by lawsonjeff @ 2006-10-28 - 15:34:28

The new Jackass film is to be the "last hurrah" for the group of extreme stunt performers.

Jackass: Number Two director Jeff Tremaine told reporters at Thursday's Australian premiere that: "This is it for Jackass as far as we're concerned... I'm not going to say never but right now we don't have a plan. This is our last hurrah as far as we know."

Mel Gibson still has appeal

by lawsonjeff @ 2006-10-28 - 15:31:47

The mass public will not ignore Mel Gibson movies according to Disney, despite his highly-publicised misdemeanours this summer.

The Mad Max star's latest film as director - Apocalypto - is due for release several months after he was caught drink driving and made anti-Semitic remarks during his arrest. But Dennis Rice, a spokesman for the Walt Disney Company, told Reuters: "If it's a good movie, people are going to see it... One of the great things about Mel Gibson is that he is a great filmmaker and he has a proven track record."

Previous directorial efforts from Gibson include box-office smashes Braveheart and The Passion of the Christ.

Moore & Willis fear Lohan's influence

by lawsonjeff @ 2006-10-28 - 15:29:24

Lindsay Lohan put the kibosh on a rumor about Rumer last week. Internet chat had it that Demi Moore and Bruce Willis' daughter Rumer Willis was working as Lohan's assistant.

While that wasn't true, Rumer said they are friends -- and that apparently is central to something of an issue in the Moore and Willis households. As is very well known, the actress and her aging action hero ex-hubby maintain a great post-marriage relationship.

Willis even attended Moore's wedding to her young hubby, Ashton Kutcher, for goodness sakes.

Anyway, both Moore and Willis -- supported by Kutcher -- have had heart-to-heart chats with Rumer, discouraging her friendship with Lohan, 20. Even Kutcher -- not much older than Lohan himself -- has told his stepdaughter the "Prairie Home Companion" star is a bad influence on her.

A source close to Willis tells me Rumer's father just had quite the father-daughter conversation with his oldest daughter, now 18.

Apparently, the "chat" was very animated -- and punctuated with more than a few four-letter words.

Though both Moore and Willis had relatively wild reputations when they were younger, "like all parents, they don't want their kids making the same mistakes," my source said.

'The Daily Show' swinging into Ohio

by lawsonjeff @ 2006-10-28 - 15:25:17

Comedian Jon Stewart will make a special preview appearance Saturday as Comedy Central's "The Daily Show" gears up for a week of broadcasts from Ohio.

Stewart said the Saturday event will be at Value City Arena, an appearance added after spaces for the four nights of tapings at Ohio State University's more intimate Roy Bowen Theatre filled up.

The Ohio "Midwest Midterm Midtacular" excursion marks the popular news parody show's fifth trip outside New York in 10 years, but its first to "a random zone" outside a big city on the East or West Coast, Stewart said in an interview with The Associated Press.

"We wanted to go there because Ohio was so crucial last time. They were sort of the focal point, the swing state, if you will," he said. "We want to know what happened to all that loving attention that they were given in 2004, and if they feel lonely."

Asked if he would be laughing at Ohio or with Ohio, Stewart equivocated.

"First of all, I didn't realize Ohio was laughing. I was not aware of that," he said. "We will be laughing with parts of Ohio at other parts of Ohio. But I won't say which ones."

Cleveland Cavaliers star LeBron James — whom Stewart called "for all intents and purposes, the king of Ohio" — will be the featured guest on opening night Monday.

Stewart said many of the big-name politicians the show approached — including U.S. Sens. George Voinovich and Mike DeWine, Gov. Bob Taft and gubernatorial candidates Ted Strickland and Ken Blackwell — declined.

As for Taft, he said, "We had a shot at him for a bit there. Then we realized that his approval ratings actually make Cheney seem likable."

'Prison Break' producer plans third season

by lawsonjeff @ 2006-10-28 - 14:31:12

Prison Break executive producer Paul Scheuring is in the process of planning a third season of the successful American drama, DS can confirm.

Reports previously suggested that the second season, which is now well underway in the US, would be Scheuring's last.

An insider for the show revealed to DS: "Paul's definitely writing a third season and not all the characters will make it to the next instalment."

The producer has vowed that the ongoing storyline will be resolved by the end of the current run, casting doubt as to how a third season would be feasible.

The source went on to explain: "Paul has said that another stint would focus on just one or two of the surviving characters, so expect more gruesome deaths in the coming episodes of the second season."

Prison Break will return to UK screens in January.

