  • Jolie Spends Holiday With Refugees

Actress Angelina Jolie spent Christmas Day with refugees in Costa Rica as part of her work as a goodwill ambassador for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, the agency said.

Jolie arrived Monday to visit a group of mostly Colombian refugee children and families and to meet Costa Rican officials, the UNHCR said in a statement.

There are about 11,500 refugees in this Central American country. Most of them fled Colombia because of a conflict between leftist guerrillas, soldiers and paramilitary forces.

"The conflict in Colombia is the greatest humanitarian tragedy in the Western Hemisphere, but it receives very little international attention," the Oscar-winning actress said after she arrived in San Jose. "My Christmas message to Colombian refugees and to the millions of displaced people in Colombia is that the world has not totally forgotten them."

An estimated three million Colombians have been forced from their homes by more than two decades of armed conflict, and most are internally displaced, essentially refugees in their own country.

Another 500,000 have fled to other countries in the region. Together, the UNHCR said they make up the largest single population of concern anywhere in the world.

UNHCR said this was Jolie's second trip to the region since she became a goodwill ambassador for the refugee agency in 2001. It said she went to Ecuador in 2002 and later wrote a personal journal of her meetings with Colombian refugees in that country.

  • Silent Hill Movie Sequel In The Works

Christopher Gans, French director of Brotherhood of the Wolf and the first Silent Hill film, has been quoted as saying that that writer Roger Avary (Reservoir Dogs, Pulp Fiction) and fantasy author Neil Gaiman (Mirror Mask, Sandman) will be getting together to work on the script for a sequel to this summer's Silent Hill movie. No details on the story as of yet and it is unclear whether Gans will direct the sequel as he is currently working on a movie adaptation of Japanese demon killing game, Onimusha.

Avary and Gaiman sound like an ideal team to work on a Silent Hill script. Gaiman excels in the extraordinary and bizarre, while Avary has a penchant for the bloody and violent, both of which are the main ingredients of the Silent Hill franchise. If Gans ends up signing on to direct, this could be one of those rare instances where the sequel outshines the original.

  • McCartney claims Mills should get nothing

Sir Paul McCartney has refused to pay a single penny to Heather Mills in their divorce settlement, according to a report.

The former Beatle has apparently claimed that his estranged wife does not deserve to receive any of his fortune because he did not make any money during their four-year marriage. Although Sir Paul toured after marrying Heather, the costs were so high that he apparently made a £2 million loss.

"It's a good tactic for Sir Paul - but also quite a high-risk strategy," solicitor Caitlin Jenkins told the Sunday Mirror. "Only about 10 per cent of contested divorce cases end up going down this route.

"Sir Paul is trying to persuade Heather's team to advise her to come to an agreement - by suggesting she could end up with nothing if the divorce goes to court. In essence, Sir Paul is showing her how bad it could be for her."

"Everyone knows that Kerry is at her wit's end over the behaviour of this person," Clifford explained. "Of course Kerry shouldn't have made these threats and said what she said. But I want to stress that she didn't mean those words. It was a hollow threat."

  • Celebs Who Did Rehab To Avoid Prison

    Boy George
In March 2006, Boy George agreed to enter drug rehab in order to avoid jail time on a cocaine charge.

    Leif Garret
Leif Garrett was as shaky as a leaf when he appeared in a Los Angeles drug court Jan. 20, 2006, and agreed to enter rehab to avoid prison for heroin possession charges.

    Tom Sizemore
Actor Tom Sizemore was ordered into drug treatment rather than prison after pleading guilty in October 2005 to possession of methamphetamine.

    Courtney Love
Courtney Love may have been facing three criminal cases at one time, but the former Hole singer avoided the possibility of prison by cutting a deal and entering 18 months of court-ordered rehab instead.

    Winona Ryder
A jury convicted Winona Ryder in November 2002 of grand theft and felony vandalism for a shoplifting spree in a Beverly Hills Saks Fifth Avenue. But when it came time to mete out a sentence, the judge took into account the prescription pain killers she had on her at the time of her arrest. As part of her sentence, which included community service and a $10,000 fine, the "Edward Scissorhands" actress was ordered to undergo drug and psychological counseling.

    Nicole Richie
Richie was arrested for possession of heroin in 2003. Though she missed one court appearance to tape the first season of the reality show, Richie was sentenced to probation and ordered to complete a drug diversion program.

    Kelsey Grammer

  • Bryan Singer Helming Footballers' Wives

ABC's adaptation of Britain's "Footballers' Wives" scored two touchdowns Monday, snagging a pilot greenlight and a potential big-name director in the form of Bryan Singer (Superman Returns, first two "X-Men" films), reports Variety.

