Pitt furious at Vanity Fair cover

by lawsonjeff @ 2006-11-02 - 18:46:25

Hollywood actor Brad Pitt is reportedly furious after Vanity Fair printed his photo on the front cover of the magazine without his permission.

The star's lawyers are apparently considering legal action claiming that Pitt had no idea that the photograph of him would wind up on the front of the December issue.

The photograph was taken by artist Robert Wilson and sees Pitt posing in white boxer shorts and socks, holding a gun.

A representative for Pitt remarked, "We are very disappointed that Vanity Fair has chosen to put an unauthorised cover on their magazine. It seriously makes me question their integrity and motives."

However, a statement released by the magazine read: "In a letter dated 5 October 2006 and sent to Pitt...Wilson informed Pitt that a still image from this portrait was going to be featured in the December art issue of Vanity Fair."

A source claims that the star never saw the letter.

Jay-Z in Life Magazine

by lawsonjeff @ 2006-11-02 - 18:43:38

"I listen to the song 'Victory' on Puff's No Way Out album," Jay-Z tells LIFE of his preshow routine. "When Notorious B.I.G. comes in on the first verse, it feels like Rocky to me. When I'm onstage, I'm thinking, Is this going to be the town where they don't know the music? But even in Poland, they knew my lyrics," Jay-Z tells LIFE. "I don't feel like I'm living in a bubble. I still feel like a man of the people," says Jay-Z, in a Mercedes in Paris, where his show sold out. "Give me great food and wine, and I’m good," he says. "I'm a cheap date."

Jay-Z willed his way out of the mean streets of Brooklyn's infamous Marcy Avenue projects to become a megastar, selling 37 million albums worldwide, earning four Grammys, and landing one famous girlfriend, Beyonce Knowles. He became a part owner of the New Jersey Nets basketball team, and CEO and president of the hip-hop hit-maker Def Jam Recordings, where he coached Kanye West to stardom.

After announcing his retirement three years ago, Jay-Z is now preparing for his comeback, doing a whirlwind world tour in support of his ninth album, Kingdom Come, out later this month. LIFE magazine was granted exclusive access during the Paris and Milan gigs. The new issue of LIFE appears in newspapers nationwide Friday, November 3rd.

After winning Best Fight at the Reality Remix "Really Awards," the two ex-"Flavor of Love" ladies were spotted locking lips as New York expressed her love for the woman who once spat in her face on national television.

The pic, snapped by Pumpkin's aunt, is apparently only the first step in the pair's relationship. Sources say the two may be doing more photos together in the future, showing a little more skin for a possible naughty pictorial.

While it's great that they're BFFs and all, our fingers are crossed that another bitch-fest is soon to come.

by lawsonjeff @ 2006-11-02 - 18:26:03

Simon Webbe is turning his attention to film-making.

The former Blue star will take a break from music to create a trilogy of horror movies. He has been writing the films for the past four years, and has finally decided to take the project to the next level.

"The film is going to be a trilogy," he confirms. "I've always been interested in vampire films ever since I was a kid. I remember watching Fright Night and The Lost Boys."

He continued by admitting he is not going to pack the pieces with lewd scenes: "I don't want the sex to be a big part of it. I want the sexiness of the characters to carry the story. A girl with long legs, a big bosom, a mini-skirt and a low-cut top is not leaving much to the imagination - characters who cover their legs and wear tank tops are sexier."

by lawsonjeff @ 2006-11-02 - 18:11:11

"Yes, me and Mariah did have a relationship for about a good six, seven months," said Em. "(But) it didn't work. I wasn't really into what she was into; our personalities collided. She's a diva, and I'm a little more regular, I guess." Em went on to blast Mariah for saying they never had a relationship, calling her words that start with the letters "b" and "c." "I can never deny her talent, but the fact that she denied we ever had something, that's bad."

Tom Cruise Finds Work

by lawsonjeff @ 2006-11-02 - 18:06:37

Tom Cruise and producing partner Paula Wagner have been put in charge of United Artists, a film studio that was formed by Hollywood actors including Charlie Chaplin and Mary Pickford.

Wagner will serve as chief executive of the company, which is owned by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Inc. Cruise will appear in UA films, but also be allowed to star in films from rival studios, MGM announced Thursday.

The development is a major comeback for Cruise and Wagner. They were unceremoniously dumped in August from their 14-year producing deal at Paramount Studios after Sumner Redstone, chairman of Paramount parent company Viacom Inc., blamed Cruise's public antics for hurting the box office performance of "Mission: Impossible III."

Cruise/Wagner Productions said then that it had secured financing from two unidentified hedge funds to back future projects.

MGM said Thursday that Cruise and Wagner have taken an ownership interest in UA, but did not specify financial terms.

The pair will have full control of the production slate, which is expected to be four films a year, MGM said.

Cruise's last appearance in a UA film was in "Rain Man" in 1988, which won four Academy Awards including Best Picture.

United Artists was founded in 1919 by Chaplin, Pickford, Douglas Fairbanks and D.W. Griffith. (Early cowboy star William S. Hart also played a role in its creation.) The studio operated as an artist-centered company for decades, churning out such hits as "Some Like it Hot" and a string of James Bond films, starting with 1962's "Dr. No."

In 1967 the company was sold to Transamerica, which owned it until 1981 when it was bought by MGM. In 1980, the studio released one of the most notorious flops in movie history, "Heaven's Gate."

In 2004, MGM was bought by a consortium that includes Sony Corp., Comcast Corp. and private equity companies Providence Equity Partners Inc., Texas Pacific Group and DLJ Merchant Banking Partners.
