Spice Girls to return for Diana gig

by lawsonjeff @ 2006-12-05 - 10:40:49

The Spice Girls will reunite for the Princess Diana memorial concert, according to a report.

All five former members are apparently in discussions over a comeback at the Wembley Stadium gig being organised by Princes William and Harry for July.

"The girls have all been waiting for the right opportunity to come along and this is it," a source told The People. "They agreed they would only do something extra special - so what better than the Diana concert?"

He added that the drive for the idea had come from Victoria Beckham. "Victoria got the ball rolling by getting in touch with the other girls," said the source. "They have discussed it in the past few weeks and all have said 'yes'.

"If everything goes to plan they will headline the gig and sing their most famous hits such as 'Wannabe' and 'Say You'll Be There'."

A source close to the Royal Family said the Princes would be delighted if the plan worked out. "It would be a dream come true for Wills and Harry if it comes off," he said. "They have happy memories of the girls' performances from childhood. They are involved with the plan and very keen for it to happen."

The group will also release a greatest hits album around the time of the gig, according to the paper. They previously considered reforming for Live8 but reports said the idea was blocked by Mel B.

Eddie Murphy and Tracey Edmonds, a film producer and the ex-wife of singer Kenneth "Babyface" Edmonds, are dating, she reveals.

The couple have been seeing each other "for about a month and a half," Edmonds said at the New York premiere of Dreamgirls, which she attended with Murphy on Monday.

When asked if she was happy she smiled and said, "Yes, very happy. We're having fun."

Previously, Murphy had been seeing former Spice Girl, Melanie Brown. A rep for the comedian said, "We do not comment on Mr. Murphy's personal life."

Edmonds split from "Babyface" in October 2005 after 13 years together.

Mary J. Blige Dominates Billboard Awards

by lawsonjeff @ 2006-12-05 - 10:35:45

Even Mary J. Blige was impressed: She won a whopping nine times at Monday's 2006 Billboard Music Awards, including R&B/hip-hop artist of the year, female R&B artist of the year and R&B/hip-hop album of the year (The Breakthrough) and song of the year ("Be Without You"), as well as Hot 100 airplay song of the year.

Sporting white go-go boots and a sparkly mini-dress, the 35-year-old singer – who had rocked the house with her "Enough Crying" and "Take Me As I Am" medley – told reporters backstage at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas: "I've never received this many awards at any time in my career, ever.

"I remember a time when all my fans were crying and sad and going through hell. Now, we're trying to uplift each other and accept ourselves for who we are, even if nobody else does," she said, Billboard reports.

Chris Brown, who calls his music "hip-hop with a swagger," was named new artist of the year, male artist of the year and artist of the year. "I'm 17. That's crazy, it's mind-boggling," said Brown, the Associated Press reports. "My mom, she still keeps me humble. She tells me to take out the trash, ya know, clean my room."

American Idol's Carrie Underwood and Atlanta rapper T.I. each took home five statuettes. T.I. dominated the rap category, winning artist and album of the year for (King).

In both overall and country categories, Underwood took album of the year (her debut effort, Some Hearts) and artist of the year.

Rihanna said after she was named female artist of the year, (she also won female Hot 100 artist of the year and Pop 100 artist of the year): "I really can't feel my legs – this is phenomenal. That was a really tough category." She had competed with Blige and Beyonce.

Nelly Furtado, Kenny Chesney, Three Days Grace and the soundtrack to Disney's High School Musical snared one award each. Stevie Wonder also presented his longtime friend Tony Bennett with the Billboard Century Award.

George Clooney Recalls Beloved Pet Pig

by lawsonjeff @ 2006-12-05 - 10:34:57

A downcast George Clooney's eyes welled up with tears at Monday night's Hollywood premiere of his latest movie, The Good German, when the subject turned to Max, his 300-lb. pet pot-bellied pig who just died.

Asked how he was doing in light of the loss of his devoted companion, who had lived with him for the past 18 years in his Los Angeles home, Clooney, 45, said: "I'm good. I just got home this morning, or this afternoon, so it's strange not having him sitting on the carpet in the house, but, you know… sad, actually.

Recalling his best memory of Max, who was often featured in interviews with Clooney (who referred to him as "Max, the star"), the two-legged star said, "Oh, there are plenty of them. He got me in a lot of trouble that pig, in general, (and) scared the hell out of a lot of delivery people, too."

Clooney – who had informed USA Today that there would be no successor because, "I think Max covered all my pig needs" – was also overheard at the premiere as saying something about cremation.

Hilary Swank Says She Wants Kids

by lawsonjeff @ 2006-12-05 - 10:32:41

She's not married, but she is dating, and the prospects are high for everything – including children, says Hilary Swank.

"I am to the point that I'm so optimistic that most people tag me as naïve," the double Oscar winner said at a press gathering to promote her new movie Fiction Writers.

Though she didn't talk about the new man in her life (she's been seeing her agent, John Campisi), Swank did say that being single is "a big change" after her eight years of marriage to actor Chad Lowe – and revealed that she'd like a family.

"I definitely would like kids someday," says Swank. "That's definitely something that I've always thought about as a very, very young girl."

She added, "I just love kids and that would be an important thing to happen for me someday … whenever the time is right."

In the new movie, Swank, 32, plays a schoolteacher whose career interferes with her marriage. Asked how this situation compared to her real-life relationship with Lowe, Swank said "From (my movie character) Erin's point of view … there's like a support that is missing, an enthusiasm that's missing."

She said that such a lack of support "kills you, because this person that is supposed to be in your life, sharing your life, who loves you supposedly more than anyone and is supposed to understand you more than anyone, is trying to bring you down when you already have enough of that out there in the world. … I think that people who are scared don't allow someone else to be fully realized."

For his part, Lowe has been a subject covered in Swank's interviews before, which hasn't always been happy about. In November he said that he was upset when Swank, talked publicly about his substance-abuse problems, but he'll always love her.

Cate Blanchett on Brad Pitt

by lawsonjeff @ 2006-12-05 - 10:27:41

“It was great to have Brad there, to have that buoyancy. Brad’s open and funny, and he makes me laugh. He makes me think about the style of a film in a way I hadn’t thought about it before. He asks questions about the script that I wouldn’t even conceive of asking. He’s a very aesthetic being, and I’m probably quite an emotional being. So for me, selfishly, he brings that out in me.” — Cate Blanchett on working with Brad Pitt on their film Babel

Madonna seeing marriage counselor

by lawsonjeff @ 2006-12-05 - 10:27:07

Madonna and Guy Ritchie have reportedly been seeing a marriage counsellor in a desperate bid to save their six-year union.

The 'Hung Up' singer and her film director husband have allegedly been seeing top marital therapist Tricia Barnes after their relationship hit "rock bottom", following the couple's controversial adoption of a Malawi baby.

A source told Britain's People newspaper: "The marriage is near rock-bottom. They've been putting on a united front in public but behind closed doors their marriage has come under strain. The publicity surrounding the adoption has created a difficult atmosphere in their home. After a heart-to-heart they decided to seek the help of a marriage guidance specialist."

Guy and Madonna's relationship - which has previously been rocked by the singer's busy work schedule and her fascination with the Kabbalah - reportedly came under a new strain after Guy felt left out from the highly-publicised adoption battle for fourteen-month-old David Banda.

The source added: "Madonna and Guy both dote on little David but it is her attitude that can irritate and upset Guy. She drove the whole adoption process from start to finish and Guy was left trailing in her slipstream just nodding and going along with things."

As well as David, the couple have two other children - six-year-old Rocco and Lourdes, ten, from Madonna's relationship with fitness trainer Carlos Leon.
