Focus Features announced casting is complete on the suspense thriller In Bruges from writer/director Martin McDonagh.

The cast of In Bruges includes Colin Farrell, Brendan Gleeson, Ralph Fiennes, Clémence Poésy, and Jérémie Renier. Gleeson and McDonagh previously worked together on Six Shooter. Filming is expected to begin in February on In Bruges in Bruges, Belgium.

In a press release from Focus Features announcing the casting of In Bruges, Focus CEO James Schamus stated, “Martin has written a screenplay that is both killingly funny and dramatically affecting, and this fine troupe of actors from all over the world will interact marvelously under his direction.

We’re also very grateful for the extensive cooperation and support that Bruges is offering the production.”

Justin Timberlake & Cameron Diaz Break Up

by lawsonjeff @ 2007-01-15 - 08:17:57

After almost four years together, Cameron Diaz and Justin Timberlake have called it quits, the couple said in a statement Thursday.

"It has always been our preference not to comment on the status of our relationship, but, out of respect for the time we've spent together, we feel compelled to do so now, in light of recent speculation and the number of inaccurate stories that are being reported by the media," the pair said. "We have, in fact, ended our romantic relationship, and have done so mutually and as friends, with continued love and respect for one another."

Diaz, 34, and Timberlake, 25, met in April 2003 at the Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards, and by July, Diaz had joined her new beau on the road as he toured with Christina Aguilera.

They seemed at first like an unlikely pair: A former 'N Sync-er, Timberlake previously dated Britney Spears; Diaz had been in relationships with fellow movie stars Matt Dillon and Jared Leto.

And then there was their nine-year age difference. "It's not like this is the first time in the history of human relationships that people were drawn to one another because of who they are, not what age they are," Diaz told W in 2004.

But they surprised skeptics, staying together despite relentless rumors of strife. In July 2004, Timberlake filed a libel suit against the British tabloid News of the World after it claimed he'd cheated with model Lucy Clarkson, and in May 2005, Diaz sued U.K. tab The Sun for suggesting she'd had an affair with Shane Nickerson, the producer of her MTV adventure show Trippin'.

Along with breakup rumors, they faced near constant speculation that they were engaged. In August 2004, Diaz was spotted wearing a gold band on her left ring finger, but her rep denied the couple were altar-bound. Another source said at the time: "Cameron has always said she has no interest in getting married."

That was their story, and they stuck to it. In September 2006, Timberlake told Ellen DeGeneres she could buy a dress for their wedding – then quipped, "The only thing is, you'll have to stay the same size for the next 15 years."

Two months later, Diaz made her own appearance on DeGeneres's show, and told the host of getting married: "I'm a commitment-phobe. Don't want to do it."

Last week, Timberlake kicked off his FutureSex/LoveShow tour. Meanwhile Diaz collected a trophy for favorite leading lady at the People's Choice Awards on Tuesday.

Britney Spears's $40,000 Night in Vegas

by lawsonjeff @ 2007-01-15 - 08:16:02

Britney Spears and Isaac Cohen have taken their hookup to new heights: a Fantasy Tower suite at The Palms in Las Vegas.

Sources reveal the couple stayed in the tower's $40,000-a-night, two-story Hugh Hefner Sky Villa on Saturday, where a Jacuzzi pool, a glass elevator, an 8-ft. rotating bed and a full bar are among the amenities.

"They seem very happy together," says a source who spotted the two, who started dating in the past month. Hotel officials had no comment.

The trip was Spears's first appearance in Las Vegas since hosting a much-talked-about party at Pure nightclub on New Year's Eve – where, her rep said, she fell asleep.

It was a different scene Saturday night. Spears and model-actor Cohen, both 25, danced and smoked cigarettes at 8½, a gay club off the Strip, before leaving after about an hour.

This is the second weekend in a row that the couple have been seen together. On Jan. 6 they hung out on a powerboat off Marina del Rey, outside L.A., and the next night met up at the W Hotel's Whiskey Blue bar in Westwood.

Kristin Cavallari's Hot Spot Birthday Party

by lawsonjeff @ 2007-01-15 - 08:14:00

Kristin Cavallari helped kick off the grand opening of new Hollywood hot spot Sideways Restaurant & Lounge with an event of her own: a belated 20th-birthday celebration.

The dinner with about a dozen friends – including actor Nick Zano (What I Like About You), with whom she spent New Year's Eve in Miami – started around 9:15 p.m. Thursday, the same night Britney Spears and her new beau Isaac Cohen also made an appearance at the new tapas joint.

"This is the first time I've seen my friends [in a while] so I'm having the best time," Cavallari said. "I'm kind of getting over the club scene. I like this better because you can actually talk to someone instead of yelling at them. You can talk, eat food and just hang out with your friends."

Just a week before that would've been impossible. The former Laguna Beach star ushered in her 20s by having her wisdom teeth removed Jan. 4, the day before her actual birthday.

Instead of partying, Cavallari "lied in bed and watched TV, which is actually nice because I haven't done that in awhile," she says, "but the whole wisdom teeth thing was a pain. Ugh. I'm just sort of able to smile again."

Also seeming to put a smile on her face lately has been Zano. The two sat next to each other for most of the night. "Hes a sweet guy," she said. "I'm very happy now. I'm in a happy place."

And she plans on keeping the positive vibe running through 2007. Her new year's resolution? To "stop swearing," Cavallari says. "I've made this resolution, like, five times and it hasn't worked!"

