by lawsonjeff @ 2006-12-28 - 16:16:53

Nicole Kidman and husband Keith Urban reunited in Sydney on Wednesday, but that doesn't mean Urban is out of rehab, his rep says.

"Keith is on a leave in Australia to be with his family during the holidays," Urban's publicist, Paul Freundlich, tells the Associated Press. "This is a natural occurrence at this point in his treatment. He will continue with his rehab upon his return."

The couple were photographed outside the Sydney offices of United International Pictures – their first appearance in public together since Urban checked into rehab in October.

Urban flew into Sydney on Tuesday, Australian Associated Press reported.

This visit marks Urban's first time in Australia since he married Kidman in a lavish Sydney wedding in June. The couple, both 39, have been based mainly in Nashville, Tenn.

The two also shared a brief reunion in Los Angeles earlier this month.

'Crash' producer loses Oscars battle

by lawsonjeff @ 2006-12-28 - 16:11:26

A producer on the movie Crash who was not credited when the film won an Oscar, has lost his legal battle with the organisers.

Bob Yari, who managed the financing of the film, sued the Producers Guild of America and the Academy Awards team after missing out on honours when it won best picture in March.

Six people, including Yari, were named as producers in the film credits, but only two - Paul Haggis and Cathy Schulman - were named at the Oscars. Patty Glaser, a solicitor for Yari, said of his client that he "always felt he's right on the merits of the case".

His case has been dismissed by a Superior Court judge in Los Angeles.

Jolie Spends Holiday With Refugees

by lawsonjeff @ 2006-12-27 - 17:07:39

Actress Angelina Jolie spent Christmas Day with refugees in Costa Rica as part of her work as a goodwill ambassador for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, the agency said.

Jolie arrived Monday to visit a group of mostly Colombian refugee children and families and to meet Costa Rican officials, the UNHCR said in a statement.

There are about 11,500 refugees in this Central American country. Most of them fled Colombia because of a conflict between leftist guerrillas, soldiers and paramilitary forces.

"The conflict in Colombia is the greatest humanitarian tragedy in the Western Hemisphere, but it receives very little international attention," the Oscar-winning actress said after she arrived in San Jose. "My Christmas message to Colombian refugees and to the millions of displaced people in Colombia is that the world has not totally forgotten them."

An estimated three million Colombians have been forced from their homes by more than two decades of armed conflict, and most are internally displaced, essentially refugees in their own country.

Another 500,000 have fled to other countries in the region. Together, the UNHCR said they make up the largest single population of concern anywhere in the world.

UNHCR said this was Jolie's second trip to the region since she became a goodwill ambassador for the refugee agency in 2001. It said she went to Ecuador in 2002 and later wrote a personal journal of her meetings with Colombian refugees in that country.

Jennifer Aniston Avoids Ex Vince Vaughn

by lawsonjeff @ 2006-12-27 - 17:04:44

Vince Vaughn and Aniston Friends' pals Courteney Cox-Arquette and husband David Arquette all showed up at the Beverly Hills Hotel over Christmas weekend.

But Aniston was nowhere in sight, according to reports.

Jennifer Aniston, 37, and Vaughn, 36, always kept a low profile as a dating couple, and now that they have apparently broken off their relationship, both appear to be keeping out of sight.

Out of sight, out of mind?

Vaughn had returned from England, where he is filming a comedy "Fred Claus", just before check-in at the same hotel as pals Cox-Arquette.

An eyewitness reportedly told Star Magazine the SUV whisking Vaughn along turn into the valet-parking area of the Beverly Hills Hotel.

"No one saw Vince again at the hotel for the rest of the day," the eyewitness adds.

Perhaps the wily couple are up to their old tricks... no one but the shadow knows.

Silent Hill Movie Sequel In The Works

by lawsonjeff @ 2006-12-27 - 17:02:18

Christopher Gans, French director of Brotherhood of the Wolf and the first Silent Hill film, has been quoted as saying that that writer Roger Avary (Reservoir Dogs, Pulp Fiction) and fantasy author Neil Gaiman (Mirror Mask, Sandman) will be getting together to work on the script for a sequel to this summer's Silent Hill movie. No details on the story as of yet and it is unclear whether Gans will direct the sequel as he is currently working on a movie adaptation of Japanese demon killing game, Onimusha.

Avary and Gaiman sound like an ideal team to work on a Silent Hill script. Gaiman excels in the extraordinary and bizarre, while Avary has a penchant for the bloody and violent, both of which are the main ingredients of the Silent Hill franchise. If Gans ends up signing on to direct, this could be one of those rare instances where the sequel outshines the original.

Bono will be awarded an honorary British knighthood for his services to the music industry and humanitarian work. The U2 frontman will receive the award in a ceremony in Dublin shortly after New Year's Day.