Liam Gallagher hits out at Doherty

by lawsonjeff @ 2006-10-28 - 14:15:06

Oasis frontman Liam Gallagher has hit out at Pete Doherty and Keane singer Tom Chaplin, calling them "lightweights".

Gallagher thinks rock stars today could learn from him and brother Noel when it comes to partying.

According to reports he remarked, "None of us have ever been in The Priory like these idiots today. They have one little line...and they're all in rehab.

"That Pete Doherty is cabbaged already. And it's like 'How old are you? Priory at 27 years of age. You idiot.'"

Tom Chaplin has only recently returned to his band after battling with alcohol and cocaine addiction, and Babyshambles singer Pete Doherty continues to fight chronic crack and heroin addiction.

Nicole Richie Seeks Help for Weight Issues

by lawsonjeff @ 2006-10-28 - 14:10:57

Nicole Richie is seeking treatment for what her rep describes as an inability to put on weight.

"Nicole Richie has decided to undergo diagnostic treatment to determine why she's not been putting on any weight," her rep says in a statement. "She is working with a team of doctors and specialists whose focus is nutrition. It is important to Nicole that she achieves this goal in a healthy way as this is not a treatment for an eating disorder."

Richie's thinness has been the subject of much debate – which she addressed in May when she told Vanity Fair magazine, "I know I'm too thin right now. I'm not happy with the way I look right now." She also said at the time that she was consulting with a nutritionist and a doctor, but blamed her weight loss in part on the breakup with her then-fiance, Adam "DJ AM" Goldstein.

"She's tired of everyone saying you don't eat, because she does," a source close to Richie says. "She wants to gain weight. It wasn't anyone saying you have to go do this – it wasn't an intervention. It was her saying I'm tired of people saying this about me, I'm going to go get some tests. It was a personal decision."

Richie, 25, is starring in the fifth season of The Simple Life and will resume filming, as scheduled, in mid-November.

DJ AM & Michelle Trachtenberg Dating

by lawsonjeff @ 2006-10-28 - 14:06:08

While Nicole Richie dances on tables at Hyde with gal pals and party boys, her ex-fiancé, Adam “DJ AM” Goldstein, has found love with former teen queen and actress Michelle Trachtenberg.

The pair started dating only a month ago, but things have gotten serious quickly, says one insider.

“Adam really likes Michelle. She’s down-to-earth and totally different from Nicole. Michelle isn’t into the tabloid thing. She likes to go out, but she doesn’t seem to need the spotlight like Nicole,” the insider says. “Michelle really likes AM, and he thinks she’s something special.”

Black Sabbath members to form new band

by lawsonjeff @ 2006-10-28 - 14:02:49

The Black Sabbath boys are back, as the new band Heaven and Hell. Guitarist Tony Iommi, bassist Geezer Butler, drummer Bill Ward and singer Ronnie James Dio — former members of British metal supergroup Black Sabbath — are forming the band named after their 1980 hit, according to their publicist. They plan to launch an international tour next year.

"The fans have been wanting to see this for years and years. Now was just the time," publicist Maureen O'Connor said Wednesday. Since its formation in 1969, Black Sabbath has undergone numerous member changes and reunions. Dio, who replaced original Sabbath vocalist Ozzy Osbourne as part of the band's early '80s lineup, has been recording new songs with Iommi in England, O'Connor said.

Gwyneth Predicts Oscar for Brad

by lawsonjeff @ 2006-10-28 - 13:59:26

They broke off their engagement in 1997, but there's no bad blood between former lovers Gwyneth Paltrow and Brad Pitt. According to the New York Daily News, the actress checked out her ex's latest effort Babel at a Cinema Society screening Tuesday.

"It's the best performance Brad's ever given," the Oscar-winning actress told told the News, and predicted that Pitt would take home a statue himself. The movie, which centers around a Moroccan boy's tragic mistake, "makes you want to take good care of your children," added the mother to Apple, 2, and Moses, 6 months.

In fact, Page Six reports that the actress skipped the after party at the SoHo Grand saying that she was so moved by the performance, she had to go home, cry and hug her children.

Hong Kong Mariah Carey concert canceled

by lawsonjeff @ 2006-10-28 - 13:56:23

Mariah Carey's weekend concert was canceled Thursday because of poor ticket sales and what promoters said were the pop star's "unreasonable demands."

Carey was to perform Saturday at an outdoor space near Hong Kong's Central financial district. Promoter Concerts Asia said it had only sold 4,000 tickets, despite a "substantial" advertising campaign.

"We have decided to cancel the event effective immediately due to both the poor response of public ticket sales and also due to specific last-minute demands which we find wholly unreasonable and not with the best interests of Hong Kong, us and also the fans," said in a statement.