Jennifer Lopez: 'My Life Had Become Uncomfortable'

by lawsonjeff @ 2007-01-15 - 08:12:12

Jennifer Lopez's big clubbing and partying days are over.

Since marrying Marc Anthony and settling down, the actress-singer says she has purposefully decided to lead a quieter life – if not out of the spotlight, at least a little less in it.

"It was a choice," Lopez, 36, said at the annual TV critics conference in Pasadena, Calif. on Thursday. "My life for me had become uncomfortable in the way that it was affecting my personal life and the people in it. So I decided I needed to take a look at that.

"I realized there was a way to pull back from that. You don't go out as much. You choose different places to go."

One place she doesn't go much these days is the dance floor. When asked if she cuts a rug with husband Marc Anthony, she said, "No we don't. Were homebodies. We love music – obviously it's a big part of our lives – but we're not big club people. Not anymore. I've had my days."

Lopez was in town to promote her new MTV series DanceLife, which she executive produced and premieres Jan. 15. The show will follow six young dancers as they compete for their big break.

Stone made co-star bleed in violent scene

by lawsonjeff @ 2007-01-15 - 07:57:09

Sharon Stone made her co-star's nose bleed while filming a violent scene for new movie Alpha Dog.

The actress plays a mother of a murdered teen in the film and decided that her character's aggression had to look realistic when she confronted one of her son's attackers, played by Ben Foster.

"I was trying to figure out how to hit him, because you have to hit a person when you're doing that kind of a scene," she explained. "You can't do those stunt hits because it doesn't really work in a scene like that.

"I was trying to hit him without hurting him but Ben just wouldn't let me because he knew the scene really required this kind of violence and this kind of aggression. It required me to really go for him.

"He forced me to aggress him and he forced me to hit him. He just kept pushing me and pushing me and I just lost it. He made me hit him until it broke my heart. It was so awful and his nose started to bleed."

Brit Awards snub for Robbie's 'Rudebox'

by lawsonjeff @ 2007-01-15 - 07:41:06

Robbie Williams's controversial Rudebox album has been snubbed by Brit Awards bosses.

Although the nominations for this year's awards have not yet been officially announced, insiders claim that Robbie is not up for Best Male, Best British Album or Best Single for the first time in ten years. Instead, he has been nominated in the Best Live Act category.

A source told The Mirror: "A few years ago Robbie not being nominated would have been unthinkable - he had the Midas touch. But that's clearly deserted him and he's going to have a real struggle on his hands to regain his credibility."

Another insider added: "Rudebox has been an unmitigated disaster for Robbie and the record company. We knew things were bad but were hoping for at least one decent nomination from the Brits."

Rudebox was panned by critics and some fans when it was released last year. Robbie's former manager Nigel Martin Smith later forced him to change the lyrics to one song after claiming that they were libellous.

Madonna & Jolie in adoption feud

by lawsonjeff @ 2007-01-15 - 07:36:10

Madonna and Angelina Jolie are feuding publicly over their support for African orphans, it has been reported.

Both stars have apparently attacked the way the other chooses to carry out their good work. Madonna has criticised Jolie's plans to open her own orphanages while she responded with comments about the singer's adoption of a Malawian baby.

The conflict began when Madonna and Guy Ritchie first considered an adoption from the continent. According to the Mail on Sunday Jolie told her to go to orphanages in Ethiopia where she found her own daughter Zahara. The singer decided otherwise and adopted David Banda from Malawi, which has less established procedures, in October.

Breaking her public silence on the matter, Jolie recently told a magazine in France: "Madonna knew the situation in Malawi, where he was born. It is a country where there is no legal framework for adoption."

Now Madonna, reportedly "apoplectic" about the remarks, has hit back with comments about Jolie and Brad Pitt's project to build an orphanage in India.

"I'm not interested in going there like an idiot and going, 'OK, I'm going to build ten orphanages and I'll see you guys later,'" she declared. "I've joined the UN and become an ambassador, visited various countries and just showed up and smiled and looked concerned. But that's not getting to the root of the problem and neither is building orphan care centres."

A friend of Madonna added: "Angelina seems to think she has got a monopoly on being the good Samaritan, but quite frankly criticising Madonna for adopting David is a case of the pot and the kettle."

Brown's kids want home to become museum

by lawsonjeff @ 2007-01-15 - 07:34:34

James Brown's children want to turn his home into a museum and are seeking advice from the people who run Graceland.

The soul singer died on Christmas Day, aged 73, and his family are now hoping to make a lasting shrine for his fans, according to the Sunday Mirror.

They are currently developing ideas for the Memphis mansion and are apparently seeking a meeting with Elvis Presley's family, who oversee the museum at his former home. Graceland is a successful attraction which is visited by around 600,000 people each year.

Debri Opri, the Brown family lawyer, explained: "Mr Brown was a great fan and truly, truly cared about Elvis Presley."

Jack Soden, boss of Elvis Presley Enterprises, said the family were open to the idea. He commented: "We've been happy to give the benefit of what we've learned to the heirs of deceased entertainers."

Cruz sets sights on movie musical

by lawsonjeff @ 2007-01-15 - 07:31:52

Penelope Cruz has admitted that she fancies her hand at trying a musical in the near future.

The actress is known mainly for her drama work, but feels her experience as a dancer when she was younger could be put to better use, and is a big fan of film adaptations of stage musicals.

As well as Chicago and The Phantom Of The Opera, Cruz also has an admiration for Nicole Kidman's work in the field: "My hope someday is to do a musical, like Nicole Kidman in Moulin Rouge! She was so great. I could use all my dancing."
