Helen Mirren and Forest Whitaker have both picked up Screen Actors Guild Awards in Los Angeles, confirming themselves as front-runners for the impending Academy Awards.
Mirren's portrayal of the the Queen and Whitaker's of Idi Amin were recognised as the best lead performances of the year.
Helen Mirren also scooped an award for her role as Elizabeth I in the television series of the same name.
She refused to comment on the possibility of Oscar success, but told the BBC, "It's been the most incredible year for me, ever. That's been amazing at this end of my life"
Whitaker appeared to be very emotional when receiving his award for his role in The Last King of Scotland. He said: "It means a lot to get an award from people that you work with and you're going to work with."
