate’s workplace comedy “Employee of the Month” with Jessica Simpson, Dane Cook and Dax Shepard, debuted in fourth place with $11.8 million.

Estimated ticket sales for Oct. 6-8
1. “The Departed,” $27 million
2. “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning,” $19.15 million
3. “Open Season,” $16 million
4. “Employee of the Month,” $11.8 million
5. “The Guardian,” $9.6 million
6. “Jackass Number Two,” $6.4 million
7. “School for Scoundrels,” $3.4 million
8. “Gridiron Gang,” $2.3 million
9. “Jet Li’s Fearless,” $2.2 million
10. “The Illusionist,” $1.8 million.

Former Spice Girl Geri Halliwell's Nanny Arrested

by lawsonjeff @ 2006-10-09 - 05:14:32

A nanny who looked after former Spice Girl Geri Halliwell's baby Bluebell has been arrested by police investigating an assault on the child. The flame-haired singer, who gave birth to Bluebell in May, phoned police to report her tot was "bruised and bawling" after being babysat by a golf course employee in August.

Halliwell had gone for a walk at the Hampshire, England, club, entrusting Bluebell to a temporary member of staff there. She came back to find Bluebell distressed with bruises on her arm, and she decided to call the police after the nanny refused to explain the marks.

he Metropolitan Police passed details of the alleged assault to their Child Abuse Investigation Unit, who held a woman in connection with the alleged incident on Wednesday.

A police statement yesterday confirms, "A 30-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of actual bodily harm in connection with an assault on a child. She was taken to a central London police station and bailed for return this month."

A source close to Halliwell said, "It is a huge relief to Geri that the nanny faces the British justice system."