Chris Brancato and Bert Salke are executive producing the new take on "Wives," with Marco Pennette writing and executive producing via Touchstone Television. ABC first ordered a script for the project last summer.

Singer wasn't originally involved in "Wives" but is now loosely attached to direct. A rep for Singer said the director hasn't yet decided which script he'll helm under the terms of his ABC deal.

The new take on "Wives" will be set in the world of pro football rather than soccer but will retain much of the over-the-top spirit of the original. The original was a campy mix of "Dallas" and "Desperate Housewives" revolving around three ordinary women whose lives are transformed by the celebrity and fortune that come with marriage to sports superstars.

  • Joey Fatone: I Wanna Dance

Joey Fatone was pretty good at being 'N Sync with four other guys, but it only takes two to tango.

The former boy bander is apparently ready to give it a try, however, telling a Florida radio station Friday that he'd like to join the next season of Dancing with the Stars, considering "it's kind of popular now."

Fatone finally arrived at that astute observation after turning down three previous requests to take part in the ABC competition series, he told Orlando's Real Radio 104.1 FM

With dreams of becoming the next Drew Lachey dancing in his head, Fatone, who showed that he was pretty light on his feet in videos for the 'N Sync tunes "It's Gonna Be Me," "Bye Bye Bye" and "I Want You Back," said that he "likes doing it because it's challenging.

"But can you imagine me wearing those stupid tuxes?" he said.

Since parting ways with 'N Sync, Fatone has worked out his musical chops in Rent and Little Shop of Horrors on Broadway and appeared in My Big Fat Greek Wedding, The Cooler and Red Riding Hood. He's currently working on an Odd Couple-like "reality sitcom" pairing him and Bass as mismatched roommates.

All ABC has said about the matter is that Dancing's complete season four lineup will be announced at a later date. The next installment of the hit show is scheduled to premiere in March.

So, Fatone joins Duchess of York Sarah Ferguson on the list of maybes.

The original Fergie said last month that she would "quite like to go on," and while ABC told the New York Post that recent reports saying the ex-royal was a sure thing were "fabricated," the network didn't comment on whether Ferguson was on board.

Last week Access Hollywood attempted to crack the Dancing code of silence, as well, speculating on the twinkle-toe status of Melissa Joan Hart, Regis Philbin, Kelly Ripa, Star Jones Reynolds, Leeza Gibbons, soap stars Lorenzo Lamas and Joshua Morrow and former baseball star Jose Canseco.

  • Pink's marriage on rocks

Pink's marriage to motocross star Carey Hart is in trouble, after less than a year.

The couple - who wed on a beach in Costa Rica in January this year - have spent long spells apart because of their work commitments and the distance is said to be putting pressure on their relationship.

A source told the National: "Pink and Carey's marriage is in trouble.

"They're both crazy busy with their separate careers, and it's beginning to take a toll on their relationship.

    "They're hardly ever together."

Pink - real name Alecia Moore - has been busy promoting her album 'I'm Not Dead', while Carey, 31, is a hugely successful motocross champion, runs a tattoo parlour in Las Vegas and is looking to open up another body art shop in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico.

The 27-year-old singer met her husband at the 2001 X Games in Las Vegas and proposed to him during one of his races by holding up a placard reading 'Will you marry me?'

  • 'Hellboy' director could remake 'Tarzan'

Guillermo del Toro, director of Hellboy, is in talks to remake Tarzan.

The filmmaker is negotiating with studio Warner Bros and hopes to refresh the story by looking again at the original work written by Edgar Rice Burroughs.

He commented: "I'd love to create a new version that is still a family movie, but as edgy as I can make it. There are strong themes of survival of a defenceless child left behind in the most hostile environment.

The Mexican was also nominated yesterday for best director at the London Film Critics' Circle awards for his fantasy tale Pan's Labyrinth, which also centres around a young child.

  • The Kooks thank the Arctic Monkeys

The Kooks frontman Luke Pritchard has thanked the Arctic Monkeys for shielding them from public attention.

Despite a relatively slow start to 2006, The Kooks saw huge success with hit singles such as 'Naive' and 'She Moves In Her Own Way', and remained at the top of the album chart for much of the year.

Pritchard believes that the hype surrounding the Arctic Monkeys allowed his band to grow steadily, out of the public eye.

