  • Bobby Brown Pays Back Child Support

Bobby Brown has paid up $11,000 in delinquent child support, after being threatened with arrest if he stepped back into Massachusetts.

A family judge had issued an arrest warrant two weeks ago after Brown failed to show up at a hearing over two months' worth of payments he owed to Kim Ward, of Stoughton, the mother of his two teenage children.

Brown's attorney said then he was having a 'very difficult' time as his tumultuous marriage to singer Whitney Houston was coming to an end with her filing for legal separation.

Patrick McDermott, the registrar of probate for the Norfolk Probate and Family Court, said Tuesday both sides have assured him Brown has since made his payments, though no paperwork had been filed with the court.

'I have at least been given the word that Kim Ward is satisfied that payment has been made and she's good to go, for now,' he said.

Brown, a Boston native, has a history of legal troubles with those support payments.

In June 2004, Brown was sentenced to 90 days in prison for missing three months of payments. That sentence was immediately suspended after Brown made back payments totaling about $15,000.

Brown's attorney, Phaedra Parks, did not immediately return a call for comment Tuesday.

McDermott said the arrest warrant would technically remain in effect until the judge holds another status hearing, which had not yet been scheduled. But he said there was no real risk Brown would be arrested.

'Provided he's paid up there's no reason to haul him in here,' he said.

Brown gained fame as a member of New Edition, and in 1988 had a hit solo album, 'Don't Be Cruel.'

  • Lily Allen calls for better girl bands

Lily Allen has called for girl bands to start appealing towards young women.

The Smile singer claims that she can't understand the reluctance of girl groups to challenge fashionable boy bands.

"It's funny because one of the main markets for buying music is 15 to 24-year-old girls. It's really strange there aren't any females directly trying to appear to that age group or talk to them on a lyrical level," Lily is quoted as saying.

"I think they try and make bands with the right amount of hair gel. Make sure the lead singer is quite good looking and the bass player has an air of mystery and Bob's your uncle.

"It is odd there aren't any females doing that, especially not young females. At the same time, I'm not just appealing to that audience."

A source said: "They can't even bear to breathe the same oxygen right now, let alone see each other. After the revelations this week, one would-be guest commented that they would have to hide the cake knife if they were both in the same room."

  • Love Ready to Come Back

Sober for more than a year, Courtney Love is working on a comeback album after a highly publicized struggle with substance abuse.

Love was ordered into a rehab program in August 2005 after tearfully admitting court that she'd used drugs in violation of her probation terms. At that point, she knew it was either rehab or jail. "I had no choice," the former Hole singer, 42, tells Billboard in its new issue. "I was backed up against a wall. I had f–in' nothing."

The previous February, Love was sentenced to three years' probation and anger management counseling after pleading no contest to misdemeanor assault on a woman at the home of her former boyfriend.

"I always thought I'd be that girl that lives with no regrets," Love says. "I have regrets. I've written so many amends letters, I can't even count them. It's still not enough. Drugs make you an a–hole."

Love is working on her new album with veteran music producer and former 4 Non Blondes singer Linda Perry, whom Love had called from rehab. Perry brought Love a new guitar there.

"It wasn't some run-of-the-mill guitar," Love says. "It had a punk sound to it. But my hand-eye coordination was so bad, I didn't even know chords anymore. It was like my fingers were frozen. And I wasn't allowed to make noise (in rehab). So I'd sit there and try to quietly write and struggle."

The final result, she says, is "a very personal album."

  • Stephen Hawking getting a divorce

Renowned astrophysicist and best-selling author Stephen Hawking is getting a divorce, according to media reports Friday.

British newspapers reported he and his wife, Elaine, have lodged divorce papers at Cambridge County Court.

The mathematics professor at the University of Cambridge has done groundbreaking work on black holes and the origins of the universe, making him one of the best-known theoretical physicists of his generation.

The 64-year-old scientist, author of the best seller "A Brief History of Time," is almost completely paralyzed by amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, or Lou Gehrig's disease.

He communicates with the help of a voice synthesizer, which was designed by his wife's previous husband.

  • "Prison Break" Star Turns Slammer

Though he usually revels in the spotlight, Lane Garrison was in no mood to be photographed after crashing his car outside of Hyde nightclub last night.

The former "Prison Break" star, who was recently killed off the show, was approaching a stop light when his Land Rover struck the Infiniti in front of him. The owner of the Infiniti, who watched the collision from the valet stand, ran to his vehicle shouting "Hey stop the car, stop the car, you hit my car!" at Garrison as he bolted towards the Land Rover. A voice from in front of the club was also heard shouting, "Write down his license plate right now in case he drives off!"

Once Garrison noticed the camera, he hid his head in shame, pulling his jacket over his face -- probably not the best move while still driving. Moments later, the actor and the owner of the Infiniti pulled onto a side street and exchanged information.

  • TV Bounty Hunter Grabs a Legal Victory

The Dog remains unleashed - for now. Attorneys for TV reality star Duane "Dog" Chapman on Friday said the Mexican federal court has granted them an order that halts the criminal case against Chapman until further evidence and witness testimony are gathered.

U.S. Marshals arrested Chapman here on Sept. 14 along with his son Leland and another associate after Mexico issued a warrant because of his capture of fugitive convicted rapist Andrew Luster, the Max Factor heir, on June 18, 2003, in Puerto Vallarta. Bounty hunting is considered a crime in Mexico.

Chapman was released on $300,000 bail after spending a night in a federal detention center. He and his crew have been facing extradition to Mexico since then.

At a circus-like news conference Friday, the star of the popular A&E show "Dog the Bounty Hunter" said the "tide is changing a little bit." His side of the story, he said, is finally being told to the court through his lawyer, William Boller, who spent the past month in Mexico.

"If it comes out right, would I do it again? You damn right," Chapman said.

The possible extradition has ignited an uproar among members of Congress and Chapman's fans, who consider him a hero for capturing a rapist and doing a job the government could not. Twenty-nine congressmen have sent a letter to Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice asking her to deny the extradition.

At the press conference, Chapman said Mexico is becoming a safe haven for American fugitives and killers.

"These guys know where to run. Where can we go so the Dog can't catch us?" said Chapman, wearing a powder-blue dress shirt with rolled-up sleeves, black jeans, cowboy boots, a big silver bulldog belt buckle, a Rolex watch and mirrored Oakley sunglasses. He was not wearing an electronic monitoring ankle bracelet that a judge agreed this week to remove.

After the press conference, Chapman, 53, spoke with The Associated Press and reflected on his legal and personal challenges since his arrest.

"I'm too old to be traumatized, but it's right next to that. It's just incredible," he said.

The man who considers himself the best bounty hunter in the world said he still has nightmares about federal marshals banging down his door as well as the night he spent locked up.

"Jails are truly man-made hells," he said.

Chapman believed he was working within Mexican laws by having a local police officer supervising the hunt for Luster. Chapman said also that he left Mexico in 2003 and didn't return for a scheduled court hearing based on the advice of an attorney there.

After he left, Chapman said Friday, he was threatened by the attorney with additional legal problems in Mexico if he didn't wire him "hundreds of thousands of dollars."

Chapman's capture of Luster, who had fled the United States during his trial on charges he raped three women, catapulted the bounty hunter to fame and led to the reality series on A&E, the network's highest-rated series ever. Luster is serving a 124-year prison term.