He told NME, "God bless the Arctic Monkeys, because if it wasn't for them we wouldn't have been so shielded. We were so overshadowed by the success (of Whatever People Think I Am, That's What I'm Not) that we crept in behind everybody's back.

"Arctic Monkeys shielded us from getting too much attention."

  • Leona lines up £5 million deal

The X Factor winner will meet BMG North America's Chairman Clive Davis next Thursday, according to the Daily Mirror. A source told the paper: "Leona's X Factor prize is peanuts compared to what Clive is offering. When Clive called Simon Cowell, he was talking £5million. Leona and Simon will fly to meet him."

74-year-old Davis, who founded Arista Records, has propelled many singers to global stardom, including Whitney Houston, Alicia Keys and Dido.

  • Miss USA Birthday Bash Cancelled

The party is over for disgraced Miss USA Tara Conner.

Tonight's birthday bash for the martini-swizzling belle - who turned 21 yesterday - was canceled as she awaits word on whether she'll be dethroned.

Instead of prepping for a chic fete at Caesars Palace club Pure in Las Vegas, Conner returned to New York last night in preparation for this morning's private chat with pageant owner Donald Trump. He'll announce whether she'll be stripped of her title later today.
"Her people canceled for personal reasons this past Saturday," according to Pure spokesman Craig Nyman.

The Kentucky-bred beauty recently tested positive for cocaine and has been spotted boozing in Chelsea clubs, bad-girl behavior that has put her crown in peril.

She may have to hand over her $17,500 Mikimoto pearl-dotted tiara, according to pageant officials, who are still deciding if she can keep it.

On Friday night, Conner crammed her costly crown into her purse while she sipped martinis with a friend at the Algonquin Hotel's Blue Bar on W. 44th St., sources said.

If Trump dumps her from his West Side apartment, she may end up in a Penthouse.

The magazine was trying to reach Conner's agent and manager yesterday about the possibility of doing a photo spread.

"In the case that she was dethroned, there is the possibility that we would offer her a pictorial," said Penthouse spokeswoman Kathleen Berzon. "We all know that it worked out well for Vanessa Williams."
Williams was the first African-American to win the Miss America title, but was forced to resign when nude pictures she had taken before her beauty contest career surfaced in Penthouse. Williams went on to become a singing sensation and Broadway star, and is currently starring in "Ugly Betty."

One agent predicted Conner could "certainly fetch something in the high six figures" for the deal.

Conner has been caught in a sizzling smooch with Miss Teen USA Katie Blair, an 18-year-old who partied with Conner at Chelsea club Ultra on Dec. 8.

The two share a Trump Place pad with Miss Universe Zuleyka Rivera on the upper West Side.

Blair's crown appears to be safe, but her role as a spokeswoman for Mothers Against Drunk Driving may not be.

"We have reached out to the folks at the Miss Teen USA association to try and get more information," said MADD spokeswoman Heidi Castle. "My understanding is they are still looking into it....Obviously, it is something we are very concerned about."

  • Kylie & Dannii perform together in Oz

Kylie Minogue was joined by her sister Dannii on stage in their hometown Melbourne to perform together for the first time in twenty years.

The pair sang Kylie's song 'Kids' on Saturday and Sunday, the final two nights of her Showgirl Tour in Australia.

Kylie reportedly said to the crowd, "You all waited a long time for this to happen, didn't you?"

Backstage, Dannii Minogue told The Sun, "When we were kids, we'd dance around our bedroom singing into hairbrushes, so I guess we've had a lot of rehearsals leading up to this."

She added, "Kylie says in about twenty years we'll get an act together and work the Butlins holiday camp circuit."

  • Australian Model's baby dies by accident

THE family of distraught mum Kerry Lucas fear she may never recover from the shocking accident that took the life of her baby son Leonardo.

Ms Lucas' mother Beverley said her anguished daughter would "never get over" the death of her five-month-old son, who drowned after his pram rolled into the Torrens River in Adelaide on Friday.

"Kerry is just beside herself, absolutely devastated. She keeps going over and over things in her head, asking herself, 'Why didn't I put the brake on?' " Mrs Lucas said.

"She'll never get over this – never."

Yesterday, Ms Lucas, 30, and her husband Wesley Legrand tried to come to terms with the tragic accident that happened when Kerry turned her back on the pram to take a mobile phone call.

As she talked, the five-month old's pram slid down a grassy slope and into the river, where he was found 20 minutes later.

Family and friends gathered at the family's Adelaide home yesterday to offer support to the grief-stricken couple.

Beverley Lucas described her daughter and stockbroker son-in-law as "unbelievable" parents.

"You wouldn't believe how careful they were," she said.

"They were worried about microwaves, they would ask, 'Am I rocking him too hard?' and nobody was allowed to smoke anywhere near him.
"He was such a beautiful little boy. We just can't believe it. This is such a terrible tragedy."

She said her daughter was overwhelmed by grief and unable to speak.
Police described Friday's events as a tragic set of circumstances.

After interviewing Ms Lucas, detectives re-enacted the events five times.

"On each occasion the pusher behaved exactly as she had described," a senior officer said.

"Each time it went into the water there was no splashing sound because the kikuyu grass had grown so thickly into the water's edge.
"We have also ruled out any indications there was a third person involved, any post-natal depression or disharmony – it is just a tragic set of circumstances."

Ms Lucas, a model and triathlete, was jogging on a running track alongside the river on Friday morning when she stopped to answer a call to her mobile phone.

She scribbled a number on her leg – she didn't have any paper – at the same time turning her back on the pram.

When she finished the call and looked up, her child had vanished. Fearing her son had been abducted, witnesses said Ms Lucas was "hysterical" as she ran along a path towards a nearby bridge, helplessly searching for the baby.

"She just screamed, 'Have you seen my baby? My baby's been stolen,' " witness Noel Mobbs said.

Only three days before his death, baby Leonardo had accompanied his mum to an end-of-year function at her Adelaide modelling agency.
Agent Tanya Powell said Kerry had been proudly showing off the "smiley, beautiful little child".

"He was the dearest little boy and this is just the worst thing that can happen to any young couple. We are all in mourning," she said.
Ms Powell, who has known the model since she was 13, said a child had been Kerry's dream for many years.

The couple had tried to conceive for eight months, with Kerry questioning if a battle with chronic fatigue syndrome six years ago had hampered her ability to get pregnant.

"I'm deeply worried about Kerry in particular, how she will cope with this," Ms Powell said.

"This will crush her forever, I just don't know how she's going to get through it.

"It was something she had been waiting to have, a little child, for many years."

So overjoyed were the couple by their new child, they etched Leo's name and birthdate on a bamboo pole in Adelaide's Botanic Gardens soon after he was born in July.

"He's part of the gang now," Ms Lucas said at the time.
The couple had scratched their names into a bamboo tree on their wedding day in November last year.

One of the first people on the scene on Friday, reporter Jessica Adamson, yesterday described the desperate scenes as Ms Lucas searched for her child.

Ms Adamson and three cameramen had raced to the river from their nearby Channel 7 studio after hearing Ms Lucas's screams for help.

She said she did not know what to do when Mr Legrand kept frantically calling Ms Lucas's mobile phone, which Ms Adamson was holding.

"He rang right in the middle of it, knowing something was wrong, but I didn't want to be the one to tell him," she said.

"She had called him 10 minutes earlier to say (Leonardo) was missing."

"She had gone into the river to get him, but she kept slipping back into the river."

Ms Adamson said it was difficult to overcome the feeling of helplessness.

"It was probably one of the worst stories I've had to cover, and I did the tsunami," she said.

"The problem was, we were looking for him in one spot, thinking he had been abducted, but all the time he was hundreds of metres away in the river.

"It's just so so sad. If we'd known he was in the river, we could have got to him a bit earlier."

Mr Mobbs had been cycling when he heard Ms Lucas's frantic shouts.
"She just screamed, 'Have you seen my baby? My baby's been stolen,' " he said.

"My first thought, not that I would say it to her, was, 'God, I hope the pram hasn't gone into the river.' I wish I'd known, maybe if we'd known where to look something could have been done sooner."
Another passerby, who did not want to be identified, was shocked by the news.

"I walk my grandchildren around here all the time," she said. "You always think about these things, but never think it would really happen."

It was not the first time such an incident has occurred along the river.

In 1995 Thai Vu Nguyen was awarded a bravery medal when he dived into the 4m-deep water to find a stroller with two-year-old Anthony Aloisio strapped into it.

Though its brakes were on, it rolled away from the child's father into the Torrens.

A coroner's inquest will be conducted into Friday's tragedy.

  • Muse to support My Chemical Romance

Muse have been confirmed as one of the acts to support My Chemical Romance on their upcoming US tour, according to Gigwise.

American punk rockers Rise Against will also support the band at a number of shows.

My Chemical Romance frontman Gerard Way explained to Billboard how the shows will have the right balance between music and theatre.

He said: "We're going to retain the essence of rock in the show. It's not going to be like seeing (Pink Floyd's) The Wall.

"It's going to bring the music and the band and the record to life. It's going to be theatrical without detracting from the music; it's not going to be surface over substance."

The band are set to return to Europe in the Spring.

  • Cheeky Girl's "love at first sight" for Opik

Cheeky Girl Gabriela Irimia has said it was "love at first sight" when she met Liberal Democrat MP Lembit Opik.

The pop singer spoke about her unlikely relationship with the politician, revealed at the weekend, in an interview on GMTV.

She said her relationship with Opik, who recently broke off his engagement to weathergirl Sian Lloyd, had been platonic until two weeks ago.

The pair first met on a television talent show two months ago and Gabriela now insists she is looking for a long-term relationship with the party's Wales and Northern Ireland spokesman.

"All I can say is it was love at first sight," she explained on morning television. "Our first date was to the Science Museum - very romantic actually. I didn't go to the Science Museum before, so I found it quite interesting to have a first date there."

"It was very platonic at the beginning, we had long chats on the phone but we didn't meet very often."

Lloyd, who was with Opik for six years, has attacked his new relationship. Gabriela responded: "I don't know Sian, I only saw her on the TV, she's a very attractive woman.

"I can understand her situation because everybody who came out of a really long relationship would be hurt but I'm sure she will be happy."

  • Harry Potter Gets Roughed Up!

    harry-potter-order-of-the-phoenix

Daniel Radcliffe (Harry Potter) and Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix director, David Yates, share a brief moment together on the set of the film.

This week’s Newsweek features an article on David Yates and how he feels about working on the 5th installment of the film series.

Here’s an excerpt from the Newsweek interview:

Mention the name of the new “Harry Potter” director and the near-universal response is, “Who?” After creating a $3.5 billion franchise with a string of high-profile filmmakers—Chris Columbus, Alfonso Cuarón and Mike Newell—Warner Bros. hired David Yates to take the reins for “Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix,” which will be released next summer. Yates is unknown here, but he’s been building an impressive résumé in his native Britain. His movie “Sex Traffic,” about women forced into international prostitution, was widely praised.

In 2004 he won a British Directors’ Guild award for the TV series “State of Play,” a political thriller. And his last film, HBO’s “The Girl in the Café,” is a romance set at the G8 economic summit (yes, really), and earned an Emmy this year. “He’s one of the most exciting directors coming out of this country at the moment,” says longtime “Potter” producer David Heyman. Fair enough. But what’s a guy who makes gritty, hyperreal socially conscious films doing in the “Harry Potter” universe? “Well,” Heyman says, “this movie is bit of a revolution.”

“There’s a really interesting principle at the heart of this story,” says Yates, in an exclusive NEWSWEEK interview.

“The ministry is this bureaucratic authoritarian regime trying to impose a fundamental doctrine on this liberal wacky school. The ministry isn’t very good at accepting the beauty of differences. Everything has to fit in a box, and if it doesn’t fit, it must be removed. The wonderful thing this story tells kids is that it’s OK to be different.”

Yates has pushed all the actors, in particular Daniel Radcliffe, who plays Harry, to deepen their performances this time around. “I’ve stretched Dan quite a bit. He’s a very intuitive person, very bright, quite sensitive,” he says. “I’m just helping him wake those things up. You can see his determination and ambition, and he can switch things on a sixpence, so I can’t wait for people to see what he’s achieving.”

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix also stars Imelda Staunton as Dolores, Ralph Fiennes as Lord Voldemort, Emma Watson as Hermione Granger, Michael Gambon as Albus Dumbledore, and Gary Oldmanas Sirius Black.

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix will be out nationwide on July 13, 2007!

The popular impressionist returned home in full make-up after filming for his Channel 4 show overran, to the surprise of his wife Tessa who was hosting a dinner party.

Bremner told Parkinson: "We were filming one night and it sort of went on until eight o’clock, eight thirty and we had a supper party at home. I rang Tessa and said 'Look, I’m going to be very late', 'How late?!' and I was like, 'Well very late' - she said to just get home as soon as you can."

"I just kept the Tony Blair make-up on, got back home, rang the doorbell - because Tony Blair wouldn't have a key - and sort of sat through the dinner party as Tony Blair. It got to the end of the dinner party and I said 'Well I'd better take this off?' and Tessa said 'Oh don’t bother - just come to bed like that!' It was a bizarre experience."

Kaiser Chiefs frontman Ricky Wilson has criticised Girls Aloud for covering one of their songs without permission.

The singer was furious after learning that the girls had performed I Predict A Riot at their last tour, changing the lyric "borrow a pound for a condom" to "borrow a pound for a phone call".

"I don't give a shit if they don't change the words. But they did change the words," Ricky said. "I'm gonna cover a Girls Aloud song and change all their words but make them really filthy. They said 'Borrow a pound for a phone call'. What? It's illegal, Girls Aloud. We're after you."

Ricky's bandmate Nick Hodgson has confirmed that the group gave their permission to Lily Allen to cover the track and were pleased with her version.

"Lily asked our permission for the song," Hodgson explained. "Girls Aloud didn't and then they changed the words. It's embarrassing because people think we have been asked and we haven't been."

"Unfortunately this turned out not to be the case, and I regret to say again the album will not be released by the end of the year.

"This was compounded by an overall sense of a lack of respect by management for the band and crew and each individual's particular expertise that has resulted unfortunately in the end of... my relationship in having a management or sense of band involvement with Merck Mercuriadis."

Leona Lewis has become the first ever female to win ITV1's The X Factor.

The 21-year-old beat Raymond Quinn, 18, to a £1 million recording contract in a live final watched by an estimated 12 million viewers. More than 8 million votes had been cast.

Both acts had been mentored by Simon Cowell, who had earlier expressed concerns that Leona - a long-time bookies favourite - had become "the underdog".

But Cowell, like fellow judges Sharon Osbourne and Louis Walsh, thought that the former receptionist would be able to have global success. "I've worked in America for a long time now and I've been told there will be never singer that can represent Britain on a worldwide stage," he told her. "You have proved them wrong."

After the result was announced, a teary Leona said: "Thankyou so much, everyone for voting for me. You've all made my dream come true."

Cowell added: "I would just like to say I am possibly the most proud person in the world right now."

  • ABC Pulls `Day Break' and Shatner Show

ABC has turned off the lights for "Day Break" and "Show Me the Money." The low-rated series airing back-to-back on Wednesday have been pulled by the network.

The failure of "Day Break," a crime thriller starring Taye Diggs, foiled ABC's plan to effectively fill the slot vacated by "Lost" when it went on hiatus after six episodes.

ABC said Friday that repeats of the comedies "George Lopez" and "According to Jim" will air in the 9 p.m. EST time slot that "Day Break" held only briefly. The show, which debuted Nov. 15, attracted fewer than 4.5 million viewers last week and ranked 99th.

On Jan. 3, the sitcoms "Knights of Prosperity" and "In Case of Emergency" will debut in the 9-10 p.m. EST Wednesday time period. When "Lost" returns Feb. 7 with 16 new episodes it will move to 10 p.m. EST Wednesday.

ABC gave "Lost" an extended break to avoid airing repeats of the densely plotted show and provoking fan irritation.

"Show Me the Money," hosted by William Shatner, will be replaced in the short term by sitcom reruns, ABC said. The network had hoped to duplicate the success of NBC's "Deal or No Deal" but the shrinking audience for Shatner's show had dropped to 7.1 million last week.

"Deal or No Deal," in comparison, attracted more than 17 million viewers the same week.

Viewers will be able to follow "Day Break" online at ABC.com, at least for now. Thirteen episodes of the show were produced but an ABC spokeswoman wasn't sure if all remaining episodes would be available at the web site.

ABC is owned by The Walt Disney Co. NBC is owned by General Electric Co.

  • Prince William graduates from Sandhurst

Britain's Prince William, eager to draw a line under a decade of conspiracy theories about the death of his mother Princess Diana, graduated as an army officer on Friday to launch his military career.

The second in line to the throne passed out at the elite Sandhurst military academy before his grandmother, Queen Elizabeth, in a ceremony famed for its pomp and circumstance.

"This is a milestone day ... which will stay forever in your minds," the 80-year-old monarch told the cadets.

Among those watching was Prince William's long-time girlfriend Kate Middleton, fuelling tabloid speculation about the 24-year-old future king's possible marriage plans.

It was the first time that Ms Middleton, sporting a bright scarlet winter coat, had appeared at such a high-profile event attended by members of the House of Windsor.

Prince William took to the parade ground the day after a British police inquiry ruled that his mother, Princess Diana, was not the victim of a murder plot when she and her lover were killed in a high-speed car crash in Paris in 1997.

Princess Diana's death triggered a string of conspiracy theories that British spies or even her ex-husband, heir-to-the-throne Prince Charles, had plotted the accident because her relationship with Dodi al Fayed was embarrassing the royal household.

Prince William and his younger brother Prince Harry said in a statement that they "trust these conclusive findings will end speculation surrounding the death of their mother".

Prince William is following in PrinceHarry's footsteps - the younger prince won his spurs as an army officer in April.

Prince William is joining the Household Cavalry's Blues and Royals Regiment, as Prince Harry did.

Now formally known as 2nd Lieutenant William Wales, he will train to be a troop commander in an armoured reconnaissance unit although, as a future monarch, he is unlikely to see front line action.

After a year in the army, he then will spend time in the Royal Air Force and Royal Navy on "familiarisation attachments".

Britain's royal family has a long tradition of serving in the armed forces. William's uncle, Prince Andrew, was a helicopter pilot in the 1982 Falklands War against Argentina.

  • Former Westlife Singer Takes Time Out With Delta & Kids

It was easy to understand why Irish star Brian McFadden was smiling as he enjoyed some quality time with his three favourite girls this week. The former Westlife singer was photographed with his partner Delta Goodrem and his two daughters, Molly and Lilly Sue, as he paid a visit to a children's hospital in his hometown of Dublin.

The singer and his Aussie love went along to open a new intensive care unit at the facility. And the outing proved to be just what the doctor ordered, as the girls enjoyed a bit of festive fun by giving a model Santa Claus the once over with a stethoscope.

Ireland is currently enjoying unusually bright weather for this time of year, but the family can look forward to experiencing even warmer climes in the not-too-distant future. Five-year-old Molly and three-year-old Lilly Sue will no doubt get the chance to visit Australia sometime soon, as their famous dad is planning to take up residence there in the New Year.

Brian and Delta, who currently spend most of their time in London and New York, have decided to up sticks and head for Sydney. • Inside Tom Cruise & Katie Holmes's Post-Wedding Party

Back from their Maldives honeymoon, Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes held a post-wedding bash Saturday night at the Los Angeles home of Cruise's producing partner, Paula Wagner, on Saturday.

But the first order of the day was a trip to Cruise's daughter Bella's soccer game, where Cruise's sister Cass, mom Mary and Holmes's parents – all in town for the party – laughed and kicked the ball around at half-time (Mary even showed off some fancy footwork).

In the evening, it was off to Wagner's home, although Holmes's family stopped for appetizers at the Beverly Hills Hotel's Polo Lounge on their way.

At the party, they joined 230 guests including Jennifer Lopez, Marc Anthony, Brooke Shields, Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith – all of whom made it to the couple's Italian wedding – as well as Steven Spielberg, Jerry Bruckheimer, Orlando Bloom, Dakota Fanning and Cruise's pre-Holmes girlfriend, Penelope Cruz.

Said one guest, "Tom seemed really proud, parading Katie around his guests." Any tension with his ex? No way! "There was so much love in the air that it seemed like a family reunion."

The bash, organized by event producer Travis Jackson of Ikus & Co. and event planner Damon Pearse, took place under three backyard tents; the tables featured centerpieces of cream roses, amaryllis and peonies in smoke-mirrored glass boxes and French linen napkins custom-dyed chocolate brown.

Dinner, from Salt of the Earth catering, was mashed potatoes, short ribs, a lavish caviar bar with pink ice and imported coral and a dessert bar that included strawberry aperitifs and chocolate cigars.

Cruise, in a dark suit, and Katie Holmes, in a pale pink dress, entertained their guests as a jazz trio performed until the party ended at 1 a.m.

"It was an intimate, joyful celebration," says a source.

As Fanning, Cruise's costar in last year's Spielberg-directed War of the Worlds, said Sunday at the premiere of her movie Charlotte's Web, "They were really happy. It was a fun party, it was great."

  • Ant's cousin is a prostitute

Ant McPartlin's cousin is working as a prostitute, despite his pleas for her to stop for her safety, a report has claimed.

Michelle Rushfirth claimed she is still close to the I'm A Celebrity host but other family sources told The People otherwise.

"At the end of the day it's my life and has got nothing to do with him," Rushfirth told the paper. "Ant can't tell me what to do.

"He doesn't like me doing my work and said I've got to stop for my own safety as there are a lot of girls out there being killed. He doesn't want to see his cousin ending up in the gutter."

However, a spokesman for McPartlin said: "Ant hasn't spoken to Michelle for 20 years. He had no idea she was working as a prostitute."

Another source added: "Ant was stunned to learn about Michelle's life. He is obviously not happy that she's been saying all these things about him.

"But family is family at the end of the day and he is very concerned for her welfare because he knows that she's vulnerable. Michelle is in a murky business and he wouldn't want her to come to harm."

Wesley Snipes posted $1 million in bail on Saturday to secure his freedom until his forthcoming trial on several tax evasion charges.

"I look forward to clearing my name and resolving this issue post-haste," said Snipes after attending a federal courthouse in Florida. The actor had flown into the country on a private jet from Namibia, where he has been making a new movie on location.

Reports had been circulating in the media that Snipes had earlier gone to Namibia to avoid the charges, but his attorney Billy Martin explained the situation: "Mr. Snipes left America to begin filming Gallowwalker long before this indictment was returned. We want to make it clear that he did not avoid returning to the United States. He's always been ready to return and he did not flee."

  • Nicole Said She Smoked Pot & Took Vicodin

Nicole Richie, arrested by the California Highway Patrol early Monday on suspicion of driving under the influence, admitted to officers that she had smoked marijuana and consumed the painkiller Vicodin, Altadena CHP Officer Todd Workman reveals.

Richie was arrested after CHP officers responded at 12:31 a.m. Monday to two 911 callers who reported seeing a 2005 black Mercedes SUV going the wrong way on the 134 Highway, says Workman.

The Simple Life star, 25, was alone and talking on her cell phone when officers approached her car. "She told (them) she was lost, and had been following a friend," Workman says.

Richie was put through a series of field sobriety tests, which she failed. "She was not given a Breathalyzer because the officers didn't believe she was under the influence of an alcoholic beverage," Workman says.

Workman also says it was unclear how far Richie traveled the wrong way on the freeway, "but we don't think it was more than a mile or two."

On Ray, Louis added: "He has the likeability factor, the mums are voting for him, but I don't think he'll actually sell records. He'll always work, but I think he's more likely to be in musicals.

"Vocally, I had to completely hold back, I had to whisper things."

The 25-year-old star insisted on doing her own hair and makeup for the audition to make sure she looked the part but says she was still the most nervous she has ever been.

Beyonce said: "I was terrified, which worked out great because I was supposed to be 16 and I was nervous and I'd never done a talent show, so it helped."

Asked how he was doing in light of the loss of his devoted companion, who had lived with him for the past 18 years in his Los Angeles home, Clooney, 45, said: "I'm good. I just got home this morning, or this afternoon, so it's strange not having him sitting on the carpet in the house, but, you know… sad, actually.

Recalling his best memory of Max, who was often featured in interviews with Clooney (who referred to him as "Max, the star"), the two-legged star said, "Oh, there are plenty of them. He got me in a lot of trouble that pig, in general, (and) scared the hell out of a lot of delivery people, too."

"I definitely would like kids someday," says Swank. "That's definitely something that I've always thought about as a very, very young girl."

She added, "I just love kids and that would be an important thing to happen for me someday … whenever the time is right."

In the new movie, Swank, 32, plays a schoolteacher whose career interferes with her marriage. Asked how this situation compared to her real-life relationship with Lowe, Swank said "From (my movie character) Erin's point of view … there's like a support that is missing, an enthusiasm that's missing."

She said that such a lack of support "kills you, because this person that is supposed to be in your life, sharing your life, who loves you supposedly more than anyone and is supposed to understand you more than anyone, is trying to bring you down when you already have enough of that out there in the world. … I think that people who are scared don't allow someone else to be fully realized."

  • Cate Blanchett on Brad Pitt

“It was great to have Brad there, to have that buoyancy. Brad’s open and funny, and he makes me laugh. He makes me think about the style of a film in a way I hadn’t thought about it before. He asks questions about the script that I wouldn’t even conceive of asking. He’s a very aesthetic being, and I’m probably quite an emotional being. So for me, selfishly, he brings that out in me.” — Cate Blanchett on working with Brad Pitt on their film Babel

A source told Britain's People newspaper: "The marriage is near rock-bottom. They've been putting on a united front in public but behind closed doors their marriage has come under strain. The publicity surrounding the adoption has created a difficult atmosphere in their home. After a heart-to-heart they decided to seek the help of a marriage guidance specialist."

Guy and Madonna's relationship - which has previously been rocked by the singer's busy work schedule and her fascination with the Kabbalah - reportedly came under a new strain after Guy felt left out from the highly-publicised adoption battle for fourteen-month-old David Banda.

The source added: "Madonna and Guy both dote on little David but it is her attitude that can irritate and upset Guy. She drove the whole adoption process from start to finish and Guy was left trailing in her slipstream just nodding and going along with things."

As well as David, the couple have two other children - six-year-old Rocco and Lourdes, ten, from Madonna's relationship with fitness trainer Carlos Leon.
